Chapter 1: Dreams Come True
My name is Tarun and I work at XYZ office. Although my daily routine may seem ordinary, I often dream of becoming a legendary swordsman in the midst of an apocalypse. To prepare for any potential danger, I always carry a baton with me. With it, I could defend myself if necessary - but alas, reality rarely matches our dreams.
Every day, I watch sword fighting tutorials on MyTube, anime shows, and read books about it. However, I've never been able to apply what I learn in real life.
As I made my way through the bustling crowd on my commute to work, I found myself lost in thought. Feeling a twinge of frustration, I looked up at the sky and silently pondered, "When will it be my turn?"
As I gazed up at the sky, my eyes caught sight of an approaching asteroid hurtling towards Earth. Gradually, the ominous sound of its descent grew louder, capturing the attention of those around me. Suddenly, it crashed into the center of the main road, creating a massive crater.
The people in the vicinity acted swiftly and efficiently, successfully evacuating the area just in the nick of time, ensuring their safety before the asteroid made its destructive impact. On the news channels, reporters were in a state of urgency, broadcasting alarming reports of an unexpected and unprecedented event unfolding. It wasn't just one asteroid; a series of celestial bodies had begun to rain down upon our planet, striking various locations across the Earth's surface. The world watched in disbelief as these cosmic intruders made their presence known in a dramatic and awe-inspiring display, prompting scientists and governments to scramble for explanations and emergency response plans.
Media reports were filled with questions: "Is this the long-feared doomsday scenario scientists warned about? Are we witnessing Earth's darkest day? Why can't our satellites predict these asteroids? Is this the end for us?"
Those questions only intensified public panic.
People around me let out a collective sigh of relief for a moment. But just as we thought we were safe, a crackling sound erupted from the center of the crater, and before our eyes, a hole began to take shape. It looked like something right out of a video game, slowly growing larger, and the tension in the air was palpable.
As I watched the hole forming, a thought crossed my mind: "Is my dream finally coming true?" Yet, a second, more ominous thought quickly followed – the realization that this hole might be a black hole and it will first suck my ass and then slowly devours me.
The hole crackled once more, and suddenly it ruptured, leaving everyone in a state of immense tension. From the tear, a hand emerged, followed by legs, and then a minotaur stepped out wielding an axe. It let out a thunderous roar as if someone had reset their 99% completed saved game. Gradually, more minotaurs emerged, creating a scene akin to a dungeon outbreak.
My heart told me that my moment had arrived. I tightly gripped my baton, and while the crowd scattered in fear, I ran toward the minotaurs, my excitement reaching its peak.
As people fled from the menacing minotaurs, the creatures pursued them with lethal intent. Yet, there I was, running towards the minotaurs with the intent to defeat them – a strange contradiction.
One minotaur noticed my approach and charged. As it swung its axe, I dodged skillfully and used my baton to strike its leg with all my might. The minotaur lost its balance, dropping its weapon. I swiftly grabbed the fallen axe with my both hands and, with all my strength, struck it into the minotaur's back. Then, I placed my foot on the axe's handle and pressed with all my might.
Suddenly, a notification window materialized before me, displaying the message, "You have successfully defeated a level 1 minotaur."
My heart soared with a feeling of triumph like never before. However, the other minotaurs quickly turned their attention toward me, and the only words that escaped my lips were a simple, "Oops."
