Chapter 14: STOLEN LETTER & INVESTIGATION
Prince henry got home feeling anxious of what could be inside that envelop, he opened that envelop which he kept inside his inner pristine robe, Prince Henry stared at the envelope in his hand, his eyes wide. His heart was racing, his breath shallow. He'd been so sure there would be something inside, something important. As he dipped his hand inside it, he found that the envelope was empty. He felt a wave of disappointment wash over him, he stood up from the couch chair suddenly.
Prince Henry was trying to process what was happening, but it was hard to make sense of it all. Could the Emperor really be playing a prank on him? It was a possibility, but something about this whole situation felt off. And the empty envelope he was holding, it seemed too real to be a joke.
"No," he said aloud, shaking his head. "This isn't a prank." He felt a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach.
He nodded his head negatively as he paced to the Emperor office and slammed the door behind him, on his way he saw the Eunuch, and approached him, "His Majesty" as the Eunuch bowed to him, "oh! Good to see you, Where is my father" said Henry "He still busy at his office His Highness" he replied. Henry looked at the Eunuch, trying to keep his face neutral. "How long has he been in there?" he asked, trying to sound casual.
"I couldn't say, Your Highness," the Eunuch replied. "I'm not sure when he arrived."
Henry felt a knot of anxiety forming in his stomach. Something about this was not right. He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. "I need to speak with him," he said, a hint of urgency in his voice.
As Prince Henry made his way down the long, winding hallway, he felt the weight of his uncertainty pressing down on him. The air was thick with tension, and he could feel the uncertainty gnawing at him. He knew that when he reached his father's office, he would have to confront him, to demand answers. But what if he didn't like what he heard? What if this whole situation was even worse than he could imagine?
As he reached the door, he paused for a moment, taking a deep breath before knocking. "My father" he knocked and called out "you can come in Son" Emperor replied, he added "what wrong Henry?" "Father" you still use in pranking me like before" said Henry, his father smile and said "I don't know what you talking about Henry" while is father was still sitting on the office chair.
"You mean that Father" he replied "I don't know what the prank is all about" said his father, Prince wide up the envelop he decided to keep behind his back, "tada! Father" Henry said with a smile, "oh!!, I don't expect you to show me this Henry, all I need is your what I demanded".
"His majesty!, you still kidding me after showing you this envelop" said He "what the Kind about? Don't you check what was inside the envelop?, come on! You disturbing I have a lot to handle, am getting not use to it anymore" said Emperor, "Father, stop this Prank, and am matured enough" he said with a smile, he added "though, I didn't see anything inside it".
"What!, you said what!!" said the Emperor, "I didn't see anything inside it, you gave me an empty envelope" he replied "I don't think this true son, I gave you because I knew something was inside before giving you" said Emperor "of course not father, there's nothing inside it" he replied, as his father stood up in a serious countenance.
"Give me the envelope let me check son" said Emperor, he return the envelope which was empty, "what! Son, are you sure this was empty?", "yes!!" he replied "I wrote a letter to you, so I kept it inside this envelope and packaged it well for you" he felt bemused. The Emperor's expression darkened, and he looked at Henry with a mix of suspicion and disappointment. "You're telling me that I sent you an empty envelope?" he asked,
"I didn't see anything father, am serious, trust me" said Henry "did you found the envelope open before you dip your hand inside it?", "yes, father" what, so someone barge in here and stole it, he moved away from his table, and move closer to his son.
"Henry, I left a letter inside the Envelope, in which I want to give you secretly, I don't want to disclose it" he added, "if anyone sees it in the palace anything may come at anytime" said Emperor "father!! I don't understand you, please can you explain to me more better" he replied, "what I don't want to happen, it about to happen, I wrote a letter regarding your son the mighty child in which I revealed your son identity on it".
