Chapter 30: Greatest Betrayal

"What the!" Susan's lips moved to form an 'O' as the words at the tip of her tongue could not be uttered. In fact, she was too shocked to voice a word, and Sam was not an exception.

They both stared at Anna with widened eyeballs and open mouths.

Anna moved her gaze from one person to another as she declared, "I am done with the both of you!" Next, she picked up her bag and rose to her feet. Without waiting for their reaction, she fixed her glasses back to her eyes and walked away.

With the trotting sound from her heels, both Sam and Susan were able to come back alive.

"What just happened?" Susan asked as she grabbed Sam by the arm. She looked so scared like she wasn't the one earlier, trying to make bodily contact with him in his girlfriend's presence.

"I-I… I don't know," Sam looked so confused as his gaze remained on the place Anna left from. "I think we are in trouble."

His last statement was the most definite situation they got themselves in. Anna could see, and that meant that she saw every gesture and action between him and Susan.

At the thought of that, Sam quickly brushed Susan's hands away from his arm and dashed out of the noodle store.

How could he let Anna leave just like that? She has regained her sight and that meant that she will soon be back in the spotlight once again, so how could they separate now?

On the other hand, Susan was pained as she felt an unpleasant feeling pull at the pit of her stomach. Sam had just pushed her away to go after Anna, why did she have the time to feel jealous instead of chasing after her supposed best friend?

Did she not feel any ounce of guilt towards her?

---

Anna was so mad that she pushed the glass door of the store with so much stuff that the heavy doors looked so light.

Her anger at the moment had come from the scene that played in front of her.

She had tried too hard to hold back, but she could no longer endure the insult and madness when her best friend got all protective over the man who did not belong to her.

Since finding out about the greatest betrayal, Anna should have been working on getting over it, but it wasn't easy because Sam was with her through thick and thin. So of course, she would feel very hurt that he gave up on their relationship for whatever reasons he had.

But as for her best friend, she didn't even know how to feel about her. Yes, she has been friends with Susan since childhood when her father was still in her life. That's how long she has known the former.

The reason, Anna felt more hurt towards Sam whom she met shortly before her accident than Susan whom she had known forever was because of the latter's character. So, being betrayed by her, Anna could only blame herself for making someone like her a good friend.

While it's true that Susan has been good to her in the past, it was dangerous to have that kind of person with a complexity issue as a best friend when she had watched her trample upon others because she felt she was on top of the whole world.

As Anna made her way towards the car park with burning eyes threatening to spill hot tears, she heard someone calling her name and quickened her steps without turning back.

Thankfully, the driver was in his seat and as soon as he saw her making her way towards the car with her head lowered, he stepped out of the car and hurried over to open the car for her.

Sam who saw all this going on, did not stop in his steps. The first thing that came to his mind when he saw Anna getting inside that expensive car was that she must have hired it online just to meet them.

If the car didn't look so expensive, he would have thought it was a cab.

Getting out of his thoughts, he reached the car in a few seconds and tried to open the car door of the side Anna was sitting in, but failed.

"Anna?" he called as he tried pulling on the door handle but failed to open it, so he decided to try looking into the car through the tinted mirror but could hardly see anything.

Sam got frustrated and started hitting the car window

"Anna? Anna, please don't go, I have something to explain to you," he shouted while banging the car window, afraid that she wouldn't be able to hear him.

Inside the car, Anna yanked her seatbelt and pulled it across her body to secure it in the lock before lifting her head. "Go," she said to the driver while ignoring the man banging her car window like his life depended on it.

'He should be lucky that I didn't give him a slap or pour the glass of beer over his head,' Anna thought to herself as she glanced at her now ex-boyfriend from the corner of her eyes.

Maybe, Sam wouldn't have dared to follow her if she had the time to think about disgracing him before leaving.

"Yes, Ma'am," the driver replied and turned on the car. As instructed, he put the car on drive and drove out of the parking lot with Sam attempting to chase after them on foot.

As they were leaving the car park, Anna turned her gaze towards her side of the window. Although Sam was still there, her gaze moved past him and landed on Susan who had just stepped out of the noodle store.

She only retreated her gaze when their car drove past her and out of the noodle store premises and hit the road. It was only then that she shut her eyes, choosing to put the past behind her like her heart wasn't hurting like hellfire.
