Chapter 42: rescheduled

"We'll be out soon." Kai said, and Donovan nodded. He glanced at Aiden and offered him a polite smile which wasn't returned before heading out.

"Who is he?" Aiden asked when the door closed shut, tightening his grip on kais waist.

"I told you, he's a friend of Aunt lyn's son."

"He was acting all familiar with you." Kai shrugged and took another bite from the cake in his hand,

"I act familiar with Kevin and Jenny, too. What's the big deal?"

Aiden pouted as he trailed his fingers up Kais shoulders, eventually coming to rest on his neck. He pulled down his turtle neck to get a good look at the love bite. Aiden pressed his lips against the red spot, leaving a soft kiss on the sensitive skin.

"I'm trying to eat." Kai frowned,

"What was that about me being just Aiden?" He questioned and buried his head in the crook of Kais neck.

"What are you talking about?"

"You introduced me as Aiden, just Aiden. You could've just said I'm your lover." Aiden clarified, and Kai sighed,

"You're the heir to a big company, I was only being careful."

"I didn't ask you to be." He muttered and impulsively bit into the tender skin of Kais neck causing him to squeal in pain,

"Ugh, Aiden, stop!" Kai yelled and pushed Aiden away. The cake in his hand slipped from his grasp and fell to the ground, ruined. He placed his hand over his throbbing neck, his gaze filled with fright.

"Ah... sorry, I wasn't thinking." Aiden said and took a cautious step towards kai with an apologetic look, and luckily, kai didn't retreat.

"He's just an acquaintance I met at work. There's no need to be so touchy about it." Kai yelled,

"I know. I'm sorry."

Kai felt his anger dissipate as Aiden gently caressed his cheek and he sighed, giving into the soothing touch.

His gaze shifted to the splattered cake on the floor, and his frown deepened,

"The cake is ruined."

Aiden followed his line of sight to the vanilla cake on the floor. "Oh."

"It's your fault, so clean it up. And meet me outside when you're done." Kai swatted Aidens' hand away and held onto the door knob preparing to leave.

"Also, be nice to Donovan. He did nothing wrong." Kai added, and with that, he left.

"Where's your friend?" Donovan asked when kai came back to the counter.

"He's cleaning up the mess he made." He replied, unintentionally scratching his neck where Aiden had bitten him not too long ago. Donovan's gaze caught the teeth marks, and a small smile played on his lips. How childish, he thought and went back to the prep area to get some drinks on standby.

"Where are aunt and uncle?" Kai questioned. He came to stand beside Donny to watch him carefully handle the expresso machine.

"They stepped out." Donny replied casually. "What's your relationship with Clein Morris' son?" He went on to ask with a blank look that didn't show much interest in the matter.

"We live together." Donovan's hands paused and glanced at the boy standing by his side,

"Really?"

Kai nodded.

"Is there something wrong with that?" They heard Aiden say from behind, and their gazes moved to where he stood.

"There's nothing wrong with it actually, I'm just surprised, that's all." He clarified, his tone neutral.

Kai chimed in, diverting their attention to a different topic before Aiden could act up,

"Wow, you make really nice latte art." He complimented, and Donovan smiled.

"Eren taught me."

"Who's Eren?"

"Ava's brother."

Kai nodded again and leaned closer, studying how he skilfully handled the skewer to create the pattern with the milk on the latte. Before he could start up another conversation, Aiden intervened and pulled kai away from Donny by his collar

"You're too close." He whispered. Showing his discomfort at their close proximity. Kai heaved an exasperated sigh and turned to face him.

"Aiden, stop this." Kai whispered back.

"There's no need to be so wary of me, I have no ill intentions towards Kai." Donovan interrupted with a calm tone and polite smile that seemed to irk the young master.

Aunt Lyn walked in with her husband and couldn't help but notice the tense atmosphere surrounding Aiden and Donovan.

"What's going on?" She questioned, but Donny was quick to shrug the matter off.

"It's nothing, just a little misunderstanding."

Aunt Lyn didn't seem too convinced by this reply but decided not to ponder on it. Instead, she turned her attention to the young master,

"Aiden, there are some people here who want to see you, and they look quite scary." She said. It was Caesar, his deputy.

"I thought I told you I was taking the day off." Aiden frowned when the scarred man came up to him.

"I apologise, sir, but your father asked Mr. Kyosuke to reschedule the meeting to this evening." Caesar explained, the deadpan look never leaving his face.

"Why?"

"He heard you took the day off."

Aiden raked his fingers through his messy

Black hair and gritted his teeth. Damn old man, not even letting him have his peace for just a day despite being in Hong Kong.

"What time?"

"Two hours from now." Aiden sighed.

Caesar's gaze shifted to Donovan, and a polite, professional smile appeared on his face.

"Mr. Donovan, a pleasure. I haven't seen you since the opening of the hotel." He greeted.
