Chapter 2: Prologue (Part 2)

They lifted Huan Wei, whose leg was bleeding, and took his dagger from him. One of them hit him on the head with a baton and knocked him half unconscious. They took all the weapons from him. They were dragging him towards the elevators.

Ping Peng was a big man. He looked even bigger next to the other guards. When they reached the floor where Chung Minsheng's office was, he grabbed Huan Wei with one hand and started dragging him. The man was dizzy, barely conscious.

When they entered the office door, the other guards stayed outside. Only Ping Peng and his two men entered.

The big man bowed and greeted the boss. "Mr. Minsheng."

Chung Minsheng was looking out through the glass wall. He was silent. He turned slowly towards them. In Huan Wei's barely open eyes, he saw deep hatred. But the same was in Chung Minsheng's eyes.

"Huan Wei," The boss spoke. "In all these years, no one has ever hurt me as much as you have." He walked around his desk to him. He grabbed Huan Wei's chin and lifted it up so he could look at him. "Now you are in my hands. Do you know how to kill you?"

Chung Minsheng looked up at Ping Peng. "Take him to the 3rd Warehouse," he said, then turned his head to Huan Wei. "Prepare an acid tank."

"Whatever you say, boss." One of the security guards hit Huan Wei once more on the head, knocking him unconscious.

"Stay with him, Ping Peng." Chung Minsheng spoke angrily. "One more run and I'll throw you in that acid tank. I'll get rid of that idiot Joe and come over there."

As Ping Peng left, Chung Minsheng straightened his own collar. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself.

---

"You will come to us again." Tens of thousands of voices echoed in Huan Wei's mind at the same time.

"You can't escape this time."

"We have plans for you."

"You belong to us."

Huan Wei opened his eyes. His wrists hurt. He had a terrible headache. It didn't take him long to realize that he was suspended in mid-air. He was bound and suspended by chains. The steam and stench from below him burned his lungs.

Looking around, he realized he was in one of the warehouses where Chung Minsheng did his business. Underneath was a huge pool of acid. Next to the pool, many men in suits were waiting.

Huan Wei struggled a little to break free, but it was pointless. He was tied very tightly. It was impossible to get out of the chains. Ping Peng was also waiting there.

"He's awake." said one of the suits.

Ping Peng ordered, " Call the boss." Someone immediately sprang into action. Soon, Chung Minsheng arrived.

He was looking at Huan Wei hanging there. "Haven't you ever thought, Huan Wei?" he began. "How painful death would be if you fell into the hands of Chung Minsheng, whose family you killed?"

Huan Wei looked at him. He knew now that there was no way out. There was no need to struggle.

"I thought about it," he replied. "What is it, Minsheng? Are you angry that I killed your whole family, making them writhe in agony?"

Chung Minsheng smiled. Then he laughed briefly. "You know I will kill you. That's why you don't mince words. But I will give you a chance, Huan Wei."

Chung Minsheng approached the acid tank. "My idea is to slowly lower you down, to melt you down as long as possible. That way you won't die immediately, yet... If you beg me for mercy, I will melt you faster."

Huan Wei spat in front of him. "I didn't beg to live, I won't beg to die. And you kill with acid to make a point. Do you still keep the layer of calcium left by your son?"

Chung Minsheng's face fell. Frowning at Huan Wei, he signaled his men to start lowering him.

The hanging man was slowly approaching the acid. Huan Wei was taking deep breaths. "If not in this life, then in the next. I won't leave you alone, Minsheng, and you will fear every step you take. Do not forget that."

Chung Minsheng gave the signal and they stopped lowering him. Huan Wei's body was only a few inches above the acid.

"I will order them to take the layer of calcium that remains of you and pour it where we buried the rotting carcasses of your family. Perhaps your soul will meet theirs."

At his signal, they started lowering again. Huan Wei groaned as his feet sank into the acid, gritting his teeth and trying to endure the pain. His flesh was melting, spilling into the acid tank. Even his bones began to melt.

Chung Minsheng watched unblinking. When Huan Wei was knee-deep in acid, he signaled his men to stop. They lifted Huan Wei up a little.

