Chapter 14: Construction and Discovery
Archie was currently seated in a carriage headed for Avalonia, his father having entrusted him with the task of bringing to life the new house drafts Archie had presented to him.
The carriage came to a halt after an hour, right behind the city walls, revealing a vast tent city sprawling across the entire barren plain.
These were the individuals at the bottom of the social hierarchy, poverty remained a significant concern on the island.
With the recent increase in food supplies, survival has become somewhat more manageable.
What was now essential was the implementation of the housing plan and the distribution of clean water.
Archie strolled over to one of the guards responsible for organizing the tent camp, as news of the crown prince's visit had already reached him.
"Your Highness, it's a pleasure to see you here, visiting the commoners in their plight," the guard greeted him, his eyes gleaming with enthusiasm.
Archie responded, "No problem, sir, I'm just a young kid strolling around."
"Not at all! This means a great deal to us!" The guard denied him, expressing his gratitude.
Archie inquired, "Have the supplies arrived yet?"
The guard replied, "Yes, your Highness, all the supplies are ready and prepared for use."
"Good, let's begin by outlining the expansion of the city and establishing the foundation." Archie gave the order.
With that, the earth mages accompanying him began excavating the foundations for millions of homes, aimed at providing shelter for the homeless.
The housing designs were reminiscent of the mixed-use apartments from his past life, featuring high density to ensure close proximity to the market.
Each room was designed to have a minimum size of 150 square meters. In his previous life, a report indicated that anything less than 75 square meters (807 square feet) could be deemed inhumane and detrimental to mental health due to the confined living space.
The buildings were equipped with insulation, water pipes, and a minimal amount of low-grade mana crystals to maintain adequate pressure for the distribution of water throughout the structure.
Plumbing was installed, including showers and toilets, making these the most modern homes in the world to date.
Numerous parks were scattered throughout the neighborhoods, offering ample green spaces for leisurely strolls.
The architectural style of these buildings followed Tudor architecture, giving them an attractive appearance.
Archie employed his creation magic to transform the wood into sturdy planks that could withstand high winds, particularly since their location is close to the ocean.
The housing project wasn't the only infrastructure project being undertaken, Archie also contributed to the production of materials for the Roman road path design, which aimed to connect the entire island, streamlining transportation and boosting domestic trade.
This eliminated the need for constructing large ports in each coastal city.
The Roman roads consisted of a 3-meter-deep trench and were 10 meters wide. At the base was compacted sand, topped by stone slabs set in cement and crushed stone set in cement, with the stones fused to form a long, smooth surface, instead of individual slabs, drains were added by the side of the road to reduce flooding and erosion.
Magic rendered any need for downgrading the design obsolete, ensuring the longevity of the roads exceeded that of conventional ones.
Despite being only 10 years old, Archie worked tirelessly, leaving passersby to wonder if this could be considered child labor.

Within the mountain range known as Mystic Peaks, deep within the island, the miners toiled diligently, working hard to extract the minerals essential for the colossal development project.
The head of this office sat in his study, reviewing the various mineral request lists.
"Sigh," grumbled the burly, bearded man, a weariness evident in his expression.
Glancing away from the documents spread across the table, he inquired, "George, what has come over His Majesty lately?"
George, his secretary, replied, "Sir, I'm not entirely certain. Since the disappearance of several high-ranking nobles, the royal family has been urgently pushing for improvements in the territory."
He added, "Lately, they have been expanding the agricultural sector, even finding a new type of seed that yields quicker harvests, which has made food supplies more affordable than ever."
"Now that it seems they've turned their focus to infrastructure development, his majesty's popularity with the commoners has skyrocketed."
His boss, Helmut, slumped in his chair, weighed down by the mounting workload.
Helmut remarked, "There are rumors it might have something to do with the crown prince's abilities. We are indeed fortunate to have someone like him. Given the scarcity of expert craftsmen on our island, we would never have achieved this feat without him."
George nodded in agreement, but as they were about to discuss the situation further, a knock on the door interrupted them.
"Boss, some of the miners have unearthed something deep within the mountain."
Intrigued by the discovery, Helmut decided to investigate it personally.
Helmut and George made their way to the entrance of the mountain, where they were met with a network of tunnels leading in various directions.
They followed the worker who had reported the discovery, venturing deep into the mountain. Hours passed, and eventually, they reached a team overseeing the situation.
The person in charge promptly stood and saluted, surprised by the presence of his boss.
Helmut quickly asked them, "What's the situation?"
"Boss, we have stumbled upon an unknown liquid in the mine's depths. It is purple and blue in color, resembling mana crystals," he reported.
George inquired, "Has it been determined whether it's safe or not?"
The worker replied, "We touched it, and the energy it emits is incredibly high. It appears to be similar to those expensive, high-grade mana crystals."
"Interesting. This wonderful island continues to yield miracles. We will report this discovery directly to the newly appointed Minister of Natural Resources. Hopefully, we'll all receive bonuses for this find," Helmut chuckled.
With that, a significant discovery with the potential to shake the world emerged, adding yet another reason for anyone to desire control over Avalon Island.
