Chapter 3: Roman Civil War

Note: I have updated the image of MC's sister in paragraph comment in the love interest section, so, it's easier for you to visualize the lemon scene that happened in this chapter. Yeah, it's incest time.

...

After Gaius Julius Caesar's threatening letter was sent to the Senate, Rome was in a constant state of tension. Some senators fled Rome and sought refuge with Pompey.

Others hastily returned to their managed garrisons, sending reinforcements to Rome. Some stayed behind, preparing their weapons to defend Rome against the impending usurper or dictator.

From this, it can be seen that the ownership of Rome would be determined by this civil war.

Although on the surface it was a war between Julius Caesar and the Senate, if you have a keen sense of political smell, you would notice that it was not a simple war between Caesar and the Senate, but between Caesar, Crassus, and Pompey.

Crassus symbolized the aristocracy of Rome, driven by their ambitions to retain their power and influence over the working class. Pompey, on the other hand, represented the Senate, while Julius Caesar emerged as the champion of the working class.

That's how the ancient Roman factions in this world worked.

It should be like this until the First Triumvirate was formed, breaking the represented interests. It was an alliance between the three most powerful men (Caesar, Crassus, and Pompey) in Rome that marked the beginning of the end of the republic.

Unfortunately, the establishment of the First Triumvirate is nothing more than a distant dream, rather than a reality. Whether it is Caesar, Crassus, and Pompey have already torn down their friendship and fully gone into a full-blown war for the ownership of Rome.

Whether it is friendship or adversary, in Ancient Rome, nothing lasts forever; they are so fragile that they could be torn down at any time, anywhere, and in any way.

History itself has already been crooked from the beginning to the end. Spartacus is still enslaved while Caesar has already conquered Gaul, and much more. Crassus is still alive, and the Mage Association itself is only a third-rate force in Ancient Rome.

With the absence of Brishian (the Founder of the Mage Association) and Zelretch's existence in this alternate timeline, the Mage Association has no qualification to contend with the hegemony of Rome.

They scramble to make a living by currying favor with all the aristocrats and senators, compared to their modern counterparts who dominated the world on the dark side.

However, it's understandable why they did so. In terms of power, they were no match for the Demigods in this time period, who held sway over the senators' seats and noble houses in every corner of Rome.

They were descendants of the Roman Gods, such as Mars (Ares), Jupiter (Zeus), Venus (Aphrodite), Mercury (Hermes), and many other Roman deities during this era.

Julius Caesar was the son of Venus, the Goddess of love, beauty, and fertility, while Pompey was the son of Mars, the God of War, and Crassus was the son of Mercury, the God of commerce, communication, and travel.

These Demigods weren't of direct bloodline; it was as if the Roman Gods had bestowed their divine blood upon the womb of human women, designating them as their representatives or champions in the human world to indirectly maintain their influence.

That's why Julius Caesar, despite being the son of Venus, endured a miserable childhood and lived in poverty under the oppression of Sulla, the dictator of Rome.

He was compelled to flee to Rome, and in Gaul, he lacked both money and allies to aid in his conquest; he had to rely solely on his own resources.

The Roman Gods itself couldn't directly intervene in the mortal world; it was evident that they couldn't. Given their capricious nature, they couldn't abstain from involvement in their own realm. This was especially true when their son was left destitute.

Of course, Julius Caesar's life was miserable due to his uncle, Gaius Marius, who was the great rival of Sulla. Sulla, cruel as Sulla was, wouldn't let go of his family's opponent and subtly manipulated their lives to prevent them from rising against him in the future.

Unfortunately, Sulla's actions were too cruel, which led to his death and ended the period of turmoil in the Republic of Rome. This gave Caesar a chance, along with his sister Julia Caesaris, to flee far away from Sulla's influence to Rome.

However, despite there being three major factions in Rome, there was still a Neutral Faction that maintained a neutral stance toward the development of Rome.

But Julius Caesar's aggressive move, marching his troops toward Rome, made them want to defend the garrison of Rome and support the cause of the Senate. However, a decree from the Senate that was sent to Caesar suddenly came to light in the public eye, causing them to reconsider their decision.

