Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Part-Time Legal Advisor

Based on his experience in the Benevolence Society, Antonio earnestly put forward his opinion.

"To ensure the continued development of the Benevolence Society and Oak Tree Environmental Technology Company, I believe a legal advisor is essential, and Columbia University's law program is among the top in the United States."

He was now an employee of Oak Tree Environmental Technology Company, with a position as an assistant to the chairman.

It didn't seem much different from his previous position at the Emerald Dream.

But it sounded more impressive when spoken out loud, and his classmates were envious—especially since he hadn't graduated yet!

That's the power of having connections.

Antonio was clearly putting in his best effort in this matter.

"Speaking of which, I happen to know a law student who gained admission with outstanding grades. It's quite coincidental that during the start of the semester, he was subjected to a hazing ritual by the 'seniors' of our department, just like I was back then. But I managed to avoid it with your advice, whereas he wasn't so lucky."

At this point, a hint of anger flashed across Antonio's face.

"Getting a dorm in Columbia is quite difficult. This law student is blind and has exceptional grades, so he received a special approval. But it obviously didn't sit well with certain people, and he was subjected to a lot of mistreatment.

I happened to pass by the area, and even though we're not from the same department, as an alumnus, I hurried to rescue him—uh, actually, he seems a bit older than me."

"A blind person?"

Oaks felt that something was a bit strange.

"You, with your limited abilities, managed to save someone... What's his name?"

"Matt Murdock, hailing from the notorious Hell's Kitchen neighborhood... We had a chat, and I think he's a good person."

As Antonio spoke, he couldn't help but envy as he rubbed his chin.

"Damn it... That guy is all muscle. I think he could take down five of me, but even so, he didn't put up any resistance."

"..."

Well, Matt Murdock is still a law student, after all.

And Antonio's impression might be a bit off. That person could easily handle a dozen of him.

"Alright, let him come tomorrow. If he was able to get into Columbia Law School with excellent grades, there's no problem for him to be a legal advisor here."

And so, the matter was settled.

The next day, Oaks met the blind law student, Matt Murdock.

Matt Murdock sat somewhat reservedly on the sofa. Since he entered the Benevolence Society headquarters, his heightened senses allowed him to perceive a more detailed world than ordinary people—the air here was far more than just fresh.

The feedback from his superhuman senses gave him a sense of nature and purity, completely opposite to the chaos of the city. The influences of noise and dust particles were greatly diminished.

He felt like he was starting to like this place.

When Oaks arrived, Matt immediately sensed his presence.

"Welcome to the Benevolence Society, Mr. Murdock. I'm Oaks Woods, Antonio's boss, the chairman, and landlord."

Matt noticed that Oaks didn't sit down directly but walked over and gently shook his right hand, lightly pressing his shoulder to signal him that there was no need to stand up. He immediately felt a slight goodwill.

"Apologies, Mr. Oaks. My eyes..."

Matt pointed to his sunglasses and nodded apologetically.

"But it doesn't affect my ability to work."

"Your grades speak for themselves. Don't worry, if you need any help, just let me or Antonio know."

Oaks sat down on the sofa and carefully observed the slightly nervous Matt. He smiled slightly and picked up the coffee pot on the table.

"Don't be so tense. Would you like a cup of coffee?"

"Uh, thank you."

Matt couldn't help but swallow his saliva. Having grown up in a place like Hell's Kitchen, he had never smelled such fragrant coffee, let alone tasted it.

"Let's get down to business then."

Matt took a few sips of coffee, and Oaks officially began the interview process.

"Antonio should have already told you that the Benevolence Society is a nonprofit organization. However, as an advisor, even though it's part-time, we won't skimp on your salary.

Additionally, since the Benevolence Society is still in its early stages, there is currently no one responsible for legal matters. Therefore, we need to establish an effective legal memorandum.

After all, our philanthropic work may touch upon the interests of... many people.

In other words, the workload in the initial stage may be significant, but I don't want it to affect your studies. Are you confident in handling this pressure?"

"Yes, Chairman Oaks, I am confident."

Matt didn't hesitate at all and had a determined expression.

"I have confidence in facing this challenge, and for me, it's a rare and excellent opportunity. I will definitely do a great job!"

Pausing for a moment, he self-deprecatingly pointed to his sunglasses again.

"After all, I've endured greater pressure and difficulties. The issue of workload is nothing to me."

Oaks nodded in satisfaction. Indeed, if we talk about diligence, Matt as a lawyer during the day and as the vigilante Daredevil at night is undoubtedly worthy of the title.

By the way, doesn't he need to sleep?

Of course, that's something that happened after he graduated from college. The current Matt Murdock is still a 24-year-old student.

Don't assume that entering Columbia at 24 is considered old.

Columbia Law School is a graduate program.

"Speaking of which, we're about the same age, and my mother also comes from Ireland."

After discussing work pressure, Oaks became interested in the Irish-American future superhero.

"If you're not comfortable living in the school dormitory, you can live here. Although it's a bit far, I can provide you with a travel allowance, or you can hitch a ride with Antonio to school—because I heard that you encountered some..."

"Thank you, Mr. Oaks, but it's not necessary."

Matt quickly waved his hand at the offer.

"Having this part-time opportunity has already helped me a great deal... And I get along well with my roommate."

Matt smiled. He was genuinely grateful to Antonio, and his superhuman senses could clearly perceive that Antonio was indeed just an ordinary person.

Compared to someone like him with special abilities, the fact that a foreign exchange student like Antonio willingly stepped forward to help him was even more commendable.

However, looking at Chairman Oaks in front of him, Matt began to doubt his own superhuman senses for the first time.

Because in his perception, aside from one position and outline, he couldn't perceive any other information about Oaks' body!

But thinking about the unique nature of the Benevolence Society headquarters, he reassured himself.

Scientists are always mysterious.

"So, Mr. Murdock..."

"Mr. Oaks, you can call me Matt."

"Alright, Matt. Welcome to the Benevolence Society. From today onwards, you are our legal advisor. Come, let me introduce you to the others."

"It's an honor."
