Chapter 3: The Foundation

"Seems I've landed at least four years ahead of the main storyline, the Jeju island gate is yet to appear" I mused, my eyes drifting across the room.

Two days had slipped by since the groundbreaking interview, and I found myself atop the tallest skyscraper in Seoul. It was astonishing how the banks readily opened their vaults to an S-rank hunter.

Lost in thought, I continued to explore the opulent penthouse. Floor-to-ceiling windows flooded the room with the golden glow of the setting sun, casting a warm and inviting ambiance over the luxurious furnishings. The grandiosity of the space was nothing short of breathtaking, from the marble floors that felt cool beneath my feet to the crystal chandeliers that dangled like glittering constellations overhead.

Stepping closer to the window, I was met with a breathtaking sight. Seoul sprawled before me, a tapestry of modern skyscrapers and historic landmarks bathed in the soft hues of dusk. It was as if I could touch the very heart of the city, a place where tradition met innovation, all from the vantage point of the highest throne in the urban kingdom.

While I marveled at the opulence of the room, I couldn't resist casting a glance at my reflection. It was still difficult to believe, but I now possessed the same body as Trafalgar Law. The shock of seeing myself in the mirror for the first time had yet to fully wear off.

A sudden knocking sound broke me from my stupor, and I made my way to the door.

"Ah, Chief Woo, what brings you to my not-so-humble abode?" I greeted him with a touch of sarcasm.

"This house is everything but humble, Hunter Haneul," he replied, appearing more at ease around me compared to our earlier encounters. "I'm here with the papers you need to sign to formalize the guild."

"Perfect, I'll handle the procedures," I acknowledged, but then added, "However, since you're already here, there's something I'd like to discuss."

He looked at me with curiosity. "What is it?"

I took a moment to gather my thoughts. "I'd like you to join my guild, and before you refuse, I have several reasons for making this request."

He maintained his respectful tone. "And what might those reasons be? As you know, I'm already a member of the Hunters Association."

"Before I explain, I want you to know that I've already discussed this with Chairman Go Gunhee, and he's given his approval," I began, laying the groundwork.

"Even though I'm one of the strongest hunters in Korea, I'm still relatively new to this role. Having a seasoned hunter like you, someone with experience in management, would greatly simplify the challenges I'll face. Additionally, as a strong A-ranker, you'd be a valuable addition to the team. Of course, I'd offer you the position of Vice President within my guild, along with a more generous salary than what you receive at the Hunter Association."

"I understand your concern about leaving your role in the Association, Chief Woo," I acknowledged. "But by becoming the Vice President of my guild, you'd be in an even better position to assist Chairman Go."

I leaned in, my tone growing more serious. "You're aware that a power struggle is brewing within the other top two guild. The country lacks the means to prevent it, and currently, I'm the only force holding those factions at bay, apart from the Hunter Association."

He looked conflicted. "Can I have a few days to think it over?"

"Of course, take your time," I agreed. "But don't deliberate for too long. Time isn't on our side. Also, this would be your monthly salary."

I handed him a sheet of paper with a figure written on it. His reaction was one of shock. "What?! You want to pay me 200 million won a month?!"

"Indeed," I affirmed. "That's what I believe your contribution is worth."

As he processed the offer, I couldn't help but think, "And with his assistance, I stand to gain so much more from the Jeju raid. If I play my cards right, I might even secure rights to the gate."

"Well, it would be my pleasure to work for you, Boss," Chief Woo replied, making a slight bow.

"Certainly," I responded. "Feel free to call Chairman Go to discuss it with him."

As Chief Woo stepped aside to make the call, I couldn't help but reflect on the differences between the Chief I had read about in the manga and the one before me. He seemed more approachable and adaptable, likely due to the change in circumstances.

[Chairman Go's POV]

Chairman Go watched the clock, knowing that Hunter Haneul would be presenting the offer to Chief Woo at this moment.

"I'll need to appoint a new Chief," he thought to himself just as his phone began to ring.

"Yes?" he answered, his voice measured.

"Chairman, were you really aware of Hunter Haneul's offer?" came the inquiring voice on the other end.

"Obviously, I was the one to suggest it," Chairman Go replied, his tone both serious and relaxed.

"But why, sir?" the voice pressed.

"Didn't Hunter Haneul explain it to you already?" Chairman Go inquired. "You're more valuable to me within his guild. Your role is to help him rise swiftly and keep the other two guilds at bay."

"I understand, Chairman. It's been a pleasure working with you all these years," Chief Woo replied, a hint of emotion in his voice.

Chairman Go couldn't help but chuckle. "It's been a pleasure for me as well, Chief. Well, Vice President now, I suppose. Look at you, rising through the ranks quickly," he added with a touch of sarcasm.

"Also, keep a close eye on Hunter Haneul for me," Chairman Go said in a meaningful tone.

"I will, sir. I'll be back later with the guild formation papers for your approval," Chief Woo assured him.

With that, he ended the call, setting in motion the next chapter of his career within the Diástima Guild.

[A couple of days later]

"President, you're absolutely nuts. You want to buy the entire skyscraper for the guild?" Vice President Woo asked incredulously.

I grinned, my flair for grandiosity in full display. "Yeah, I already live on the top floor, so why not buy the whole thing? It'll be safer for the guild if I'm always nearby."

"But do you know the price?" Vice President Woo pressed.

"Of course," I replied shamelessly, "I've got it covered. Or should I say, the bank has it covered."

Shifting gears, I turned serious. "Chief, how's the recruitment going?"

"Exceptionally well," Chief Woo answered with pride. "You'll need to meet them and make the final selections, but we have an impressive pool of candidates. Fifteen A-rankers, forty-five B-rankers, and a hundred and thirty C-rankers."

"Let me see some of their profiles," I requested, taking the folders in hand. As I skimmed through the documents, one particular profile caught my eye.

"This one has potential," I said.

"Yes, I thought so too. She's a healer, and a quite powerful one at that," Chief Woo confirmed.

"Tell her to come meet me in a couple of hours," I instructed. "Early, I know, but I want to see what she's made of."

"Right away. I'll call her immediately," Chief Woo responded.

"You'll find me in my office."
