Chapter 3: Are you really using it right?

Kenvas prepared himself quickly, bringing the orb closer to him to guard himself. The source of the sound barreled towards him from the corridor. It was so fast that all he saw was a big black blur.

He desperately tried to dodge out of the way, but due to factors such as the frequent fights with maggots and the fatigue coming over his undeveloped body, along with the intense feeling of dread coming from this "thing". Before now, this dread was nothing special. The feeling of dread was like getting into a fight with your school bully.

Now, it was like being in front of a knife-wielding hobo that wants some drug money. Therefore, he was unable to react in time, taking a direct hit to his injured side, thus awakening the bleeding that had previously calmed down. Due to his light weight, despite the hit not being that strong, he was flung into the air.

After the hit landed, the figure of the monster was made known, if only for a brief moment. And it was just as he expected; it was a fly, or at least the closest thing to it.

With a bulky body reminiscent of beetle larvae, black-scaled wings, and a black carapace that shone under the light of the orb, the only orifice in sight was its gaping maw lined with jagged teeth.

"Agh fuck! You need to see a dentist, bro." He shouted. Whether it was from the pain or the gross teeth is unknown. But the feeling of dread was still there; his heart pounded and adrenaline traveled his bloodstream like a freight train, while tears threatened to spill from his eyes.

'No! What kind of man cries? I'm still a man, a manly man, a man with hair on my chest! He gathered his courage in this way.

Stumbling back up from the ground, he was able to move out of the way just when it started barreling towards him again. Kenvas did not get hit this time, but that reality was only a hair's breadth away. Which is why he gathered his bearings and readied his orb close to him once again.

He launched his orb at the black fly. Its speed, which was like that of a professional pitcher, missed. This was the first time that one of his attacks missed the target, but he was able to bring himself back quickly and willed his trusty orb to smash into the back of this black fly.

But the fly wasn't standing still either; its mouth was salivating at the thought of getting a bite of human. The black fly chased after Kenvas, speeding towards him like a pit bull would speed toward a child. But once again, Kenvas jumped out of the way.

Up to now, Kenvas hasn't been dodging in the most… graceful way, to say the least. Anytime he dodged, he flung himself out of harm's way. So, needless to say, he always fell on his ass.

Which is why, when the black fly revealed the hidden stinger protruding from his abdomen for its follow-up, he was unable to dodge the dark purple stinger. "Agh fuck! Why does this thing have a stinger?"He shouted.

*bang!*

His orb finally hit, the black fly's shrill screech resounding throughout the room and throwing the black fly off course. But Kenvas wasn't done yet; his eyes leaked with vengeance rather than tears, and he brought down his orb once again, smashing the monster into the ground. He didn't want to give it the chance to start flying again, so he did it again and again.

*bang! bang! crack!*

That's where it ended. Not because the fly died, no. But because the fly—debatable if it can still be called as such—still had legs, its six legs that seemed to be made of steel rather than chitin were intimidating enough, but its legs were lined with barbs, as though to say it won't let go when it catches its prey.

It stood up from the ground, enduring the incessant brutality, its newly formed crack leaking whatever lifeblood that was running through its body. Unleashing the equivalent of a battle, the black fly screeched. It rushed at Kenvas with fervor, its sharp, angular legs helping it skitter towards him.

Kenvas tried to stand up and get some distance, but whatever was on the stinger seemed to have made his leg numb and paralyzed. 'I can't move; my only choice is to kill it before I can get a piece of me first!'.

But Kenvas knew that his orb was too weak to kill it—at least, not kill it fast enough. Which is why Kenvas had an idea.

There was something he noticed about his orb; it was the fact that his orb moved to his will. This might seem simple, but if Kenvas was right, he was about to get a lot more power out of his trusty orb of holding. Thinking as such, Kenvas raised his hand. His orb was raised with it. He waited until the black fly was 3 feet away from him.

"Now!"

BOOM

When his hand descended, so too did his orb. And the power was like a thunderbolt. It was much more powerful than when he was simply moving it with his mind. Now he used his mind AND body to move his orb, crashing against the backside of the black fly and penetrating it.

But for the first time, he experienced mental fatigue from using his orb. This was clearly the right way to use it. At this point, the fly was already dead. It's body had a gaping hole, and it was leaking its black lifeblood everywhere; some even got on his face!

Kenvas was not done yet. He still had to deal with the stinger in his leg, and he could feel the numbness spreading. Who knew if it would reach his other organs too? "But I'm not going to fuck around and find out."

He says he found the proper way to use it… but im pretty sure it’s not supposed to be used as a weapon.
