Chapter twenty
That night inside the tent, Sayo and Arya were both lying down from exhaustion. They didn't sleep yet. Sayo asked about Arya's dreams, about the great things she aspires to do. Arya's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as she shared her desire to explore every corner of the world and immerse herself in the cultures and landscapes of distant lands.
Arya excitedly said that she would like to go to other countries and places. visit everywhere and travel all over the continent.
Sayo listened intently and her heart beat increased. He knew he wanted a purpose, one that would ignite a fire within him. However, he still did not have the great goal that Arya and Leonardo had talked about.
Sayo and Arya slept together that night. The interest of these two had increased and the fire of their love was strong.
The next day, Johan entered the camp with some news. The news was that the King of Rhodes had died. Some people were happy to hear this news, but after hearing the rest of the news, they could not show any signs of happiness. The former king's son, Romero, has enthroned. The heavy atmosphere was accompanied by an air of uncertainty, as whispers of the young king's ambition and ruthlessness could be heard a lot.
The cruel and cunning Prince Romero wasted no time in consolidating his power. He surrounded himself with intellectuals and dismissed anyone who dared to question his authority. His sharp wit and strong tongue and power of speech masked his true nature and made him a formidable foe. He was a clever politician.
Rose: "Then the government demanded my death because of my brother. I should've known that."
Frank: "If the things I heard about Romero are true, there's a tough situation ahead of us."
Gregor: "I was happy when I first heard the news of the king's death, but now..."
Leonardo interrupted Gregor and said loudly while standing in the middle of the camp: "It doesn't matter. With the death of a tyrant king, the state of the country will not improve. Instead, another tyrant will fill his place. It doesn't matter who is sitting on the throne. We eradicate oppression."
Sayo sensed that a darker time was coming. He had heard that the new king was a very intelligent and combative man. A hero was needed to rise up against the new king, someone who would challenge Romero's tyrannical rule. A new part of Leonardo's struggle was formed.
As the days passed, Sayo witnessed firsthand the cruelty that Prince Romero inflicted on the innocent. Taxes were increased and those who could not pay were sold as slaves. Fear and oppression like a fetid wound covered the entire kingdom. Leonardo's heart burned with a new determination to protect the weak and restore justice to Rhodes.
After some time, Arya's leg recovered and she started training immediately. Everyone was preparing for the future battles because a new phase had begun. They should have prepared themselves for difficulties.
In the darkness, a glimmer of hope appeared. Leonardo believed that Romero's cruelty to the villages could eventually cause all the villagers to unite with his group to revolt against the capital. Leonardo became the voice of the voiceless, the defender of the oppressed.
A battle of wits had developed between Leonardo and Romero. Each of them had their own strategy and plan. Each of them had their loyal companions. Each of them had a trump card for themselves.
While Sayo and Arya were practicing shooting in the camp, and Arthur and Elena were practicing swordsmanship together, Leonardo, Rose and Frank were planning something for the coming days to surprise the government forces. A good plan was considered a powerful step to declare war on Romero and bring back hope to the villagers.
