Chapter 29: chapter 29 : Convincing Mance

In one of the dungeons of Nightfort , Val was sitting with several men and women of her people when Jon came outside the cell to look at them and she came closer.

 Jon: Madam.

Val: We've been in the cage for three days...three days. It's worse than death on the battlefield, Jon Stark.

Jon: So you don't know anything about death, ma'am. Are you fed properly?

Val: Your men were quite generous in this regard, no one eats this well in our house. How long should we stay in these cages?

Jon: We are waiting for all your injured to be in better condition. (smiles) There is someone who wants to see you with some impatience.

 Val:…

Jon opened the gate and he took her out of there, he untied the knots in her ropes and they started walking together and Jon asked her about her health and if she had been treated well.

They talked a little more before seeing a small group of sworn brothers with one of the wildlings captured and it was Jarl who rushed towards Val upon seeing her.

The men wanted to intervene but Jon motioned for them to let him.

Jarl: Praise the old gods, you are not hurt. Did those crows try to touch you?

Val: No kind of harm has been done to me, they are less...dark than we thought. Where are the others ?! What happened on your side?

Jarl: The battle was completely one sided, the crows fought better than us and could take on three of us without problem. Their archers...they didn't give the giants a chance and used poison to reach them quickly. Thormund, Ygritte and I survived, Benjen Stark spared us and ordered his men to kill as little as possible in our ranks.

Val: The same thing happened to us but Styr was killed after he tried to cowardly attack the Raven King from behind. (points his finger at Jon) He beat Mag the mighty with his own fist.

 Jarl: It's impossible...

Val: My eyes weren't the only ones that saw it.

"Come with me, don't hang around..." Jon said before moving and they followed him to the monorail shuttle.

Val: What is this thing? Where are you taking us?

Jon: You'll know once you get there.

Jarl: They're going to have us executed.

Jon: After sparing you on the battlefield? (looks at Val) Is he retarded?

Jarl: Give me a dagger Raven King and I'll show you if I am.

Val: That's enough Jarl, you don't have a chance...

Jon: Your husband is quite funny.

 Val: He's not my husband.

 Jarl:…

Jon: (takes Val's hand) Are you single?

"DON'T TOUCH HER..." Jarl screamed while trying to push Jon who didn't even move a millimeter to the great dismay of Jarl who was both surprised and frightened because he had the impression of having tried to push a stone wall.

"Keep quiet, friend..." Jon looked into his eyes, that only increased his fear and Val feared her suitor's life.

Val: (to Jon) Please don't kill him, Jarl is very...zealous when it comes to me. He's just very protective.

"(sighs) It's a shame, you should give him a chance. A man so inclined to your protection and satisfaction should be given a chance. He is in love with you and you know it well. (To Jarl) Don't abandon my friend…" Jon finished his sentence by patting Jarl on the shoulder who looked at him in amazement.

Jarl: You're not interested in her?

Jon: There's nothing to say, she's a very beautiful woman and she fights well. It was in my plans to try my luck but I prefer to give up here, there are too many beautiful women and you must have wanted to prove to her for years that you are worthy of her. I consider that I have already lost to you… (looks at Val) the day he becomes interested in someone else, that day you'll perhaps lose the man of your life.

 Val:…

 Jarl:…

They arrived at Castle Black and they followed Jon silently to the medical area where they headed.

They reached a door, Jon opened it and asked the two guests to walk past. They returned a little warily and Jon followed them.

As soon as Val entered, she saw her sister Della on a bed with a newborn in her arms and Mance was next to her. There was also the Lord Commander and Maester Aemon with them.

"DELLA…" Val rushed to her sister and kissed her on the forehead before looking at her nephew.

"It was a really crappy idea to expose your pregnant wife to all this. " Jon said calmly to Mance.

Jeor: I almost slapped him when we discovered his full-term wife hiding in the ruins.

Mance: I had to get my people and my wife through this wall as a priority, we had to wait until there were many more of us because of your patrols.

Val: (to her sister) I wasn't there to help you, forgive me...

Della: It's okay, their healer is a good man and he's the one who helped me.

Val: (to Maester Aemon) Thank you…

Aemon: It's not much, your sister still needs some rest. I know Mance very well, there was a time when he was at home here so it's nice to bring his boy into the world.

Mance: Actually Maester Aemon, I don't recognize the Night's Watch. The buildings, the people, the equipment, nothing is the same anymore.

Jeor: Much has changed since the arrival of my second in command, The Future King of the North .

Mance: (looks at Jon) The King of the North? Are you a king? Is this now possible within the order?

Jon: Not yet crowned but I have the support of several houses. If we did't kill you it is for two main reasons which I will explain to you in front of the rest of your people. Do you think they are still at your camp?