Although they knew this move was nothing more than propaganda in the war launched by Julius Caesar, and that his cause was just, it couldn't help but make them skeptical about the decisions made by the Senate. Especially taking back the military power into their own hands was a big taboo for the military generals and statesmen of Rome.

They recognized it was a tradition of Rome to respect the Senate after their expeditions and to return the military power.

However, is there a sane man who wants to become poor after gaining power in their hands?

No sane man would do that.

That's why they wanted to teach the Senate some sense by watching from a distance. At the same time, they wanted to make Julius Caesar pay for his arrogance by joining Pompey later to march on Rome and fight against Caesar.

After Caesar taught the Senate a lesson and took Rome for himself, they believed they could breach Rome, especially since Caesar's troops would be exhausted from his war against the Senate, and they had Pompey as their ally.

Even Calpurnia could predict this war tactic at a glance. Would Caesar not detect it? Of course, he knew. The only solution he had was a quick war, or he would suffer the consequences against the coalition formed by Pompey.

How did he do it? She doesn't know, but she is curious to find out.

After all, whether it is strategic thinking, politics, or the art of war, Julius Caesar was considered to be a genius and excelled than most of men.

History proves that fact.

And his conquest against Gaul solidifies that point.

Plus, his previous propaganda of war with the Senate was enough to dishearten the Roman people and the generals who previously wanted to support the Senate.

She paid attention to Caesar because she knew that he would be her future spouse.

Her clairvoyance could see the future and predict Caesar's rise and fall.

Unfortunately, that clairvoyance wasn't used much afterward because it could only predict the fixed future, not the changeable one.

The rapidly changing future made her clairvoyance quite useless.

Calpurnia was the late wife of Caesar in the original timeline, someone who warned him about his assassination, but he didn't heed her advice.

Her appearance was reminiscent of Rin Tohsaka in Fate/Stay Night, but she had blonde hair and crimson eyes, which made her look more like Ereshkigal rather than Rin Tohsaka.

"Calpurnia, were you thinking about your prince charming again?" A blonde-haired girl teased when she saw Calpurnia's dazed look and interrupted her musings.

"Is that man Caesar? The future husband that you always talk about?"

"Luvia, don't speak about him again. What if outsiders hear it?" Calpurnia frowned as she looked around and was relieved that only the two of them were here.

"Well, if you say so," Luvia just shrugged. However, she still paid attention to her request. "I won't discuss him again, but no promises."

"What do you think about Caesar's invasion of Rome, Luvia?" Calpurnia hurriedly changed the topic and didn't want to discuss this matter further.

"Well, we probably need to move from Rome. After all, whether we like it or not, your future husband will probably use our forces in the center of the storm after he takes Rome," Luvia Edelfelt offered her opinion on this matter.

"He is not my husband," Calpurnia looked at Luvia with a deadpan look. "Moreover, whether we move or not, Pompey and Crassus will also try to use us."

"Lastly, he wouldn't do anything that would lead to the ruin of his reputation. Rome is the safest place for us, as long as we are not in the Senate."

"I hope so," Luvia nodded and decided to support Calpurnia's decision on this matter.

"I hope you're right about it, Calpurnia."

...

In the midnight outside the camp of the Rubicon River, there are massive numbers of camps composed of 50,000 legionaries across the river who are camping on this side.

In the inconspicuous camp, the sound of vulgar moans hardly suppresses from the tent. The sound of flesh colliding is so intense, and with one last thrust, Caesar breed his sister's cunt as she rolled her eyes in bliss.

She fainted in pleasure as Caesar leisurely lay down beside her, looking at the ceiling with nostalgia as he remembered how far he had come to the current achievement that he now has.

The most difficult opponent he has fought so far isn't Gaul or the Senate, but Sulla.

Although compared himself with Sulla, who was a fully grown adult with massive influence and military power in his hand when he was just a youth, and nothing compared to Sulla, he wouldn't use them as an excuse for his own incompetence.

Lost is lost; he wouldn't seek reasons for them.

At that time, he was just a nobody, the bottom rung, and someone that could be stepped on at will, which made him question himself: Is he really Julius Caesar destined for greatness?

Fortunately, his sister's existence kept comforting him during his most difficult times, enough to keep him sane.

At that time too, he was engaging in incest with his own sister, Atia, and Julia is a latecomer compared to Atia. Octavia (the female version of Octavian, you know what I mean) is the result of his seed.

