Chapter 121: On the still seas... of chaos

The days were long, the nights even longer.

Thankfully I had a real life time skip button in the form of well. sleep.

But still, it was irreparably boring to be on the seas for this stupid amount of time.

Ever since the monster of the seas that was half shark half octopus, the shar being the top half with lots of sharp teeth, the octopus being the bottom half with lots of tentacles.

Hate that guy by the way.

It was usually just sailing, sailing, and even more sailing.

And guess what happened the next morning I woke up?

Even more sailing, it was pain.

But thankfully that pain would be ending today.

Or tonight rather.

After drifting off to sleep in the middle of the day due to boredom or the brief snack of fish in my stomach, I had woken up beneath the deck on one of the many hammocks that swung with the movement of the waves.

I was thankful I wasn't sea sick since it would be even more of a pain, but I was definitely sick of the sea.

"LAND HO"

But hearing that distant voice echo from across the decks and into the sprawling halls of the ship, by quickly moving to one of the many portholes where the cannons would pop out.

I looked through the wooden port hole where a glistening blue sea lightened by the moon light cast onto the sea.

And past the moon light cast onto the sea, the amount of water that I saw sickened me, but now that I saw it, it was beautiful as a patch of green/ purple land was what came into my sight.

It was the corrupted lands.

Staring at the purple lands, I looked at the old man that slowly sneaked up to me and grabbed my arm.

Of course I dodged it, but the old man had some sort of ghost grip with how much speed he was able to output from his old frail body.

I wouldn't think he was weak however with how strong his grip was.

"Land is just up ahead right?"

Moving away from the port hole, I nodded to him as a bright wide smile lit up his face.

If he wasn't an old man one foot into his death bed, I would've been inclined to fulfil his wishes sooner, but sadly since he was literally the age of my grand parents I was more inclined to well...

I guess I would've fulfilled his wishes either way except for some reason he just wanted to go out of the world sooner.

Shaking my head, the old man's grip on my arm was so strong that I could now feel a bit of pain.

It was really surprising since ever since I became the avatar of the Malaise my body was so infused with malaise that my body became incredibly strong.

The undead which were able to crush stones with their hands could only scratch my arms now instead of lopping them off.

Not to say that they were weak but it was rather the opposite.

So feeling the pain in my arm I looked at the old man with a complicated gaze.

It was because soon I would need to kill him.

And don't get me wrong, after killing the bandits/ gangsters in the alleyways and becoming their bosses I found out I didn't really have an aversion to killing people.

A rather perplexing moral dilemma.

I wonder how they're doing.

But ignoring all of that, moving forwards, I looked at the seas without an answer only nodding.

And that was deemed enough for the old man as he subtly nodded besides me and shambled off to who knows where.

Over the course of the few days on the turbulent seas, since there wasn't much to do I was usually spending time underneath the deck chatting up literally everywhere.

And since I was chatting everyone up, I got to know the old man better.

Initially reluctant he finally relented and spoke his name to me and I got to know him better.

I must say that I was surprised when I got to know that he had been alive for about five hundred years due to his master.

And from the timeline of things it seemed that he might've been alive when the Kingdom of Sevallia was transferring to the Kingdom of the Malaise.

And he might've seen many things since then.

And I have an inkling of an idea of what the old man was going through.

Since a human wasn't meant to live for such long times our mindsets are more focused on the present and thus moulds us to be incredibly active people.

Well, that is compared to the long lived species of this world like the elves who seemed to be triple my age while still being the same mental age as me.

But nevertheless, since he lived for about five hundred years he probably wanted many others to kill him and either they failed or they didn't do it.

It just makes me wonder.

What is his so called master to provide a normal human being the life span and regenerative capability to become so inhumanly strong and live so inhumanly long?

I could guess they were a skeleton, but what type of skeleton they were is up to debate.

Thinking about that, my eyes tracked the surface of the seas which seemed restless underneath the calm shining of moonlight.

---

Hungry

That was the thought of the Overlord of the seas.

Slowly snaking through the seas underneath the propellant that was all its sixteen tentacles, the large jaws bit into the flesh of a thrashing whale as its layers of teeth bit into the monster.

Wrapping around it with all of its tentacles, the jaws of the shark bit into the flesh of the whale that was thrashing against the waves for dear life.

Eyes dilating and contracting confusedly, the eyes dashed everywhere for help as a semi stroke continued to shock through its body.

That and alongside the fact that literal shocks were being transmitted through the water to the whale at the same time paralyzing the comparatively larger creature.

Biting into the flesh, the whales movements slowly dulled as the red blood spread into the nearby waters and turned brown.

