Chapter 15: Chapter 3.2

Sae: So, let's explain the additional rules.

Ike: Additional rules? Is there still more?

Sae: In short, you will be granted permission to roam freely, but several sites will be designated in each part of the island. These sites will be referred to simply as "Possession Rights," and the class that possesses them will have the right to exercise their rights there. How to use them is up to the class that obtains that right. However, the possession right is valid for only 8 hours from the moment it takes effect, after which the right is automatically revoked. This means that each time, you gain the right to acquire another class. And you can earn a bonus point each time you occupy a place once. Still, this single point is provisional and cannot be used during the test. Therefore, it will only be placed and added at the end of the exam. Because the school constantly monitors the situation, there's no room for fraud regarding this rule. It's better to pay attention to this last point.

Ike: Well then, isn't that important? It's fantastic to get to the site. Let's keep it all to ourselves!!!

Sooner than later, Ike started asking Yamauchi and others to go scout.

This is also written in the manual in great detail. And various devices indicating possession rights were always prepared near the sites.

Sae: I understand you're impatient, but this rule carries a great risk. It's about utilizing that risk, taking it into consideration, and verifying it. Everything is written in the manual, including that risk.

As suggested by Chabashira-sensei, the manual was written to clarify the special rules and additional rules, all organized in bullet points.

- An exclusive identification card is required to occupy a site.

- You will earn 1 point for each occupation. Occupied sites can be used freely.

- If you use a site occupied by another class without permission, you'll receive a penalty of 50 points.

- The use of identification cards is restricted to those who become leaders.

- Leaders cannot be changed without justified reasons.

On the seventh and final day, during roll call, you have the right to guess another class's leader. Additionally, classes whose leader is discovered will lose all extra points accumulated up to that point.

Sae: Without exception, all of you will decide on a person who will be the leader. However, you have the freedom to participate or not. If you're not greedy and ambitious, you won't be recognized as a leader and will probably end quickly. When the leader is decided, please report it. We will provide an identification card stamped with the leader's name. You have a time limit, until today's roll call. If it's not decided by that time, we will decide at our own discretion. That's all.

Hirata: There will be time later to think about who to choose as a leader. But first, where should we set up the base camp? Whether it's on the beach or in the forest... we must think carefully about the location.

Attached to the manual was a simple map of the island. Only the size and shape of the island were shown.

Ike: It's good to have a place near the ship where all the teachers are, right?

Hirata: No, don't be too sure. As I assume, there are few places, so you won't find anything nearby. If there's no water, there's no food either. Building a base here means it might end up being the farthest position from where we'll obtain resources. To make matters worse, during the day, the sunlight is very strong and the environment is harsh. On the other hand, there also seems to be a risk of going too deep into the forest.

Sudou: More importantly, I need a bathroom. I can't hold it any longer.

Sudou took the simplified toilet assembled by Chabashira-sensei. We set up the tent, placed it a short distance away, and then went inside. Shinohara and others were watching the situation while sitting closely together. Chabashira-sensei took a step back. She probably won't participate in this anymore, and now we can do whatever we want.

Shinohara: Hey, Hirata-kun, Katagiri-kun. Isn't it better to decide beforehand what to do about the toilet?

Soon enough, things like the toilet will be necessary for other students too. The girls' thinking is reasonable.

—We could decide, but shouldn't we grin and bear it for now?

Yuuichi: No, not necessarily. The manual states that temporary bathrooms can also be purchased with points and then installed.

Upon hearing these words, Shinohara and the others gathered around him all at once and looked at the manual. The functions of a makeshift toilet seemed to be impeccable, and seeing the reference images, it compares favorably to the toilet at home because it uses water. If that's the case, the girls will give their consent.

—Absolutely not! I mean, I don't like that either... Even that, for me, it's impossible! Many girls, encouraged by Shinohara's comments, agreed with that sentiment. For the girls, the presence of toilets might be even more important than food and water. They communicated well enough to show their intention not to budge an inch from there.

Ike: Wait, hold on a minute. You want to spend 20 points? Just to go to the bathroom?

Reacting sharply, Ike was against it and wanted to save points. Just like other guys who could endure the cardboard box toilet. It probably means we should refrain from unnecessary spending as much as possible.

Ike: About the bathroom, sure, it's fine. But we also have this. Look! We have plenty of time to use points. It's a bad idea not to save points now.

Shinohara: You can't decide, because it's Hirata-kun who will gather all the opinions and decide. Hey, Hirata-kun.

Ignoring Ike, Shinohara pleaded with Hirata to buy a temporary toilet.

Hirata: That's right... to at least have a decent toilet for the girls would definitely be...

Ike: You're free to gather opinions, but you can't decide arbitrarily.

Ike looked at Hirata, who wanted to approve the toilet purchase, and quickly stopped him.

Shinohara: AH, STOP BOTHERING PEOPLE. Karuizawa-san, say something. We have the temporary bathrooms right here.