"What!! Father, you asked me to keep this as a secret, why all of a sudden, you should have explain to me in person" Henry replied, "no! No!, this can't happen" Emperor exclaimed "who the hell, barge in into my office without my prior approval", as the Emperor start moving sluggishly to and fro in his office, trying to recap who would have do this.
"His Majesty!, have you forgotten that you give Beckham son a punishment to do?" said Henry, "it true, I need to act fast before everything is revealed to the Kingdom" he replied and added "guard!! Guard! Watchmen!!", Emperor yelled out "calm down father, I will sort it out for you" said Henry "no! Am not senseless I know what am doing son!, just hold here".
The Guard arrived, "yes! His highness" as he bowed to him "go and get me Devilee now" "okay his majesty" he replied, the guard exit the two doors and branch outside the Palace gate, in about a minutes, he got there, and knocked on the door, "who's there" said Milady "it me, Emperor guard".
She went to the door and get it open, "yeah, what do you want?" she said "the Emperor asked me to call on Devilee, it an order" he replied, "what happen?" said Milady "Emperor order ma" he replied, as his mother called on his son, "Devilee!! Devilee!!" she yelled out "Mom!" he replied and ran to her, "am here mother!" said he
"The king called for you" his mother added, "Remember what your father told you earlier," his mother whispered. But Devilee couldn't help but feel a knot of dread in his stomach. He knew his father had high expectations of him, and he didn't want to disappoint him. But he also couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.
As they approached the Emperor's chambers, Devilee's heart was pounding in his chest. He could feel sweat beading on his forehead, and he took a deep breath, trying to steady himself.
The guard's grip was firm, almost painful, and Devilee found himself being pulled along without any choice in the matter. He tried to focus on breathing, to steady his nerves, but he could feel his heart pounding in his chest. Where were they going? What was happening? And what had he done to deserve this? on arriving there, Emperor and Henry were into discussion in which Henry told his father that he saw Devilee moving out but I didn't see anything with him.
As they reached the door to the Emperor's chambers, the guard released his grip and stepped aside. Devilee's palms were sweating, and he took a deep breath before stepping inside. Deville stand still behind him as the Emperor move slowly majestically to him and hold on his shoulder, Devilee heart started beating and increasing in tempo, as everyone can hear the sound of it, Devilee gaze at the Emperor.
"Devilee!!" the king parted his shoulder and added "did you come to my office?" "no, His majesty, I didn't even come here to clean this room" Devilee felt his heart pounding in his chest as he tried to explain himself. "I swear, I never entered your office," he said, his voice shaking slightly. "I didn't even know it existed. I was just cleaning in the other part of the palace."
The Emperor looked at him for a long moment, his expression unreadable. Then, finally, he spoke. "I find it hard to believe that you could be so unaware," he said, his voice stern.
"Hey!!, I saw you coming out of the Hallway, you passed through the corridor" said Henry "I didn't pass through any corridor," Devilee insisted. "I was cleaning in the other part of the palace, and I never even saw the corridor that leads to your office."
He could feel the tension in the room, and he desperately wanted to prove his innocence. "I would never lie to you, Your Majesty," he said, his voice full of sincerity. "I'm telling the truth.", the Emperor has asked him so many time with enough prove but he kept repeating his emphasized stress.
The Emperor considered this for a moment, then nodded. "Very well," he said. "But I want you to know that I'm trusting you. If you betray that trust, there will be consequences.", Devilee heart felt relieved when he left the office, "henry, let asked for the inspector help for the Investigation" said Emperor, "Father! You need to rest, I will figure this out for you". Henry added,
"Be careful," the Emperor warned. "Your powers are not fully recovered yet. If you push yourself too hard, you could risk losing control."
"I understand," Henry said. "But I have to try. This is too important."
The Emperor sighed. "I know how you feel," he said. "But be careful. Promise me you won't push yourself too far."
"I promise," Henry said. "But I have to do this."
"I know," the Emperor said, and there was a hint of pride in his voice. "You are a brave and determined young man. but...….."
