Chapter 5: Abilities (Types, Levels & Ranks)

MVs and STs were indeed, things that should be carefully kept as secrets. Seth had to applaud himself for lying to his new family as he saw their hesitant reaction to his question.

His father's face switched from shabby to shock. Same did his mother and giggling seniors who suddenly exchanged confused glances as the words of Seth's question came blasting into their ears.

After a long period of silence, Seth decided to say something:

"What's with the sudden silence, I only wanted to know your MVs and STs since you've known mine. Is there a problem with that?" Seth questioned, disappointed.

His father nodded negatively with a shameful look, wondering how smart Seth had been in just hours after reincarnation.

Newborns might not have been reborn as infants, but their soul was as infantile as a day old baby's character. Once they got reincarnated, the age of their soul started up from square one, causing them to become inefficient in the aspect of smartness and warfare.

Every individual is reborn to Nature-2 with two Soul Chambers, the soul chamber at the right side of the chest is known to be the carrier of one's Affinity which automatically awakens one's Ability after absorbing the content inside the Ability Stone. This Ability Stone can only be found in the soul chamber of a Unicorn which could only be acquired on the Moon Day.

However, someone like Seth whose childishness was totally evicted left his family astonished as his eager face continued to scan the four figures around him, waiting for a reply to his question.

Soon, his father luckily found out something to say in other to escape the storming question. As he looked at his Newborn son, he funnily smiled calmly and said:

"Uhh! Don't you know? You should try reading the History Book. People who have awakened their Ability will automatically forget the rate of both their MV and ST. We can't remember ours, and that's why I asked you to disclose yours because you are definitely going to forget it after awakening your Ability."

"Really?" Seth asked.

This time, his smartness was not quite the mark. He quickly believed their words and quenched his curiosity.

Xavier who had been speechless before suddenly smashed into the conversation with a cunning smile. "Yeah! That's it. We automatically lost awareness of them after killing the Unicorns."

"I remembered that day when I and Xavier couldn't even recall what happened in the encounter with our angel. It was so aggravating, right?" Nicky said and turned to Xavier.

"Yeah, so frustrating. Though we have gotten used to it, we shouldn't try to remember that, right?" Xavier said, turning back to look at Nicky.

"Sure," Nicky answered and set her gaze on Seth's calm face. "So bro, That's what happened to our rates, we lost awareness of them after the 11735th Moon Day."

"You see son, I'll advise you to go get the History Book. It wouldn't take you more than a week to read it all. I think that would lessen your insensibility about Litchnigan," Seth's father said with a wide grin.

Then later, his mother who had been silent for a while finally tried to say something. Her face was slightly frowned, driving Seth into a sea of confusion as he noticed that she was not blending into the conversation.

"Okay, let's eat up. It's getting late, Xavier and Nicky would have to withdraw some money at the Gold Jackpot," Seth's mother, Emily said as she continued to feast on the spiced chicken.

"Hey little bro, how about you going with us to the Gold Jackpot, it'll be fun!" Nicky said.

"I won't have to go with you guys. I'm stressed up already," Seth rejected, without trying to look at his sister. Though he was truly stressed up after the long walk from the entrance of the Golden Fox Clan down to the edge of the eastern region. Even Nicky, herself, understood his situation. Having to fall from The Void of Life for about an hour wasn't really an easy thing to do too, and this had made her lose hope in convincing Seth to go with them.

Soon, Xavier decided to use his smart senses to convince Seth. It was something that would definitely draw the attention of every Newborn. Plus, it was the main trait of Litchnigan which all Newborns must be made known to after meeting their families.

After thinking wide, Xavier chuckled repeatedly and asked cheerily:

"Do you want to know about the classification of Abilities in Jupiter?"

Seth quickly nodded, as he paused his feasting. He had wondered how Abilities worked in terms of knowing which one appeared to be the strongest of all. So this time, he didn't want to miss the opportunity of getting a lecture about them.

"Yeah. I'd like that," Seth replied, "I'll go with you guys if you can only promise to enlighten me about them."

"Sure! I'll, I mean... We'll," Xavier said, grinning uncontrollably as he stood up from his seat.

"So, let's go now before it gets late," Nicky said as she also stood up after taking some water.