Shinohara called on Karuizawa, the representative of the girls, seeking her consent.

Karuizawa looked at me for a second, and I responded with a slight nod.

Karuizawa: I understand that we need the points, but I don't think all of us can bear using that bathroom... We should allow ourselves to spend at least 20 points!!!!

Girls: YES!!!!

Yukimura suddenly joined the dispute between Ike and Shinohara.

Yukimura: I don't understand the girls' feelings of wanting a temporary bathroom. However, I don't accept that we use points indiscriminately and object arbitrarily to our opinions. If you want a temporary bathroom, I'd like to at least make the decision after gathering the majority of votes.

Pushing his glasses up his nose, he let out his frustration in a stern voice.

Shinohara: Well... I'm just making a natural request as a girl. The boys should take care of their own matters.

Yukimura: A natural request? Taking care of our own matters? That's impossible to understand. Isn't that simply discrimination?

—WHAT! Discrimin-

How annoying, I can't decide who I despise more, the arrogant and useless Yukimura or the simply foolish Shinohara.

Yuuichi: Everyone, quiet down now! - immediately, everyone fell silent and looked at me attentively - I understand both of your opinions, so I'll give you my opinion... One of the most important points of the test is to maintain physical and mental health in these circumstances so that you don't drop out of the test. I believe that spending 20 points is permissible if more than half of the class needs it.

Yukimura: I suppose that's okay...

Girls: Thank you, Katagiri-kun!!!

—————————

Classmates began to shout occasionally due to the heat, and it seemed that Hirata also felt the difficulty of setting up a base camp outside on a beach. If this were a genuine camp, we could set up sun umbrellas and a grass-covered tent, have fun swimming in the sea, shield ourselves from the sun as much as we wanted, but in this condition, even that was difficult.

Hirata: Shall we move until we find a shaded spot? We can also talk as we move.

Hirata took the lead and started carrying the tent. The other boys moved as well.

— By the way... Did Sudou clean that toilet properly?

A girl anxiously pointed at the toilet.

Someone said that when Sudou came out after doing his business, he had empty hands. At least within that...

The sun was scorching the abandoned toilet. The inside of the tent was certainly like a steam room.

—-------------------

Walking from the coast to solid ground, a large forest appeared, and one of the boys anxiously looked at the forest.

— Is it okay to enter this large forest? Could we get lost? I can't see anything inside.

That's why we have to implement some rules, and that's why our watches are equipped with the emergency button. We have to cooperate closely. If we don't collaborate, we'll spend our points like water, and I fear we'll end up with no points left.

—Hey, Karuizawa! Hirata and Katagiri are really amazing! They're even willing to do all the things that others won't.

—Pfff! But of course! Asking the other boys for help would make us look so pitiful, just leave it all to them!

Hirata and I were enthusiastically working to transport the tent, walking alongside Karuizawa's group, as they looked at us with great admiration.

On the girls' side, Horikita, having chosen to be isolated, followed the group at the back of the line, slow and silent.

—------------------------

Shortly after, Hirata and the others stopped in a single line.

Hirata: Here we can block the sunlight, and we don't have to worry about anyone nearby hearing us.

Hirata and the others stopped walking as they entered the forest a bit and started talking again. Some of the boys gathered and began debating in a clash of ideas they might have thought of on their way here.

Hirata: Teacher, if we want a temporary bathroom, is it possible to decide on the installation site in detail?

Sae: If it's not on impossible terrain, then anywhere is fine. You can also relocate it after installation, but in that case, it will take time. It weighs more than 100 kilograms. Quite a job.

Hirata sighed with relief now that one problem had been resolved.

Hirata: Next is... We've heard opinions before, but I think we should also explore to decide on the base camp. The point consumption depends largely on where we settle.

Hirata responded not out of impatience, but to avoid the class's reaction. Soon, we recruited volunteers, but as expected, no more than two guys came forward. There aren't many people who have treaded a forest like this. It's understandable.

Hirata: I wonder if anyone among us is familiar with survival.

Hirata asked, clinging to a ray of hope. In times like these, there's only one person you can count on. He looked back at his classmates, but no one showed an attitude of volunteering.

Kushida: Um, I'll go if that's okay.

It was Kushida who volunteered to break the deadlock if no one else wanted to participate. Seeing her step up, the guys who had flatly refused to participate lit up and began showing their willingness to volunteer. I suppose there were students who were motivated to do Kushida a favor, as well as students who felt embarrassed to let the girl take the initiative.

Although if I have to point something out...

Ayanokouji also raised his hand.

Ayanokouji is truly an interesting person, the way he manipulated Horikita so discreetly was quite clever.

But I don't think he's at my level and if for some reason he is...

.

.

.

.

.

I'll have to crush him before he gets better

[😑?Question: Would you prefer I present Yuuichi's plans linearly or use his conversation with Horikita to show it in retrospect?]
