Chapter 57: Chapter 56

"I should have hit you harder."

Dio said to her.

"Yes, you should have."

Jinx replied while smiling as she stood up.

"THROW HER INTO THE WELL!"

There is even more pressure when Brother Blood yells, and everyone's attention is drawn to the front, where the cultists already have the prisonerin front of the well, and Lazarus is bubbling with excitement.

Dio was about to risk using the shadow movement to get to them and save her when the Mammot grabbed him by the neck and lifted him off the ground.

Dio got distracted.

Dio ignored Mammoth and looked at the horror show about to begin in front of him.

Brother Blood is in the center of the stage with a book in one hand and the amulet shining brightly in the other, and the cultists are raising the prisoner above their heads to throw her into water.

"THROW HER!"

Brother shouted again with joy.

"BOOM!"

But there's an explosion on the wall next to where the woman and the cultists were.

The small rock fragments that flew against them were enough to make them fall to the ground, which saved the prisoner.

After a while, a voice from the dust was something familiar.

"Sorry for the delay, guys, but these tunnels are more complicated than we thought."

Robin said while revealing himself from the dust, with the rest of them behind him and all of them in their hero suits.

"It's about time!"

Speedy yelled in response and fired an arrow into Mammoth's arm. The arrow explodes—a small explosion strong enough to make him let Dio go.

Dio heard Robin's voice as he moved away.

"Starfire and Aqualad, help them."

Starfire flew with her hair, surrounded by pure energy, and punched Mammoth in the face, which sent him flying to the other side of the chamber.

"The stain made me a little angry."

Starfire said while looking at him and smiling.

"No need to explain."

Dio said and defended against another attack from Jinx.

"Kid Flash, take the prisoner and get her out of here."

Robin continued to give orders.

"I'm on it"

Kid Flash replied while already running toward the hostage on the ground, picking her up and running in their direction.

When he got to the stairs that led to the door where they were and tried to leave, his body hit an invisible wall that stood between the door and the exit.

"What was that?"

Kid Flash shouted as he got up from the ground.

"Magic!"

Aqualad replied while entering the fight and hitting Mammoth with a water whip.

Speedy and Dio had no problem entering the room, so the spell must only prevent someone from fleeing or be more likely to prevent the hostage from escaping.

"Kid, break the chains!"

Dio shouted to him.

There was nothing with her except the white dress and the veil covering her entire body, apart from the chains, which could be enchanted.

Dio saw Kid crouch down on the ground and try to force the chains.

When he couldn't, he vibrated his hand and tried to cut them, but there was still no effect.

"I can't break this thing!"

Kid shouted to them after getting up.

"Kírix, let Kid and the others deal with the fight, break the darn chains, and get her out of here."

While fighting Brother Blood, Robin yelled and tried to steal the amulet back.

As a person who doesn't know much about mystical forces, Dio has to give him credit for figuring out why he asked him to free the hostage.

"Robin, the Church members are heading towards Kírix."

Dio heard Starfire's voice shouting, and he saw her flying and firing her blasts below.

"Kid Flash!"

Robin shouted, a bit more tired.

So Dio ignored the battle and focused all his attention on the chain around her body.

"Stop moving, or I won't be able to free you."

Dio told her.

The woman struggles a few more times and finally stands still, which allows him to examine the chain.

This one is definitely a magical artifact, or rather, an enchanted item. The one that was holding her up on the ceiling was not.

The entire steel of the chain is inscribed with small runes.

Dio managed to understand ten of them, the most basic ones. Dio doesn't deal with enchantments very often because they're hard to use.

He will definitely be focusing on them more in the future because giving things or beings magical abilities is very useful.

Dio couldn't break the chain with his sword or brute force; a piece like this surely has some security measure against that.

The prisoner might get hurt because of it, and he didn't know how to bypass what's written on the chain, so let's trick the enchantments.

The enchantment is working by using the captured person's energy.

It might have security measures against brute force, but defenses against other spells are much more advanced, as spells are highly varied.

Of course, an experienced sorcerer can protect the chain against the most commonly used spells to destroy enchantments, but Dio's spells are known to no one except him and Zatanna, who helped him create some of them.

For the rest of the day, Dio won't be able to use magic, even if this works.

Nevertheless, Dio touched the chain and spoke aloud.

"Επικαλούμαι τη Βασιλιά του Βασιλιά Λήθ!"

"I Summon the Forgetfulness of King Lethe!"

A milky aura envelops the chain, and then it is "forgotten."

Dio pulled it from her body as if the metal had become intangible, which is what happened since he "erased" its existence using the part of forgetting.

It wasn't easy; denying reality in this way was only possible because the object was small, and he could only maintain it for a second, but it was enough to free her.

"I did it!"

Dio exclaimed happily about his achievement, only to be thrown to the ground below by an invisible force.

Dio stood up and looked at the spot where he had been thrown.

A few meters above him, the woman stood up, and her white outfit started to change. It turns into a purple cape with a hood.

The clothing on her body turns black, more like a bathing suit, covering her body and arms while leaving her long legs exposed.

Then, the woman begins to levitate, and the light around her is consumed by the darkness emanating from her body.

It's not the same darkness he could control; hers has a certain glow, unlike Dio's, which is like a pitch-black void.

This darkness expanded and took the form of a huge raven with its head held high, spreading its wings in all their glory.

"YOU ARE GOING TO SACRIFICE ME!"

Raven shouted, and her hood was lowered, which revealed her face.

She is about the same age as them. She has pale skin, short black hair, blue eyes, and a red mark in the middle of her forehead.

It's Trigon's daughter, Raven, and she is very angry.
