Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Awakening
'This is it' thought Cao Guang as head his way up to the Awakening stone. There different elements in this and they can be classified into elementary magic, black magic, whitemagic and dimensional magic in order of rarity. The latter being so rare was also because mages stood a chance after reaching the advanced level usually.
Cao Guang placed his on the stone and guided his thoughts and his energy into his Inner consciousness as he was told. Magic was activated by guiding stars in one's own consciousness. At the primary level there would be seven stars and together they were called a single Star path and seven Star Paths made up a Star Pattern at the intermediate level.
Primary=7 stars = Star Orbit
Intermediate=49 stars=7 Star Orbits= Star Pattern
He waited anxiously as he focused and suddenly in midst of darkness that was his consciousness he saw seven twinkling colourless stars. As a colourless halo spread around the awakening Xue Musheng was surprised 'This ... Summoning element, this is first time I seen dimensional magic being awakened at the primary level, no this might be a first in the school's history'
" Cao Guang you have awakened the summoning element" said Xue Musheng with astonishment on his face. However, Cao Guang was too enthused probably because he need sort ou information in his head and his classmates gasped around him astonishment.
" Is that good or bad" asked one ignorant classmate to Xue Musheng as the others stifled their laughter at him.
"Well there is no straight forward answer but at the lower levels elemental magic is preferred because it is easier to develop and resources needed for the summoning element is huge, but there are advantages as well" said Xue Musheng in reply.
" The basic spell of the summoning element can summon a creature that the mage has a contract with from the summoning plane and have it fight for you but the resources needed to strengthen the beast are rare generally Summoners focus on their contracted beasts and such. More of this will be covered later now next Mu Feng"
Internally Xue Musheng could not help be ecstatic, he had a student with the summoning element, he wanted to see how the other teachers could even match him even if they had someone awaken the lightning element. Even still Mu Feng from the Mu branch was also in his class.
Mu Feng placed his hands on the awakening stone and a few moments later a white magic light spread around the awakening stone. He had awakened the Ice element that the Mu family was known for but he wasn't happy. He knew that most resources of the class might go to Cao Guang.
Cao Guang was not peaceful either he had calmed himself to focus on Xue Musheng's words only to realise that he probably knew more about the summoning element than his teacher. ' The summoning element needs a lot of patience, resources and knowledge, this makes things easier and harder but my talent'.
His thoughts were broken by Xue Musheng's words.
"Earth element"
This was awakened by Gao Xuan. Cao Guang recognised him from the orphanage, he was from the same orphanage as him. Cao Guang even had the idea of making him his 'little brother'. 'Elements aren't necessarily weaker than the other. Light and water are despised at the primary level but they are impressive at higher levels as well as cheaper to develop at the lower levels. If I am not wrong the primary spell for the earth element is Earth wave a movement spell'.
"Fire element"

"Light"
The class continued as students awakened their elements. Xue Musheng could not be any happier he a Fire element mage on top of Summoning element and Ice element of Mu Feng. His first place and bonus was secure.
In the cafeteria,
Cao Guang sat down opposite to Gao Xuan as he said " You are not bad" .
"What do you mean" said Gao Xuan with indifference.
"No need to pretend with me, I think that you awakened an Innate Ability as well"
"You've awakened one as well" said Gao Xuan before regretting his words.
"Yep, I call it Innate Contract Strengthening, but the ability is a bit broad"
"Should you be saying that to me" replied Gao Xuan.
" I believe we can help each other. Being a great mage requires large amount of resources, talent and knowledge. Yes the school provides some but it is not much, only a start and we have only three options"
"Which one are you leaning towards" asked Gao Xuan as if his decision was made.
" The army" said Cao Guang as he looked Gao Xuan in the eyes.
" Great to make your acquaintance as well".
Yes Cao Guang had made his mind to join the army for a number of reasons. As an orphan and without any resources his options were limited and the scholarship he received would only cover him till he graduated from high school.
His three options were of being a Hunter, joining a family or a clan and the army. Of course even if one decided to be a hunter one could still join a reputed University and gain resources from them as well. But Universities were a no go from the clan route as clans preferred to have control over external members. The army would restrict his actions but as a 'free man' with a great talent he could take the elite path in the army. But he had other thoughts as well.
For one Zhan Kong was here as he punished by his family for his actions regarding Qin Yu'er. This guy is half a disciple of General Hua, a Forbidden Curse mage or atleast one the future a Forbidden Curse mage. Second he was not a disciplined person in his previous life and he thought he lacked the courage or discipline to be a mage.
A mage had to cultivate for hours on end and strengthen himself. Every element had their own mana, better the cultivation more mana and more spells could be unleashed. This was true for every level. Not including the killing aspect. As a mage killing demon beasts or even criminal mages were an integral part of life. But Cao Guang was not a killer. What better way to hone yourself than the army.
Besides he hoped to use Zhan Kong's connections to make contact with Pang Lai.
He believed only Pang Lai was suitable to be his teacher in the whole country. There had yet to be a Forbidden Curse level summoner in his history and in a sense it was understandable as well. A Forbidden Curse Summouner could summon an Emperor using Life Contract spell.
How insane was that. Demon beasts were stronger than humans individually. Rulers needed a team of Super mages or a Super mage of a higher level to kill it. As for emperors the difficulty was even higher. Pang Lai was one of three half step Forbidden Mages of the Summoning element in the world.
And his Innate talent was pretty good was as well.
"So what's your talent" asked Cao Guang.
"Element Strengthening, my earth element starts with 1.5 multiplier. Isn't it cool" said Gao Xuan with a proud look.
Element Strengthening was common among Innate talents but 1.5 that was rare. The spells released by mages were same at the same level. They would be equally strong, the only difference between mages would be combat ability or equipment. One way to strengthen element where a soul seed. Soul seeds existed in nature for element magic only.
They were divided into Spirit grade seeds, Soul grade seeds and Heaven grade seeds.
Only Heaven grade seeds would only be accepted twenty years into the future.
A spirit grade seed boosted a mage's magic from 1.5 to 3, soul grades boosted from 4 to 6 and Heaven grade ranged from 8 to 12. But innate strengthening was different they could multiplied with soul seeds. If Gao Xuan got a top notch soul grade seed then the combined would be 6 times 1.5 = 9.
Moreover if one of Cao Guang's plan was successful it would be even higher. Same type of energy was added and different types of energy were multiplied when it came soul seeds magic. If a person had two top notch soul seeds their multiplier would be 12. If a person had a innate strengthening of 2 and a top notch soul seed then their multiplier would also be 12.
The Parthenon had a blessing spell to improve this. But it could only be used once on a person and this spell could only be cast by the Hall Mother or the Godess. Besides some equipment could strengthen a type of magic as well.
A/n : In this version Mu Ningxue, Gao Xuan and Wu Ku all have Innate Soul grade seeds while Qin Yu'er had an Innate Heaven grade seed.
