Chapter 47: Chapter 46

"Can I shoot an arrow in his leg?"

Speedy asked, and for the first time since Dio knew him, Dio liked what he said.

"What!"

The officer shouted in fright and took a few steps back.

"Maybe it's better to take him somewhere to cool off, like a very exclusive island in the Atlantic Ocean."

Kid Flash suggested.

"As tempting as that sounds, let's just wait for the transport in a more distant place before I agree with your suggestions."

Aqualad said.

So, they all went to the rooftop of a building right across the street, where they could see all the chaos.

"Could someone explain why you all got so angry with that ugly man?"

Starfire asked.

She comes from a planet where her culture is much more open compared to theirs, so Dio tries to explain it in the best way for her.

"Apart from the fact that he spoke to us and looked at us as if we weren't human, he looked at you with desire."

"And is that wrong here on Earth?"

Starfire asked again.

"No, you definitely draw a lot of attention with your beauty, but he didn't look at you as if he admired your beauty. It was more like..."

"If you were an object to satisfy him."

Robin continued. He's taken a small bird-shaped dart from his belt and is staring straight at the idiot below.

"I see."

Starfire said this while also thinking about it.

"The transport has finally arrived."

Kid Flash said this and pointed to the other side of the street, where a large bus was approaching.

A group of guys in blue uniforms get off the bus and walk up to Mammoth.

But they can't move the frozen Mammoth, so Dio had to come down to thaw him out. As a precaution, Dio thawed only his torso and arms and left his legs frozen.

After that, he was handcuffed with the thickest handcuffs Dio had ever seen, dragged to the back of the truck, and went to Belle Reve prison, which is the place used to contain metahuman criminals.

"Mission accomplished. Now, how about celebrating with some pizza?"

Kid asked when Dio returned to the rooftop where everyone was.

"BOOOOOM!"

Then, the transport vehicle explodes into a fireball in the middle of the road.

"Kid!"

After a few seconds of shock, Robin screamed.

Kid Flash ran toward the flaming bus.

"Aqualad and Speedy, contain the flames."

Robin continued and gave them the orders.

Aqualad and Speedy jumped from one building to another in the direction of the fire.

Then Kid Flash reappears in front of Dio, Robin, and Starfire.

"Mammoth disappeared through the sewers."

Kid informs us.

"The three of us will pursue him. Kid Flash, you have to look for any other metahuman nearby; that explosion was a long-distance attack."

Robin explained, and they all moved.

Before entering the sewers, Dio saw Aqualad manipulating the water to put out the fire, and Speedy shot an arrow into the remaining flames of the vehicle.

Then they entered the sewer.

Dio always feels at home in dark places, but this was the first time he entered the underground part of a city, and he can't help but imagine his personal hell being like this.

Just imagine the dirtiest and smelliest place anyone can, and then add super-senses to it all.

Fortunately, the place was wide enough for the three of them.

There was a long corridor with a dirty water stream running in the center, and the walls were old.

It's likely that this place has never seen renovations since it was built.

"This place stinks worse than the Warlords' bathrooms."

Starfire spoke in a very low voice, with one hand holding her nose.

"I just checked the maps; this tunnel literally leads to any part of the city, even the ocean."

Robin said this and looked at his wrist monitor without seeming to mind the smell.

"I can't see any trace of Mammoth; he's definitely getting help."

Dio said this to everyone and looked at the ground with his night vision.

"You both can see in the dark?"

Robin asked with curiosity.

"Yes,"

Dio replied.

"I can't see in the dark, but I was trained to fight in it. If you want, I can light up my hands."

Starfire suggested.

"No, my mask has night vision."

They continued walking through the sewers, going further and further without finding any sign of their enemy.

"What cute creatures!"

Starfire then said, looking at a group of rats, which made both Robin and Dio scrunch up their faces.

"Starfire, your definition of cute is a bit off. When we get back home, I'll show you some Earth animals to fix that."

Dio told his friend with pity.

'What kind of creatures exist in her world for her to genuinely find a rat cute?'

After more time searching.

"That's enough."

Robin said.

"We've been walking for over an hour, and we've completely lost him."

Dio agreed with him.

"He didn't seem like an intelligent enemy to cover his tracks like this. Maybe he has an ally."

Starfire speculated out loud.

"I agree; let's get out of this stench."

Robin said while looking for the nearest exit.

They left the sewer through an exit just a few meters from where they were. Aqualad kindly brought the hovercar to them.

Robin took the wheel, and they went home.

On the way, Aqualad explained that they easily extinguished the fire, but none of the officers in the transport survived the explosion.

Kid Flash also couldn't find the person responsible for the attack.

With a bad mood for their first mission not ending in a complete victory, they arrived home, and all those who had spent more than an hour in the sewer rushed to the bathroom.

Koriand'r was in such a hurry that she started taking off her suit, threw it on the floor, and left her in just her underwear on her way to her room.

Unfortunately, Dio will have to teach her a bit of modesty later, as he is the mentally eldest member of this group.

After a long shower, they gathered on the couch, where they sat.

There was a group of people sitting in front of it. Even though everyone was sitting down and clean, no one spoke up, so Dio did.

"Has anyone reported what happened to the League?"

Dio asked.

"I just sent a written report to Batman; he'll get in touch with us when he has time."

Dick responded as he was sitting on the floor in front of him in a defeated pose.

"There's no need to be so down, Robin. The escape was completely unexpected."

Dio continued and tried to cheer him up.

"I agree with Dio, but even knowing that doesn't make me feel better."

Aqualad said this while sitting on the couch next to Dio.

"Even when you do everything right, there's a chance you might still lose. It's a common saying on my planet."

Koriand'r said on the other side and was drying her long red hair with a towel.

"But I really would like to avoid going into the sewers again, forever."

Koriand'r continued.

"Don't speak for yourselves; I don't need anyone's approval!"

Roy vented his anger, like always, by acting like a fool. He then left the group and went for the elevator.

"Roy, where are you going?"

Wally asked.

"To train!"

"He's the kind of warrior who likes to train to relieve his frustrations. I understand that."

Koriand'r nodded in agreement with Roy's actions.

It's always good to punch things and lift weights when you're mad, but Dio would rather think of a way to fix his mistakes.

"Instead of sitting here grumbling, why don't we go after him again?"

Dio suggested.

"I don't think the League would like us going after Mammoth on our own again."

Wally said.

"We don't need the League's permission to just look for him."

Dio tried suggesting the idea again.

And it seems to have worked.

Robin got up from the floor, calmed down, and said, "There is something very wrong with the robbery. I can look into it to try to find answers."

"Wasn't it just a simple robbery?"

Kaldur'ahm asked.

Robin put his hand on his chin and started walking back and forth in front of them.

"He broke into a jewelry store with hundreds of millions in gemstones and jewelry and only stole one item, an item that wasn't listed as the most valuable on the premises."

Robin told everyone.

Dio needs to make a mental note to get Dick to share more details. If he had known this earlier, he would have immediately tried to recover the stolen item.

It was a mistake on his part as well to not ask. They all understand this here, but they also understand that this isn't the best time to tell him.

"Is there a picture of the jewelry?"

Dop asked Dick, who is still pacing back and forth in the room.

"I'll look for one now."

Robin said, stopped his walking, and rushed to the elevator.

Wally and Kaldur'ahm stood up and followed him, and Dio joined them.

"Aren't you coming?"

Dio asked Koriand'r.

"I'm starving, and it looks like the investigation won't be over anytime soon, so I'm going to eat something first."

Koriand'r replied, stood up, and ran toward the kitchen.
