Chapter 74: Chapter 74: Druid and Hunter

Dr. Erik Selvig, an outstanding astrophysicist, had previously taught at the same school as Dr. Bruce Banner, an authority in the field of gamma rays. The two of them knew each other.

However, they weren't necessarily close.

So, this was just another excuse concocted by Nick Fury to recruit able-bodied individuals.

But a hammer that continuously emitted gamma rays was simply too tempting for Dr. Banner to resist.

"Oaks? You know, I have to go..."

"Doctor, it's your choice whether to go or not. I won't stop you... But you'll definitely have to take leave, and your salary for these days will be deducted."

Oaks emphasized the company's management system to Dr. Banner in a serious tone.

"Although I'm going too, this isn't an official business trip. However, our food and accommodation will be arranged by S.H.I.E.L.D., so we don't have to worry about that."

Banner gave an okay gesture with a smirk, and Oaks turned to look at Nick Fury, who was grinning.

"Can you believe this stingy Director doesn't even want to provide transportation? He actually wants us to drive there in a smart car!"

"It's alright, I can drive."

Banner's eyes lit up as he rubbed his hands together, eager to give it a try.

"And after talking with Melinda for a while last time, I feel like I have a new understanding of driving a motor vehicle—"

"..."

Oaks pointed at Nick Fury, who had a smug expression on his face.

"Look at what your subordinate has turned Dr. Banner into..."

"I think it's great that Dr. Banner is willing to challenge himself, isn't it, Mr. Teddy Bear?"

Nick Fury shrugged, showing his interest in the nickname Tony gave to Oaks.

"Young people should have diverse development. I know someone who can fly better than you... She's very proficient with all kinds of transportation, and she doesn't mind flying herself."

"Well, let Dr. Banner do whatever he wants..."

Oaks helplessly waved his hand. How could he fly? Captain Marvel could fly, after all, she came from a background of piloting fighter jets.

"I'll fly there myself!"

Nick Fury gave a knowing look, nodded at Banner, and said:

"So, Dr. Banner, prepare yourself. A plane will come to pick you up in half an hour."

"?!?!"

Oaks widened his eyes and wanted to slap this damn bald guy out:

"You actually have a plane?!"

"Of course, S.H.I.E.L.D. has planes, Mach 5."

Nick Fury made a "five" gesture and shook it in front of Oaks' face.

"You said you would fly there yourself."

"... You're too petty!"

"There are two excellent Level 7 agents over there—yes, Coulson got promoted, and he's in charge. Don't waste time. As the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. I'm very busy, and there aren't many people I personally invite."

Fury had an expression of "You should be grateful," turned around, opened the office door, and walked out.

"Oh, and remember to bring me a few boxes of filters later, just give them to Melinda."

"A few boxes?! Are you going to eat them?!"

Oaks spat and reluctantly handed the tablet to Banner.

"That bastard... Well, I'll go first. Doctor, are you okay on your own?"

"No problem! To be honest, I can't wait anymore—the plane is just too slow!"

Banner rubbed his chin thoughtfully and shifted his gaze to Oaks, who shivered.

"Oaks, don't you consider getting a bigger bird form? I can be in charge of developing protective gear..."

"Are you dreaming or what!"

...

New Mexico, temporary S.H.I.E.L.D. camp.

"Welcome, Consultant Oaks. We have been waiting for you."

Agent Coulson, wearing a trustworthy smile, came to greet Oaks. He was now the highest-ranking officer here.

However, he had only received the news about Oaks coming half an hour ago.

Because Oaks flew here at Mach 5 speed.

"Long time no see, Coulson... Congratulations on the promotion and raise."

Was it because of Tony's incident that Coulson was promoted to Level 7?

"Thank you, Consultant Oaks. But I feel like it's been a long time since I've been here."

Coulson smiled and gestured around.

"An open environment always makes time feel slow."

"Haha, actually, this place is a top-notch stargazing spot, a tourist attraction!"

Oaks followed Coulson to the makeshift office. It was entirely made of prefabricated parts, simple but not shabby.

He could clearly feel that his perception of cosmic energy was stronger here in the open New Mexico than in the city.

If he practiced balance spells here, the effect should be quite good.

Originally, Oaks' plan was to wait for S.H.I.E.L.D. to bring back the Destroyer before studying it, trying to avoid getting involved with Asgard as much as possible.

But since Nick Fury wanted Banner to come here as well, they might as well solve everything here.

Moreover, being away from the New York Sanctum he could act more covertly and the cover of the Destroyer's energy fluctuations might make things easier.

"Dr. Banner should be arriving soon. There will be a dedicated plane for transportation. Tsk tsk."

"...Indeed, Dr. Banner is something else. We both came here by car, without such treatment."

Coulson turned around with a strange expression and introduced the short-haired man standing in front of the monitoring station, watching the video footage with his arms crossed.

"This is Agent Barton, codenamed Hawkeye."

Hawkeye, Clint Barton, turned his head upon hearing the introduction. When his sharp eyes caught sight of Oaks' striking red hair, a smile appeared on his face. He walked over and extended his hand to him.

"Heard a lot about you, Consultant Oaks... Natasha mentioned you."

"Is that so? We've only met... once or twice."

Oaks smiled and shook hands with Barton, his gaze was somewhat subtle.

The gaze of a druid towards a hunter was always subtle.

This is the strongest hunter he currently knew.

But fortunately, this guy was a Marksman Hunter who chose the Lone Wolf talent.

Although Barton noticed Oaks's subtle gaze, he didn't think much of it. He assumed it was because they were meeting for the first time and the curiosity was natural.

He nodded to Coulson. "Do you need me to join?"

"No need," Coulson smiled. "I'll take Consultant Oaks for a tour. Your mission remains the same."

"Understood."

Oaks looked surprised and glanced at Coulson.

"Hey! Both Level 7 agents, Coulson, you can handle it!"

"Agent levels represent clearance levels, not hierarchical positions."

Returning to the surveillance monitor, Barton chuckled at the remark.

"Coulson is in charge here. Even if you're a Level 8 agent, you still take orders from him."

"I see."

Oaks nodded in understanding, and his gaze drifted to the monitor in front of Barton.

"Coulson, show me... that hammer."
