Chapter 2: The calm after the storm

I woke up in a familiar place, I knew the roof that I saw. It was my bedrooms roof. Was all that a dream? No, it felt to real to be a dream, and I still had bruises from the fight, so why was I here laying in my bed. I looked around my room and spotted my sister sleeping with her arms crossed in the chair right next to the door. I slipped out of my cover and hopped of the bed walking towards her. I checked up on her before typing on her shoulder and waking her up. She rubbed over her eyes and when she Started recognizing me she looked at me. : Oh, Lucas your awake." : Yes I am, but Maria why are we here, did you carried me all the way here. I collapsed at least half a mile from here. : Well yes I transported you here on my back, took me an hour. But tell me, are you ok. I saw you doing those things, and the god said that you were awakened." : I don't know what happened either, I couldn't control my body when it happened. But that's not important now, I´ll tell you about it later. More important is, are there any Survivors?" Maria shook her head saying: I didn't look for survivors properly but when I came I saw people laying on the ground all over the place, I even found-"

Tears came out of her eyes and I knew what she had found. I petted her head and wrapped my arms around her. I tried to comfort her until she stopped crying. I stood there with her head in my hands, her face on my shoulder for a few minutes. I loosened my grip around her and placed my arms on her shoulders looking her in the eyes: I need to see it, our people, out of respect."

: Lucas don't-" she tried to stop me but I ignored it and walked out of the door. The house was built that the bedrooms were on the 2nd floor and the stairs would lead to the living room. You could look down on the 1st floor from the stairs, and that was exactly what I did. Completely shocked from what I saw I arrived at the bottom of the stairs What I saw was a massacre, there were corpses everywhere on the floor. From the living room to the back door. A floor full of dead people, my people. I felt a touch on my left shoulder, it was Maria

: I tried to stop you for a reason you know." I turned my head to her and with a trembling voice

I said: Those are not just dead people; they were slaughtered in a brutal and disgusting way. Look at them, arms cut of legs torn apart, burned skin. He made them suffer before killing them." Maria remained silent.

After I recovered a little bit from what I had witnessed I walked out the door, climbed down the stairs to the solid ground. It stopped raining. It was evening and the sun went down. I saw what I expected to see. Corpses all over the place. Children, Women, Calamity didn't make exceptions. I walked pass the dead bodies to the place where I had seen my father for the last time. And with an arm cut of and his chest wide open, my dead father wan laying in front of me. I kneeled down and looked at him, but I felt an absolute nothingness inside of me. And then I waited, waited for him to react. But I knew that wouldn't happen. I spotted his sword on the ground beside him. As I picked it up his sword, my sister came. She didn't know what to say so again, she remained silent. And I was thankful for it. But the moment I thought I had no tears left to cry. My eyes busted tears out, my nose began running and I screamed. I didn't scream words, or something that would make any sense. I just screamed, screamed my soul out of my body. And in that exact moment, I swore to myself that I would become powerful. Even more powerful than a god. And then I will avenge my father's death.

The situation calmed down and me and my sister needed to talk about the future, about what we would do from now on. we sat down on my bed when my sister asked: What is your plan Lucas, what do you intend to do? Will you continue trying to get to Dreris, or will you stay here and rebuild the village.

: rebuild the village? I asked: and then what, everyone is dead. There is nothing left that would be worth it to make me stay. No, I will continue my journey to Dreris, there will be Adventurer cities like Glunden where we could earn some money by doing quests for the guild. Because as far as I know there aren't any people we could go to." : You´re right, there is no one we could ask for help. I agree on your point of getting to Dreris, we will have options in the Capital but how do you expect us to get there? Walking that would take us at least 3 years."

: I know that it will take time to get there, probably even longer than 3 years since we need to rest and will make stops in big cities along the way, so we better start preparing ourselves. We need food and water, money, and something to carry all of it." My sister saw in my eyes that I was serious. So she replied: I see, then we shall depart tomorrow morning. We can take the bread and water reserves of our village. And there should be money inside of our parent's room." She looked sad mentioning the room but continued: I will prepare a bag and a pony to transport the stuff. You will manage the other stuff." I nodded with a little smile on the face and went downstairs to prepare the food. My sister went to the horses to get the pony in order that our journey could begin.