Since Seth was already full, he quickly stood up and whipped the oily liquid off his lips. After cleaning up himself, he quickly went into the room that his father had offered him to change his ragged cloak into something decent.

Minutes later, Seth dashed out of his room wearing the usual attire of the Golden Fox Clan residents.

It was a long gold garment, possessing a metal-like batch of Golden Foxes attached to different parts of the cloth. It has an affixed cap at the neck region with a broad pocket at the right chest region which indicates the rank of an individual's ability.

Now, Seth really looked like someone from the Golden Fox Clan.

'I like this... A Golden Fox Garment looks exactly like a Golden Fox's skin. Only its skin thickness made the difference,' Seth thought, staring at his artistic costume.

After checking himself up, Seth glanced at Xavier and Nicky who seemed to have been staring at him for a while.

"What?" Seth asked, curious.

His twin seniors uniformly nodded after exchanging looks. "Ummm, nothing," Xavier muttered, trying to suspend his astonished gaze against Seth.

Truly, the reason for their sudden attitude was nothing but the fact that Seth's appearance was exactly like that of a 4-star ranked individual after wearing the Golden Fox Clan's Cultural Outfit when he was only a Little Dormant Newborn.

His appearance was clearly showing the physique of a Magus — a 4-star ranked magician. Not just a typical Magus, but a high-level Magus who could have been up to (A+)-level in his Ability Level.

As Seth attempted to take the lead towards the door, Xavier quickly called:

"Hey. One more thing, you should get a storage ring."

Nicky nodded in agreement as Xavier gave those notifications. However, they were also putting on a storage ring as it was a normal thing in Litchnigan, most especially when going to the Jackpot or the clan's town market. Nonetheless, storage rings are used in every duty.

Xavier quickly scrambled into his room and brought out a new golden storage ring. It was certain that everything about the Golden Fox Clan was about gold. Houses and other constructions were mainly built of actual gold with designs of Golden Foxes created by best of (C-)-level Master crafters.

There was never anything left unranked in Litchnigan. All structures, Humans and Half-elves, Families and Clans, Weapons and Artifacts. And most especially, Monsters.

After equipping the storage ring, Seth quickly walked through the door, following Xavier behind. Nicky was ahead of the walking queue.

As they stepped out of the house, the sounds of cheers dashed into their eyes from the west, making them feel the vibes of the Portal Opening Festival.

"I think the newborn of the Penn Family has a huge Market Value. The little fellow would be a lucky figure in Litchnigan," Xavier said, still placing his gaze at the Type-2 mansion in the west.

"Yeah I guess," Nicky said, standing close to Seth who seemed to be staring at them as they chatted.

Seth stood calmly without uttering a single word. Whatever! If that Newborn really has a huge MV rate, Seth was sure that it wouldn't be higher than his. This was why his soul got purchased in the Soul Mall just in the first view.

"Let's go! It's getting late," Seth yelled at his seniors who seemed to have forgotten that they were on an errand. As soon as his loud voice rang into their ears, their eyes widened in shock, causing their hearts to pound rapidly.

"Crap! What's with the shout? You almost extracted my soul from its chamber," Xavier said, glaring at Seth with his right hand on his chest.

Though Nicky wasn't too frightened, instead, she angrily walked away from that spot and headed towards east — towards a road leading to the Golden Fox Clan market. After walking for about ten meters ahead, she raised her right hand to indicate a sign: "Let's go". Only Xavier could understand his twin sister's gesture, so he was the only one that followed. But after staying back for a while, Seth also followed, cursing in his thoughts:

'Lust-driven idiots.'

******

Moments later, they arrived at the clogged market of the Golden Fox Clan.

The market was a noisy cacophony of sounds with shoppers haggling and chatting. The discordant atmosphere of the market was a reflection of its lively bustling character. However, this crammed area was nothing to compare with the City Market of Zenith — the market of the Northern continent's capital located at the Blue Whale Clan.

Regardless, the Golden Fox Clan was still proud of having a Type-3 market, since it could satisfy the demands of their wants and needs.

As the market fills, the air hung thick and slick. The distant clinks of coin passed from one another; the clanging of newly made swords by the "Master" ranked Blacksmiths and the roar of predicting shoppers echoed from one corner to the other.