Mance: No. I told them that if things didn't go as planned and something bad happened to us, they had to retreat to Hardhome and organize themselves, appoint a new leader and start again because under no circumstances should we stay on this side from the wall.

Jon: So it's decided, we'll leave tomorrow for Hardhome with your other captains still alive.

 Mance:…

Val: He wants to give us a chance to survive, Mance…

Mance: I'm listening to your proposal.

Jon: You'll all hear it this evening and you'll decide, your other lieutenants will certainly have their opinions to give.

Tonight, as planned, there was a discussion with the Wildling leaders and Jon made his proposal to them.

He told them that they could earn their place behind the wall by fighting against the traitorous Bolton and the Southern forces at his side but that once installed, even if they didn't bow down to him, they must live according to the laws of the North.

Obviously, it was a proposition that was entirely to their advantage because Jon actually didn't really need them to deal with the Boltons' case.

This proposal was there solely for the Wildlings to gain their place in the eyes of all and facilitate their acceptance.

He didn't forget to clarify this point and that is precisely what convinced Mance and the others.

The next day, a raven arrived at Nightfort with a letter from Arya .

Apparently the Bolton, Manderly and their other supporting houses' troops had attacked Stannis's weakened army. He didn't have enough men left as many had fled with the horses.

There was only an infantry of 2000 men left with Stannis at the front, even Melisandre had disappeared just like his wife who killed herself.

The Bolton forces led by Roose himself and mainly composed of horsemen broke through the ranks of Stannis's men and a massacre began, they would have been decimated if the resistance had not come to support Stannis.

The 3000 men (mutants) led by Jory Cassel, Asher Forrester, Lyra Mormont and Torrhen Karstark attacked by surprise to bring death to the Bolton troops who fled leaving several horses whose riders had been killed.

In the meantime, a small detachment of 1,500 men led by Ramsey attacked Winterfell with the complicity of Little Jon Omble who had long since pledged allegiance to the Boltons and was transmitting resistance information to Ramsey.

Knowing that several resistance forces went to help Stannis, Ramsey attacked Winterfell to kill the Stark children for good.

Unfortunately for them, Torrhen had informants in Ramsey's camp (nanites) and had already informed Jon of Lord Umber's treachery long ago.

The Umber soldiers at Winterfell had drunk the nanite-laden wine and meat that Jon had brought on his last visit, the nano robots had already invaded their brain functions and all were under the control of Jon who had imposed a protocol in their heads .

The protocol was simple, the day Little Jon acts, they will not obey him and will exclusively serve the Stark children.

It happened and it was hard for Ramsey and Little Jon.

In the end, Little Jon was killed, Ramsey tried to escape because his 1500 men were extinguished by the 2000 mutants remaining in the castle.

As Ramsey was leaving, Rickon paralyzed him with two arrows in the legs from the back of the knees and he was taken captive (sweet irony).

Jon was quite happy with them but quite satisfied that everything went as he planned and as he told the Wildlings, he doesn't necessarily need them for this war.

The resistance forces were mostly made up of mutants who could win almost any battle.

He finished reading the letter and sighed deeply as he thought about how Robb had ruined the trust the Northern houses had in the Starks, these minor houses allied themselves with the Boltons with the support of the crown.

 [The entities]

Death: This is the main character least involved in his battles that we have seen so far. I would have liked to see Ramsay fall.

Eternity: Yeah, me too but all things considered, it's quite intelligent and realistic.

Reality: I confirm, Jon is acting strategically by using nanites very well. Normally many would want to show everyone how strong they are with this but Jon had a much more sensible and intelligent approach.

Eternity: Exactly, he made his men useful. What's the point of having competent people under our command if we absolutely have to be everywhere to manage everything ?

Reality: He has made his men strong and competent to ensure that Absolutely everything goes according to the plans he prepares. And he uses his gifts for a simple and fixed objective, the well-being of the North. No conquest, or other bullshit to rule all of Westeros but just the North.

 Death:... What a man !

 Reality: What a man !

Eternity: What a KING ! Plus what he said to Val about Jarl was classy too.

Reality: He rebuffed Daenerys and pushed away his attraction to Val because of Jarl's strong feelings for her...I say Sigma.

 Death: A real CHAD!

Reality: What is this expression ?!

Death: A thing that humans use to designate a cool man, a hero according to the bro code or badass guy who carries the principles and hopes of other men.

Eternity: Someone here has apparently become really interested in humans since we started reviewing their works.

Death: Shut up! If you tried it yourself, you would understand. They're stupid but some stand out. You should listen to one of their musical genres there, the papp...

 Reality: Rap...

 Death: YES, RAP!

Reality: You should also listen to American music from the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Eternity: Rah you annoy me, I don't like being out of the loop. I'm going to try too.

Death: "Billie Jean is not my lover, uh 🎶" ...

Reality : " She's just a girl...🎶"

Eternity :...
