Chapter 30: This is alchemy

Chapter 28 – This is alchemy

The next day, Draco woke up like any other day. After getting ready, he, Goyle, and Crabbe went to the Great Hall for their breakfast. However, Draco noticed something strange.

While walking through the corridors, some people looked at him with... unfriendly glances, and the worst part was that a significant portion of those looks came from Slytherin members.

He was a bit confused at first; however, when he reached the Great Hall, it seemed he understood what had happened. At the table, Simon was calmly eating his breakfast, and upon seeing Draco enter, he waved slightly with a smile on his face.

Seeing him, Draco paused a bit before walking to the table. If Simon was there, it meant he had managed to escape Filch, and the worst part was that he would undoubtedly spread the word that Draco, an honored pure-blood from the Malfoy family, fled from a duel he himself proposed.

It was a petty revenge, but even Simon would get annoyed receiving sarcastic comments and looks all the time.

So why not say that the so-called pure-bloods were nothing more than cowards afraid of a simple Muggle-born? Of course, if he had been caught, it could have been different.

Draco could argue that Filch appeared or something similar, and due to his own incompetence, Simon got caught. But now that was impossible. Furthermore, Simon made a point to mention that Harry had also been challenged, which left Malfoy a bit unfavorably viewed by most students.

Of course, this wouldn't last more than a few days. Whether he liked it or not, the influence of Draco's family was still significant in the current British wizarding world, be it political or economic influence; the current Malfoys were not a family hiding in the future; they still had a lot of power.

Moreover, many pure-blood families, like the Crabbes and Goyles, were their allies and relied on their support. So even if someone in Slytherin opposed the Malfoys, they couldn't say much. This would make the "stain" on Draco's name quickly forgotten, and many would see it only as children's play before forgetting the matter.

And just as Simon thought, in the following days, the issue was forgotten. Simon was not negatively affected by spreading this rumor, mainly because he didn't spread anything; all he did was briefly comment to someone in Hufflepuff, and the news spread quickly.

Ron's big mouth didn't help much either. He ended up discrediting Draco considerably, and much of the anger that should have been directed at Simon was directed at the "blood traitor," causing even more discord between Draco and Harry.

Meanwhile, Hermione remained somewhat isolated, and her know-it-all facade didn't help much. Apart from Harry and Ron, she didn't talk much to other people, even within Gryffindor. So, aside from the two, her only other friend was Simon.

Looking at the sad and lonely girl in front of him, a sadistic and possessive trait long dormant in Simon began to awaken slowly. He began to imagine how he could isolate Hermione even more and be the only source of light in her life.

Hermione would be a great witch in the future, and undoubtedly, she would be a great woman. So why let that idiot have her when she could be his? But at the same time he thought of this, Simon remembered Elisa and how he ended up ruining any chance he might have had with her when he treated her like a disposable piece of meat.

After returning to his room and thinking a bit, he decided he wouldn't isolate Hermione, but he would be the most important figure for her during her time at Hogwarts and during the events of Voldemort's return. He would find a way to be her guardian angel, eliminating any chance for Ron. And if, by some miracle, there was still a chance for her and Ron to get together, he would kill the idiot and take her for himself, end of story.

The first step would be taken on Halloween night, so Simon just waited. The days passed; in the meantime, nothing very relevant happened in the students' lives.

Simon took advantage of this brief moment of peace and immersed himself in the study of spells and potions. Gradually, he distanced himself from Hermione, leaving her isolated in classes. He only talked to her when they met in the library, most of the time she spoke, and he listened patiently.

Girls are observant, and Simon wanted Hermione to notice that the only person willing to be patient with her was him. In the future, whenever Hermione compared Simon to some other guy, she would know that he was the only one willing to listen to her.

Of course, this also carried the risk of placing Simon directly in the friend zone, so he didn't show himself 100% available when she wanted to talk to him. Sometimes, she came to vent, but he quickly cut her off, and although he continued to keep her company, he didn't let her talk much.

Also, being in the most hated house in the school and eternal rivals of Gryffindor, he had to be a bit more cautious. As the days passed, Hermione became increasingly isolated until finally, the day Simon had been waiting for arrived.

After Professor Flitwick's class, all the students went to their respective rooms to prepare for the Halloween feast. Simon didn't take long and soon arrived at the Great Hall.

At the Slytherin table, he saw that many young people were already at their tables, enjoying the atmosphere and waiting for the start of the feast. He looked at the Gryffindor table, and seeing that Hermione wasn't there, he stood up and went over.

Seeing Simon approach, many frowned; Gryffindor and Slytherin didn't mix and felt mutual hatred for each other.

Neville: Hi, Simon.

Simon: Have you seen Hermione? I need to get something from her.

