Chapter 2: Chapter 2

"Really, what's with everyone and Cameron today?" She thought to herself. She turned on her heels towards the direction of the voice. Her eyes dilated in shock as they beheld the speaker.

She froze at the spot, staring at the speaker.

"You?!"

She stood, transfixed at the point, still staring back at the speaker. She couldn't believe her eyes. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she kept staring at him. She rushed towards him and wrapped her arms around him in a warm embrace as she let her tears pour out.

"Cupcake." His coarse voice echoed in the room. "I'm sorry. I've missed you." He said.

"Dad…I thought you were never gonna come back." She tightened her arms around him. "Why'd you leave? Why'd you leave us like that?" She disengaged from the hug, hitting him with her balled fists as she yelled at the top of tears, crying profusely.

He tried to calm her down, but she was so upset, she wouldn't calm down.

"I'm sorry I went away for too long. But I'm here now, and I'm staying for two months before returning to base." He said.

She sniffed and wiped her tears.

"What?" She asked softly.

"I only took a leave, cupcake. I have to be back at the base by December." He says.

"There's no point." She sniffed and wiped her eyes again. We won't even get to spend another Christmas with you. You're always absent. Risking your life out there for this shitty country that doesn't give two f**ks about you, or your family! This shitty town, willing to die for nothing, with meager pay and….and no holidays to spend Christmas with your family. Just go away, Dad. You shouldn't have come home." She helped herself to a glass of water as she tried to breathe.

"I'm sorry, honey, but I didn't have a choice." He says.

"You do dad!" She threw the glass cup on the ground and it shattered into a million pieces. "You've always had a f**king choice! But you love your f**king job more than your family!" She yelled, her cheeks flushed red, and her breathing intensified as she spoke.

"Language, Kelly. I don't have a choice, all I do, I do for my family. I'm able to sponsor you in college because of my work as a soldier in the military!" He yelled.

"Dad?! You think I don't know that? Of course, I do. I appreciate all you do for our family, but you should just know where and when to draw the line! You barely have time for us. For us, dad. You have a choice. It's us, or your job. You decide." She left the kitchen and then halted in her steps. "For the record, Dad, there's no Cameron anymore. We broke up. And no, I don't want to talk about it." She plugged in her earphones as she ascended the stairs.

She slammed the door shut the moment she got into her room. She plunged herself on the bed, sulking and cussing. Her phone chimed twice before ringing. It was Jed.

"Hey." He spoke up.

"Hi." She tried to sound undisturbed over the phone.

"I'm sorry for upsetting you earlier. I didn't mean to." He stated.

"It's cool, let's talk later?" She said as her eyes darted to her bookshelf.

"Fine by me. I'll dial you later." He said and hung up.

She walked over to her bookshelf and pulled out a black book, that had an inscription "JOURNAL" written in bright bold gold letters on it.

She flipped open some pages till she got to a blank one, her ballpen clicked and she started writing.

"Dear Diary, three fourty two pm. Wednesday, third, November, two thousand and twenty one.

So, the hot guy and I broke up today. I was quite skeptical about breaking up with him at first, but after much thought, I decided to have a chat with him. Well, turns out he's an insecure little brat, I had to end things.

I kissed a cute guy, I didn't know what I was feeling whatsoever, but I don't regret kissing him.

Dad's back, but it's not good news because we're spending another Christmas without him. I've got a date with a cute guy tonight and I'm quite confused as to what to wear. Maybe I should call Devika for some help." She scribbled down in her journal.

She let out a sigh as she closed her journal, eyes fixated on the ceiling for some time before she put away her journal and lay on her back on the bed.

She stared at the ceiling for a while, like someone who's been hypnotized, as tears escaped her eyes. She was so lost in thought that she didn't know when she fell asleep.

There's a slight knock on the door and she peels open an eye.

"Girl, you look like leftover tacos. Get your sulky ass off that bed. And, what's with all that streak of dried tears on your darn face? You look like a f**k face right now. Clean up!" Devika says as she rummages through my wardrobe, in search of god knows what.

"What the hell are you looking for in my wardrobe?" Stacey asked as she crawled out of bed.

"I've got a date tonight, you've got all of 'em hot gowns, and I was like yeah, I should help myself with her wardrobe," Devika replied, still rummaging through my drawer.

"Girl, are you searching for a condom in my drawer?" She asked wide-eyed.

"Gawdd, no. I wish though, but you look like you're gonna go celibate after all this phase." Devika replied.

"Urgh. Maybe you're right. But, thank goodness you're here, I have a date with Dylan tonight and I'm kinda stuck."

"Yeah? That's my date too. Before you go on to rant about how in the world I'm on a date with your man, I'm not. I'm just gonna make sure my girl doesn't f**k this date up, because man, you've got to live. You can't be all sober!" Devika says.

She sits on the bed a little longer, admiring Devika, she was so sweet to have as a friend.

"What time is it exactly?" Stace asked.

"Six thirty, why?"

She rushed into the bathroom for a quick shower. She had less than thirty minutes to get ready and be at Golden Palace for her dinner date.

She rushed back into the room some minutes later, drying her hair and drying herself out at the same time.

"It's six forty two" Devika reminded.

"Can you stop looking at that damn clock!" She said as she stepped into her undies.

There was a plain black sleeveless, v-neck, slim-fit dinner gown lying on the bed.

"I wouldn't need your company, Vee. I won't f**k it up." Stace says as she wears her gown.

She had on light makeup as she was running late. Devika helped style her hair into a stylish messy bun on top of her head.

"It's six fifty three…I'm guessing you're done. Well, you've gotta be a big baby. Have fun on your date, I'll be waiting here." Devika says as Stacey puts on her stiletto.

She blew her a kiss before almost storming out of the room when Devika called her back.

"Cologne, girl." Devika reminded as she sprayed it on Stacey.

Stacey stormed out of the room minutes later. She took out her phone and dialed Jed for the second time before he eventually answered his phone.

"Hey. I'm ready." She said over the phone and he assured her he was almost there.

She walked down the road a little, then an expensive black SUV pulled up in front of her, windows rolled down. She was perplexed as she was very certain it wasn't Jed. So,

if it wasn't Jed, who was it? She lowered herself to the window level to see who it might be.