Yes, she was his daughter and is currently away from the political landscape, as this is not the time for her to shine.

Whether incest is wrong or not, who cares anyway? He has flexible morals and flexible thinking.

He wouldn't let his sisters marry other men. Just imagine your sister, who cares about you and is always there for you in the most difficult times, suddenly in another man's arms.

What would you do in this situation?

Bless them or cry in the corner of the bedroom?

Or take them for yourself?

Well, it's your life, your choice.

If he were in their shoe, he would take them for himself, just like now.

Caesar smirked when he was thinking of this crooked philosophy inside his head.

"Brother, did you still awake?" Atia looked at her brother, who smirked with a deadpan look. Probably he was thinking something not good again.

She looked at her brother, growing tall. She suddenly understood what her brother was thinking and touched it with her tiny hand.

"I'm just thinking about our past, sister," Caesar caressed his sister's hair and said in a soft tone to his sister.

He groaned in pleasure at his sister's helping hand and was thankful to have such a wonderful sister.

"Is that so? Did you think of me? Or are you thinking about Julia? Or did you think about your witch, brother?" Atia teased her brother's cock and looked at him playfully.

She was not jealous of her brother having more than one woman; they had already accepted each other's shortcomings and wouldn't step on those boundaries to ruin their relationship.

After all, considering how her brother in the past could tolerate her being clingy and a crybaby, always by her side in their worst times, why couldn't she tolerate her brother being a womanizer? Every person has their own shortcomings. If she couldn't tolerate her brother while he could tolerate her attitude in the past, then she had no right to call herself a human being in the first place but a gold digger.

"It should be both of you," Julius Caesar answered as he set his gaze on Julia right beside him. Her naked and defenseless look made him want to ravage her in her sleep.

"Humph... Do you want to do it with her again, brother?" Atia pouted angrily when she saw her brother's gaze and placed herself on her brother's lap.

Her pussy rubbing her brother's dick as his brother grew in arousal by her sudden attack, but she didn't insert it into her brother.

She playfully teased her brother as he had done to her sister, Julia, last time.

"You don't have to. I know you were tired, Atia. You don't have to force yourself," Caesar said.

She nodded at her brother as her help was limited to rubbing as she felt the heat of her pussy grinding her brother growing tall as it gushed out little cum in his stomach.

She helped her brother to clean his cum by licking it.

After that, she snuggled into her brother's arm and enjoyed the sunrise together with him.

Caesar caressed his sister's hair and kissed it as he enjoyed the affection she showed to him.

He looked at the horizon in the distance and kept thinking in his head.

What would he become without his sister's existence?

Would he really endure life in such a brutal world where the law of the jungle is an established fact?

Based on his own knowledge, he knew he wouldn't try his best as he did in his past life.

No one could really be called a friend, lover, or family in the past life, as he had ruined those relationships by his own hand.

His lovers themselves dumped him many times because of how egotistical he was.

Not that he really cared anyway; in his heart, he only had his childhood friend. Unfortunately, she died in his arms due to heart disease, which is what made him a womanizer and ruined his own life in the process with hedonism, wine, and pleasure.

But it was different in this world; he had a sister, he had subordinates who placed their expectations on him, and he had people who believed in him.

He wouldn't make the same mistakes as in his past or let other people oppress them again, as the Senates and Sulla did to them previously.

Unless he stood at the top of the world, he wouldn't rest until his dying breath.

That's why he wanted power and authority above all else, because he knew how difficult life was at the bottom rung and how easily someone stronger than him could step on him without any means to counter them.

And Rome was the answer to that question.

Either he would rise or perish.

There was no turning back.

"Are you thinking about that sad past again, brother?" Atia caressed her brother's chest with her soft hand and comforted him when she saw his frowning expression. "You don't need to think about them again. We are here and have always been here whenever you need us."

"Thank you, sister. If not for you, I don't know if I could really have lasted longer. The same is true for Julia," Caesar sighed.

"The same goes for you, brother. Without you, there would be no us." Atia smiled at her brother as she clung to his arm tightly.

Moved by his sister's words, Caesar made a guarantee for her, for her future.

"I promise victory, sister. I promise Rome."

"I believe in you, brother," Atia said firmly.

"I believe you will win."