Feeling the turbulent waves surrounding the whale start to die down, the Overlord of the seas subtly roared in the sea allowing its pups to feast.

Moving its head to the source of magic power and energy that was moving above the surface of the waters with semi intelligent eyes, its pups continued to feast on the carcass of the gigantic whale.

Moving past the thick layers of blubber to the red flesh, the tentacles of the Overlord snaked into the whale and grasped its heart.

The life blood of all that was alive.

Ripping it out of the body with reckless abandon yet with an unprecedented grace, it slowly brought the meal to its mouth as the other pups moved to the hole made by their mother and feasted on the innards of the whale.

Eating the lifeblood of the whale, the Overlord of the seas felt the ache in its stomach abate for a bit before returning barely sated.

Angry

It was so very angry.

After finding the perfect meal in a long time and biting into it, killing it.

It disappeared from its mouth as if it never existed, turning it's previously sought out meal for naught.

And since it couldn't sate its hunger.

It got angrier.

It got happier when it saw another meal, but it was hard to chew and kept on regenerating preventing it from taking its lifeblood from it and sating its hunger.

So it was turned into food for its pups since it couldn't eat it.

And it got angrier since it became hungrier.

But who would've thought that the same meal it ate but ran away suddenly would've appeared after a while.

But it got friends.

Friends with lots of energy in them...

But since there was so many of them and they were on guard against it, they fended her off and sent her back to the seas where she had to resort to her previous instincts of hunting.

And it got angrier as it got hungrier.

Glaring at the sea surface where the collection of energy was located it moved its gaze back down to the sea floor where the body of the whale was slowly descending onto.

Where the other source of energy was residing.

It was regrettable, but the overlord of the sea can't eat through rock to sate its hunger.

It already tried it before.

Thinking that, its glare moved upwards where the major source of energy was located.

But until then.

Its instincts of a predator hungry for food was making it wait.

Red eyes glimmering, its teeth clacked together.

---

In the world, there were various beings known as bosses.

As they were called bosses, they almost definitely had an entourage of other lesser similar beings as themselves to attack or hunt the enemies that they were to kill.

And although they were mostly there to protect the boss, that didn't mean that they were weak.

In fact far from it.

But in the case of the monster known as the Eater of Worlds.

As a boss monster it was a different case as it was instead a loner.

Not liking its lesser brethren of Devourers the Eater of Worlds likes to stay in its own little cave where it hibernates.

But that didn't mean that it couldn't be awakened with other means.

And it was with those means that the Corrupted Eye was able to awaken it.

Staring at the golden veil upon where the one of the first cities to fall stood, the Leader of the Corrupted eye glared at it angrily.

Recalling the little boy that mischievously smiled before unleashing the golden aura and breaking the statue of the hated interloper.

The gauntlets of his clenched and scratched against each others corrupted surface.

Purple gleam darkening every moment, the devotees and priests of corruption all stayed silent in fear of incurring the wrath of the Corrupted Cultist.

It was honestly a miracle that the leader hadn't unleashed their rage onto them yet, what with the gift of corruption enhancing their physical capabilities through the roof.

That is until a Corrupted Follower tentatively made their way to the two meter tall leader and whispered into their ear.

Standing on their tiptoes, the Devotees and priests couldn't even blink before what stood before them was only a pair of legs which used to carry a body on it.

Glancing at the purple blood soaked gauntlets, the devotees silently gulped as they thanked the Corrupted that they weren't a lesser being like the follower.

That was until the Purple knight unsheathed his blade and spun around pointing it straight at one of the priests.

Thanking the corrupted that they weren't a higher being like the priest, the Corrupted Priest silently gulped and stared at the Corrupted Cultist as they spoke.

"More are coming, prepare the corrupted."

"Yes Milord"

Nodding once, the Corrupted Knight turned back to the cliff face and all the corrupted Devotees took this as their time to get the hell out of there.

Seeing that all of the devotees and priests had left by now by quickly and quietly slinking away, the Corrupted knight suddenly fell onto one knee.

Poising their sword in front of them in a downwards position reminiscent of a knight honouring their lord the Knight moved there head down.

And as they did so, the corpse in front of them that was nothing more than a pair of legs suddenly burst into a bunch of violet flames.

Burning fiercely an unrecognizable language slinked into their ears.

"(!#*))!$*_!#)_)|

"Yes Milord, if it is your will."

"|!}{:"?<>}|#(%* *$#( _! |$R|!:?

"..."

"%#&()! )#!(_ !$$}#%{ ||{ }%${}

"It shall be done."

Seemingly satisfied the violet flames suddenly snuffed themselves out as the corpse disappeared without a trace, silently kneeling the knight looked back up with flames flickering in their eyes.

And those flames were of hatred.
