Chapter 17: Returning to the Village

An hour later, a brand new scabbard was displayed in front of Mark.

"What do you think? Is it to your liking?" Max grinned at him while giving him the finished product.

"I like it!" Mark nodded his head as he observed the scabbard.

Triumphant Hunter's Scabbard [Uncommon]

+ 1.2 Damage

+ 0.3 Endurance

+ 0.3 Strength

(Equipment names are automatically generated.)

The damage of the scabbard was even higher than the damage given by his sword!

Mark was shocked when he saw that it was actually an uncommon item! That means that Max was already a Bronze Rank Blacksmith. 'It seems like this guy was just being humble earlier. It turned out that he was already a true Bronze Rank Blacksmith!'

"Thank you so much for making this scabbard for me, Max." Mark was genuinely grateful.

Max smiled gently at him while shaking his head. "You don't have to thank me. Like I said, this is my way of repaying you for saving me."

Mark didn't say anything more upon hearing his words.

"You should go now, Wolf. I want to take a short rest. My arms are still sore from all that work." Max said in a joking tone.

"Alright." Hearing this, Mark didn't insist on staying. He stood up and cupped his fists at Max before leaving the tent.

Mark immediately equipped his new scabbard and inspected his player attributes.

Player IGN: Wolf of the Grassland

Cultivation: Body Strengthening First Level

Physique: Mortal

Qi: 42/100

Wealth: 463 Orbes

Vitality: 1.7

Endurance: 3.4 —> 3.7

Strength: 1.8 —> 2.1

Stamina: 1.7

Speed: 1.5

Spirit: 2.9

Cold Resistance: 0.3

Heat Resistance: 0.3

Damage: 0.5 —> 1.7

Now, his stats should already be similar to the average stats of First Level Body Strengthening cultivators. Because of his weak real-life body, he started weaker than the average player. He could only narrow down this gap by equipping more powerful items.

Another hour later, Jason's voice echoed in the camp. "Pack your things! We will leave in ten minutes!"

The hunting party didn't encounter any mystical beast during their return trip. This was because of the scouts who led them into safer routes. If not for them, the group would have encountered some mystical beasts along the way.

The team spent one more day before they arrived at the village. Everyone was tired but they didn't waste any time and directly headed to the house of the village head to report the success of the mission.

The village head, Elder Victor, inspected the heart that was placed inside a box. This was the heart of the Black Scaled Boar.

Jason showed it to him to prove that they had killed the target. Other than that, he also showed the teeth, eyes, and other body parts of the beast.

Elder Victor was once a hunter so he was familiar with the Black Scaled Boar. He already knew that the team would be able to hunt the beast, but he never thought that they would come back without casualties. There wasn't even one who was severely injured among them!

Elder Victor raised his head and stared at the hunters. "You guys did a great job! As promised, everyone will receive 200 Orbes for killing the Black Scaled Boar."

[You received 200 Orbes!]

Everyone smiled upon hearing this. This was just a small amount compared to what they could earn after selling the body parts of the Black Scaled Boar. The 200 Orbes compensation was like a bonus for them at this point.

"Thank you, Elder Victor. If you have another hunting mission, don't hesitate to inform us." Jason smiled as he shook hands with the village head.

"Of course!" The old man smiled at his words.

After a few more pleasantries, both parties bid farewell to each other.

The group soon left the mansion.

"We should sell our loot to the market, but we shouldn't go there together. That would only attract unnecessary attention. I think it would be better for us to leave this task to someone. What do you guys think?" Jason said while looking at them one by one.

Some people frowned at his suggestion, while others agreed.

"In that case, who should we send to the market?" Someone said what was on everyone's mind.

"What about Wolf? Although he is new, the kid is a trustworthy person. I can rest easy if it was him." Kevin suggested.

Everyone turned their gazes at Mark. They were only acquainted for less than a week, but he had already proven himself to the group. He was clumsy at first, but he quickly adapted to the life of a hunter.

"If it's Wolf, I have no objections." Larry said.

"I agree." Max gave him a smile.

"I trust the kid."

Mark felt a bit flattered when he heard everyone's words.

"It seems like everyone has decided, but it would be dangerous to leave all the valuables to Wolf. There have been a lot of criminal activities lately. One more person has to go with him to ensure his safety." Jason said while scanning the group.

"I'll do it." Someone raised his hand. It was a middle-aged hunter with a scary-looking scar on his neck. He was one of the Second Level Body Strengthening cultivators in the hunting party. His strength was only beneath their leader, Jason.

Mark turned his gaze at this person. His name was Elias, but everyone called him Mad Dog. He earned this nickname because of his brutal and aggressive fighting style.

'Why does it have to be this guy?' Mark thought to himself. Among everyone on the team, he was most afraid of this person. The guy rarely talks and he only listens to Jason's commands. No one else could control this unpredictable man.

Jason was a bit surprised, but he thought that it was a good idea to have someone powerful to accompany Wolf to the market.

Greenwood Village might look safe on the surface, but there were all sorts of people mixed in with the crowd. "Alright. Mad Dog and Wolf will go together. We will wait for you two at the Mystic Cloud Inn."

Now that it has been decided, everyone handed their loot to Mark and Mad Dog.

"Don't keep us waiting." Jason told them before he left with the hunters.

"Let's go." Mad Dog muttered to him.

Mark nodded and followed him.

***

"Sir Jason, why did you agree to let Wolf go with Mad Dog? That guy is a madman! We should send some people to follow them." Kevin suddenly said.

He didn't bother to lower his voice so everyone heard it clearly.

Jason chuckled and shook his head. "You think too much. Although Mad Dog looks like a lunatic, he is a kind man. I've been acquainted with him for a long time. You guys can rest assured."

Kevin and the others still had some doubts, but they no longer said anything after getting Jason's reassurance.
