Chapter 2: CHAPTER TWO

They arrived at Chief's house in Lagos that cold evening.

Even in the comfort of Chief's car air conditioner, Michael tried so hard not to sleep throughout the journey so he could see places. He had never travelled that long all his life.

Getting to Chief's house was a deep relief for him though he had mixed feelings.

Chief's wife was comfortably seated in the well-furnished living room watching television.

"Honey, you are welcome," she got up and hugged Chief. Then collected his bag and take them to his room.

In a little while, she came back and joined them in the living room.

"Where are the kids?"

"They are sleeping in their room already."

"Ok. This is Michael, the boy that I spoke to you about," Chief said, introducing Michael to his wife.

"Good evening ma'am."

How are you?

"I'm fine ma'am."

"You are welcome."

"Thank you ma'am."

Chief and his wife continued discussing.

Michael was seated on the sofa with his bag and secretly observing the environment.

"The place is really beautiful," he thought.

Chief stayed in a beautifully furnished three-bedroom apartment.

Chief's wife was a young, vibrant and beautiful lady. She's in her early thirties, Chief is about two decades older than she is. She had two beautiful kids for chief.

Two young boys who are also apprentices and a young girl who is the house help came out to welcome them.

One of the boys helped Michael carry his bag and led him to their room. Others went back to their rooms.

"This is where you will be sleeping," the boy told Michael as he helped him keep his bag. Michael with the two boys will be staying in the same room.

He freshened up and changed his clothes.

They brought him food and he quickly finished it and dozed off afterwards.

When he got up, the two boys were still in the room.

He was surprised.

"Don't you people go out?"

They laughed hysterically.

"This is your place in this house as long as Madam is around," the second boy made him to understand.

"You people stay here from morning to night?

"Not really, but you dare not sit with madam in the parlour."

"Really?"

"Yes."

But why he asked there was no response

They continued discussing. They listed out their daily routine for Michael.

All those routines they listed aren't his problems. He was more concerned about going to the shop because that seemed to be the only time for him to move out and see the beautiful environment of the city.

He looked forward to his first day out of Chief's house.