Neville: Hermione? Well, Pavati said she spent the afternoon crying in the bathroom and didn't want to be bothered.

Simon: Crying?

Neville: Yes.

Simon: Hm, all right, then.

Looking around and seeing that the Halloween dinner hadn't started yet, Simon let out a light sigh and headed for the door. He realized that waiting for the food was useless since the feast would end early. So he went straight to the women's bathroom. Right at the entrance, he bumped lightly into Ron, but before he could say anything, Simon had already left.

Ron: Idiot.

Harry: Leave Ron; let's go to dinner.

Ron: Yes, Fred said that this is the day with the best food of the year.

Harry: Let's see.

Both then sat at the Gryffindor table, and when they saw the plates of food appear, they smiled broadly. However, before they could start eating, Professor Quirrell entered the hall running, shouting.

Quirrell: Troll... in the dungeon... thought I should warn.

And he fell to the floor. The students quickly began to panic and try to leave the hall, but then Dumbledore stood up, speaking forcefully.

Dumbledore: SILENCE. No need to panic.

Seeing the students calm down, Dumbledore continued.

Dumbledore: Prefects, take the students from your respective houses to the dormitories. Professors will follow me towards the dungeons.

Soon after being guided outside, Harry and Ron suddenly realized that Hermione was not with them, which meant she didn't know about the troll, and without thinking twice, they went after her.

Meanwhile, Simon believed that it wouldn't take long for Quirrell to warn about the troll, so he began to walk a little faster. Along the way, he started to smell a foul odor and heard the sound of something heavy being dragged.

Smiling, Simon took out a pair of leather gloves with circles drawn on them from his pockets and went towards the women's bathroom.

Of course, he didn't enter; instead, he stayed at the door and listened for a moment. When he heard someone inside sobbing, he shouted.

Simon: Hermione?

Hermione: Simon? What's wrong?

Confirming that there was no one else nearby, he entered the bathroom while Hermione came out of a stall. Seeing Simon enter the women's bathroom, she blushed a bit and angrily shouted.

Hermione: What are you doing here? This is the women's bathroom.

Simon: I didn't see you during dinner and came looking for you. What happened?

Hermione: Humph, it was nothing. And what do you want?

Simon: I need the notes I gave you

Hermione: Oh, those...

Hermione briefly thought about Simon's sister's notes on first-year spells. She had shown interest in those notes for a long time, but because it was a gift from Simon, she was too embarrassed to ask. "Fortunately", he had offered her those notes a few days ago so she could study and copy what was necessary, returning them on Halloween.

She should have returned them during the feast, but she spent so much time crying that she ended up forgetting.

Hermione: They're in the dormitory. Come on, I'll get them for you.

As Hermione was about to leave, she was suddenly hit by a strong odor, and looking towards the door, she saw a large troll walking towards her.

Hermione: AAAAAAaaaaa!

Simon quickly pulled her back and closed the bathroom door, which didn't last long as the door was quickly broken down. Hermione cowered behind Simon, looking at the troll.

Several things crossed her mind, but seeing Simon in front of her without showing fear calmed her a bit, and she began to try to recall any information about the monster in front of her. After calming down a bit, she spoke softly.

Hermione: It's a troll, Simon. Magic doesn't work on it.

Simon: I know.

Hermione: What will we do?

Simon: Trust me?

Hermione: No.

Simon: Good

Hermione was still scared, but the confidence in Simon's voice gradually calmed her. And even though she said no, she didn't tremble as much as before.

Simon: Levioso.

Suddenly, the troll's club was lifted and began to float above him. The troll then tried to pull the club down but without success. This gave Simon some time to put on a pair of leather gloves.

Simon: Hermione, close your eyes.

Hermione: What?

Simon: Do it.

Hermione: Okay.

Seeing that Hermione had closed her eyes, Simon gently removed the blindfold and opened his God's eye, seeing that Harry and Ron were running towards the bathroom and were almost there. Meanwhile, Dumbledore was guiding the professors to another location, probably with the intention of letting Harry face the troll and thereby slightly fueling the savior's fame.

Looking at the troll, who had finally lowered the club, Simon smiled slightly before waving his hand.

Simon: Goodbye.

A quick and precise blade of air passed through the poor troll's neck, and a few seconds later, it fell to the ground, splattering everything around with blood. Simon waved again, this time creating a light barrier of wind, preventing the blood from reaching him.

Meanwhile, Hermione, who should have had her eyes closed, saw everything and was briefly shocked. She witnessed a danger level xxxx monster being killed by a first-year student with just a wave of hands.

Hermione: Simon... what kind of magic was that?

Simon: Magic? That's alchemy.

Second was my birthday, and I spent the day under the weather. I'm really sick, and I could barely manage to write this chapter. I'll try to write and post at least two more this week. Good night.
