Chapter 17: Chapter 17 - Escaping Hell [2]

I then began looking for either Caelus, or the young man who subdued me would be fine. The Cloak Of Darkness was the only item of interest in this facility, and honestly, being in this place was nothing short of horrible for me. Being here was a constant reminder that I had been reduced to an animal, the walls reminded me of how I practically toyed with by that old man.

It was a reminder I didn't need, and so, I began walking around the facility. The facility wasn't actually that big, there were a couple rooms that had things operating tables, surgical gear and safety gear like hazmat suits, surgical gloves and other bits of medical gear.

There were other rooms that served as personal quarters, those had beds, bathrooms and everything else you'd expect a bedroom to have.

As I walked through the facility, I began to see dead bodies. Some were torn to shreds, others frozen and some had been vaporized by lightning. This was all done by Caelus Tempest, he could freely manipulate lightning, ice, water and wind due to his 'Weather Manipulation' bloodline ability.

It truly was an incredibly versatile power, he could manipulate and recreate any and all weather related phenomena. It was honestly an overwhelming power for one man to have. It was a totally absurd bloodline ability, even if it wasn't normally as strong as it was when he used it. In fact, only he could manipulate weather to that extent among his entire family tree.

Caelus was a man who through his own talent had stepped into the realm of monsters. He was someone I admired even in my past life, taking what you have and reaching the heavens with it was something that I found inspiring.

Reinhardt's family also had a bloodline ability, if memory served me right, it was to do with swords or just weapons in general? Or maybe it was to do with armour? It wasn't too well explained or even mentioned particularly often. I barley remembered that it even existed.

Reinhardt supposedly didn't awaken it, but, bloodline abilities didn't always have to be realised upon birth or even Awakening. Sometimes they just appeared at a random point in a person's life.

This was especially true bloodline abilities that were unrelated to Mana. These could be realised at birth compared to Mana related bloodline abilities such as weather manipulation which Awakened only at Awakening or afterwards.

Bloodlines were a rather annoying aspect of this world's power system. A person could also inherit bloodlines from their parents they could inherit say, the power of a God through linage. Or, they might just get an extra set of arms through said lineage.

Not that having four arms wouldn't be amazing or anything, it would probably be an insane advantage in terms of hand to hand combat.

Well, it doesn't exactly matter. I'm not even sure if having four arms is an actual ability, in any case. The point is that bloodlines can be pretty much anything, making them both a vague and unpredictable concept.

Honestly, I was hoping to awaken 'my' family's bloodline ability as soon as possible. I needed to sharpen my claws to survive, and the addition of a new claw would be immensely helpful.

As I walked down the hallway, I finally saw Caeulus and the Knight from before. This had been a two man operation from what I could tell. Honestly, I wasn't sure why Caelus had been deployed here.

I looked at Caelus, he was taller than I was. Probably around an inch/three cm taller than I was. He was also more muscular than I was, his skin was slightly tanned, his eyes were a rather bright blue while his hair was jet black. He was a rather young, handsome man who was both imposing yet welcoming.

His presence was almost divine. It gave off this... feeling of superiority, it was as if I was staring into an abyss of raw power. I wanted for run, my instincts told me that one blow from him would kill me instantly.

My hairs stood on edge as I contemplated running, not did I think to remember that he was here for the sole purpose of saving. As if noticing my unease, he smiled.

"I'm not here to hurt you. Also, I like your cloa-"

"It's mine. You're not getting it."

I said with a deadpan expression on my face, I wasn't sure if he was asking for my cloak but there was no way I'd be giving it away.

"I... was just trying to start up some conversation. But obviously it's yours. I doubt it's anything I'd want or need. Anyways, her Highness asked me to find you. And to bring you back, even if it was only your body. And I'm glad I found you. Not sure why she was so adamant about it considering you've served her for such a short period of time."

Then, after blinking there was a massive hole in the wall and the entire facility shivered, threatening to collapse. When I looked at the hole, I realised that Caelus had actually made a tunnel.

Then, it hit me. We were...

"Inside a mountain?"

I said, now in the air. When I blinked, I realised that I was not only outside of the facility but also in the damn sky. Caelus could fly, and so he was holding me with one arm while he did so.

'When... did he bring us out here? And did this monster make an entire mountain quiver from a wave of his hand? He didn't even touch the wall. I think. I couldn't really see it to be honest.'

"Since I'm bored. I'll show you something cool."

I then looked at the other Knight, who was in Caelus's other arm.

"Now then, let me show you the power of the one saving you."

'This guy... isn't he meant to see if I'm okay and stuff. Why the hell is he trying to show off. What a weirdo.'
