Chapter 13: End of the Road

In the Minister of Works government residence, four different jeeps pulled over in front of the building.

As soon as the jeeps all came to a stop, four men in black suits jumped out of them and ran over to open the back door of the third vehicle.

A slim man with average height and a few grey strands of hair on his head slowly climbed out of the jeep.

One of the men who rushed over to his side handed him a phone with a call already connected. "The P.M.," he announced in a soft tone.

As soon as that name reached his ear, Minister Kim took the phone and walked ahead while placing it on his ear. His countenance changed as his voice became lively.

"P.M.," he laughed into the phone. "Yes, I just returned."

While on the call, Minister Kim made his way into the house with an entourage following after him. They walked past the anteroom and got into a long hallway with gold embellishment and paintings on the white-painted walls.

"Really? That's wonderful. Yeah. Right now? Okay. I will be there in twenty minutes, Sir. Yes."

As soon as the conversation came to an end, Minister Kim stopped in his steps.

"Sir, are we heading out now?" one of the men in rimmed glasses and navy blue suit inquired carefully as he came to stand next to him while offering a small bow.

"Yes. I don't have the time to change out of my suit. I can't afford to keep the prime minister waiting." Minister Kim sighed. He did not expect to get another appointment after being in a federal meeting all day.

When his PA got the word, he immediately signalled for others to get the cars ready. At the same time, another man rushed out from the left corner at the end of the hallway.

"You're back, Sir," he greeted with a deep bow that accompanied a deep voice before straightening his back.

Minister Kim only spared him a glance before turning to face the direction he had come from. "Has my wife returned?" he inquired as he continued in his steps.

Being thrown that question, the man quickly followed and replied as his steps fell into place at his left side. "No, Sir, but President Roy returned an hour and fifteen minutes ago."

"Roy is back?" Minister Kim's brows furrowed as his steps faltered. Because of the secret plans he had, he was bound to be shocked.

"Yes, Sir," the man confirmed. "But he left some minutes ago."

The minister was quiet for two seconds before continuing in his steps. Meeting the prime minister was still more important than knowing more about his son's sudden return from a business trip that was supposed to last eight days.

Without sparing another word, he passed through the door that was opened for him and immediately climbed back into the jeep.

The second assistant who had just finished making the report, stepped aside and bowed his head as the four jeeps drove away.

The minister of works had two personal assistants who aided his daily activities; one who followed him out and the other one who oversaw his affairs in his absence.

That way, information would always be in his hands.

While sitting at the back of the jeep with Roy, Anna looked closely at the red book in her hand and felt that it was surreal.

'I am married?' she asked herself as her gaze fell on the diamond rose gold ring sitting on one of her fingers. Roy had slipped the ring onto her finger when they were at the director's office.

Right as she was dwelling on that thought, a notification sound went off on her phone immediately, she opened her purse and took out her phone.

The moment she saw the message on her screen, her heart leapt in her chest. With trembling fingers, she hurriedly unlocked her phone and clicked on the message which led her straight to the 'G3 Socialites' group.

As expected, her boyfriend and her best friend were the topic of conversation. The more Anna read the more bitterness filled her heart.

She thought that she had gotten over this but it turns out that it had all been a sham. Reading the messages about Sam and Susan being seen together at the shopping mall some minutes ago, turned her thoughts into a mess.

Right then, she saw a message that Susan sent to the group.

Susan: 'Are you people this jobless? Anna's birthday is coming up soon so of course, as her best buddies, Sam and I have to make secret plans to celebrate her birthday.'

A few seconds after that message came from her, someone in the group replied.

Sophia: 'Anna Lee's birthday is a month away, so what kind of grand plans are you two making?'

There were other comments below Sophia's and most of them were backing her while a few were against her.

Someone even said, 'Anna Lee is so lucky. Although she is blind, she still has a faithful boyfriend and a kind best friend to throw a surprise party for her.'

Towards the end of the fight, Sophia replied again after tagging Sam and Susan. 'If you two are dating, it's not a bad thing but provided that Sam had already ended his relationship with Anna.'

There were a few other comments from other socialites who all claimed that Sama and Susan were being shady.

Anna was not interested in those ones. She scrolled back to Sophia's comments and stared at them for a while before sending her a private message.

Thankfully, the latter was still online and opened her DM a minute later.

Anna: 'Hello, Sophia. It's Anna Carter Lee. Can we meet up today privately? If you consent to the meeting, please call my line.'

There were some matters that should no longer be postponed. Besides, she was now married to Roy Kim and after his instruction, Anna deemed it right to get to the end of the road with her relationships with Sam and Susan.