"Tasty Zenith-made bun here for 1 S-coin!"

"Ram combat gamble game, 2 S-coin for a start!"

"Rich seafood here for 4 S-coin!"

"Type-3 longsword here for 1 G-coin."

"Mess Rash healing portion here for a Diamond!"

Merchants continued to yell at the top of their lungs, trying to draw buyers to their stores.

Seth watched the scenes as they walked, nodding negatively as though he was watching a tragic movie. Nothing drew his attention except for the Type-3 longsword. But since it cost a lot, Seth had no choice but to ignore it.

Most people in the Golden Fox Clan market were all Master-ranked individuals. The 3-star batch was boldly attached to the top of the cultural attire. After noticing this, Seth quickly remembered the cause of his accompany with his seniors.

"I think it's time you guys should start giving me answers about the so-called Abilities," Seth questioned, putting on a serious look.

"Oh, that?" Xavier said, grinning directly at Seth's pale moist face. "Nicky would start, she is more of a researcher than me."

Nicky slightly nodded and glanced at Seth, smiling as though she was reading the last part of a happy-ending romance novel.

"Okay, where should we start from? Okay, let's go for the Ability Type first."

Seth nodded calmly, placing his gaze on Nicky.

"In Litchnigan, there are three classifications of Abilities. The Ability Type, Ability Level, and Ability Rank," Nicky sighed and continued, "The Ability Type is a class showing how powerful a person's ability is. For instance, I miserably awakened a Mind Reading ability. Yeah! I can read anything from your mind, which makes me always aware of your intents or thoughts."

Seth's eyes widened in fright as he stared at Nicky. Mind Reading? This was the Ability Ryder's sister awakened in his unfinished novel. The Heck! What if she knew that he had cussed them as lust-driven idiots? That wouldn't bring a friendly reaction.

Since Nicky was going to read his mind if he thinks anything, Seth forced himself to stay calm and continue listening to her lecture.

"The curse, I know it had made you a bit spooked, but don't worry, it's nothing to me."

"Did he curse us?" Xavier angrily asked.

Nicky quickly replied, seeing the incoming eruption of outrage in Xavier. "No! It's not us, it was those punks who slammed into him at the alley" Nicky lied, smiling at her angry brother. After convincing Xavier, Nicky turned to Seth and continued her speech:

"My Mind Reading ability is placed among Type-4 Abilities since mind reading is not so admirable to the people of Litchnigan. To me, it was a curse, not an Ability And most notably, my ability is inactive in the morning."

"Really?" Seth asked.

"Yeah! The same thing applies to Xavier's Ability... He awakened a Time Fasting Ability. What in the world is a Time Fasting Ability, that's crap! Everyone has hoped of getting a powerful ability that can storm natures, but here are we, awakening a useless ability with a useless God."

Nicky angrily spoke, facing to the ground. Seth really felt for them, but he felt for himself the most. Someone whose God is identified is far more prosperous than the one with an unidentified God, just like Seth. Seth feared that he might not awaken his Ability, since his Affinity couldn't be detected. To him, life was going to be a living hell, just as his angel as predicted.

Soon, Seth was totally lectured about Abilities, and he had really learned a lot.

An Ability Level is a class of a person's ability showing their stage of authority breakthrough to their abilities. For example, when someone increases from (F-)-level to (F)-level Ability Level. This means that an individual has a breakthrough into a higher stage of his/her Ability Level.

Since Seth hasn't awaken his ability yet, he was a "no-rank" individual. As he was told, Newborns awaken their ability after killing a Unicorn on the Moon Day. But before Seth could have a full assurance of achieving that, he would have to join the Dormant Academy at the Red Tiger Clan.

Talking about Ability Ranks, this is the most potential and influential class among all Ability Grades. The Ability Rank is a position attained by every single person in Nature-2. It is a rank showing an individual's status in Litchnigan, and these ranks are illustrated by stars, which are attached to the attire of every person, except for Newborns who are known as "no-star" individuals.

All in all, Seth discovered that these are the plots of his novel: Legacy of Gods.

'What's all these? Did I reincarnate into my book?"

Seth never got an answer to that question, until he decided to recheck his stats. This time, it was an overall inspection.