The young man was breathing very fast. His lower legs were melted. His blood was still pouring into the acid tank.

"Beg me, Huan Wei. Beg me to hasten your death."

"I said the same to your wife. She was screaming too..."

Chung Minsheng was shaking with rage. He signaled again and they began to lower Huan Wei. The young man's face paled.

When his legs went back into the acid, he screamed uncontrollably. He could feel the chemical melting every fiber of his flesh. His muscles were torn, his nerves destroyed, his bones liquefied. But they were taking him down as slowly as possible.

Huan Wei screamed until he was hoarse. Then they raised him up again. His legs were completely gone. Her whole body was red and trembling.

"Are you enjoying it, Huan Wei." Chung Minsheng stood in front of him. He clasped his hands behind his back. He was carefully watching every scene. "Because I enjoy it."

When he signaled again, they lowered Huan Wei again. The acid had now destroyed him up to his stomach. His organs separated from his body and fell into the acid tank. Blood was coming out of his mouth. After shaking a few more times, he died with all the rage in his heart. When his whole body was thrown into the acid, there was really only a layer of calcium remaining.

"You know what you have to do, Ping Peng." Chung Minsheng turned and left the warehouse. Ping Peng began to give orders to the men.

---

"What is this place?"

Huan Wei seemed to float in a dark void. He couldn't see anything. There wasn't even a speck of light. He couldn't even see where his feet were stepping. There was only bottomless darkness.

"Is this what hell is like?"

He kept looking around. The only thing he could see was himself. He never thought he would go to a good place when he died. But that wasn't exactly the place he had in mind either.

"I died in agony. I couldn't even kill him. He made me throw acid by looking me in the eye. And now I'm all alone in the middle of the darkness."

At that moment, voices came from all over the darkness at the same time. It was as if tens of thousands of beings were speaking at the same time. Their voices had a terrifying tone.

"You are not alone, Huan Wei," they said in unison.

Huan Wei's heart began to beat faster. A meaningless fear filled him. He felt this eternal darkness enveloping his whole body. He trembled with fear but could not move. Until a red aura appeared around her.

The crimson power prevented the darkness from enveloping him completely and forced it away from the young man. Still, Huan Wei's fear hadn't gone away. Deep in the back of his mind, he knew he should be afraid of this place. It gave him a terror whose meaning he could not explain to himself.

"Who are you?" was all he could say.

"We are the Black Void."

"You have come home."

"We've been waiting for you."

The young man became more afraid. He was sure he had come to his rightful place. "Leave me alone!" he shouted and started to run.

He ran with all his strength. He ran until he was out of breath, until he was exhausted. He ran until he couldn't take another step yet he couldn't go anywhere. There was nowhere to go in this endless void.

"He's afraid."

"He should be scared."

"He still doesn't want to come home."

"We told you you'd come to our door."

"And you refused."

"You belong to us."

"We will help you."

Huan Wei spun around. He covered his ears to block out the words, but the voice seemed to echo in his mind.

" Let us help you."

"We can help you."

"Your soul is darkened with anger and hatred."

"Let us help you."

Huan Wei looked around in fear. "What help? What will you do to me?"

"We will send you back."

"You will be very powerful."

"You belong to us."

"You will kill."

"We will let you take your revenge."

The word revenge stopped Huan Wei. In that moment, the anger and hatred lurking in his soul was heavier than his fear. He did not know if it was a god speaking. But if he was given a chance to finish his unfinished business, he would not refuse it. Whether that chance came from God or some other being...

"How? How will you help me?"

"You will learn, Huan Wei."

"Once again, you will taste the world of cultivation."

"You belong to us."

"You've always belonged to us."

"You just didn't know."

"You will fix the mistake you made."

Huan Wei was surprised. "What mistake? What are you talking about? I came here for the first time in my life."

Countless laughs erupted from the Black Void. Huan Wei lost consciousness and collapsed to the ground.

And on that day, a child was born in Bitter Sea Town. He committed his first murder at birth and killed his mother.
