Chapter 2: 002 Meddlesome Foolish Woman_1

Translator: 549690339

Outside the rose wall, in the Aston Martin, Lucas Griffin's right hand gripped the car door handle tightly, his knuckles slightly whitened, and a bone-chilling coldness glinted in his hawk-like eyes.

Jonas Jox was ready to get out of the car at any moment, thinking Lucas Griffin would certainly storm inside.

But to his surprise, Lucas Griffin just sat there, his face ominously dark.

Perplexed, Jonas hesitated before speaking, "Aren't you going in to help her?"

Lucas Griffin released the door handle, "No need."

His senses were beyond those of ordinary people; when Amanda Jenkins lowered her eyes as she was being scolded and hit, he captured the tenacity and intensity she concealed beneath her thick eyelashes.

This girl, was definitely not simple.

Rather interesting, in fact.

"Go back to Griffin's Family and prepare a room for her," Lucas Griffin instructed, "Find the right moment, I want to bring her back."

"But..." Jonas hesitated, "Her reputation isn't very good, and the old man values girls who are virtuous and talented. Brother Kirin, bringing her back like this seems..."

Seeing Lucas Griffin's brow furrow, Jonas quickly nodded and corrected himself, "Okay, I'll take care of it as soon as I get back."

"Next month is Grandpa's birthday, isn't it?"

"Yes, I have already prepared the birthday gift for Brother Kirin." Jonas grew up alongside Lucas Griffin and, though a servant, their relationship was as close as brothers, which is why he addressed Lucas Griffin as Brother Kirin in private.

He considered himself one of the few people in the world who truly understood Lucas Griffin.

With just a look from Lucas Griffin, Jonas knew what he was thinking, so often Lucas didn't need to say anything for Jonas to take care of everything perfectly, without ever making a mistake.

But what concerned Lucas at the moment wasn't the birthday gift for the old man.

Lucas asked, "Have the Jenkins Family been invited?"

"Though not as prominent as before, the Jenkins Family is still a family of scholars in Brocade City, so they receive an invitation every year to Grandpa's birthday banquet. Moreover, this year, Grandpa wants to partner with Gavin Jenkins, so at this banquet, the Jenkins Family's attendance is inevitable."

"Then how come I've never seen her before?" Lucas Griffin's brows knitted tighter.

He hadn't expected that after searching for so long, she would be so close by.

It was just like the saying goes, search and search, turn around suddenly, and there she is in the dwindling light.

"Brother Kirin has seen just now how the Jenkins Family treats her. They certainly wouldn't allow her to attend such events."

Lucas Griffin's eyes darkened, "This time, I want to see her at the banquet."

"Okay, I'll make the arrangements."

The car started, and Jonas looked out of the window at the retreating Jenkins Family Villa, filled with confusion.

Over the years, he had been helping Brother Kirin find this girl, but the reasons remained unknown to him.

Lucas Griffin's thoughts were too enigmatic, and even though Jonas was his confidant and greatly trusted by him, it seemed like no one in this world could truly enter Lucas Griffin's heart.

However, this girl named Amanda Jenkins seemed to be an exception.

At this thought, Jonas's lips curled into a smile, anticipating that life wouldn't be so dull anymore.

Looking out the window again to the lush greenery, it seemed, spring had truly arrived.

...

Gavin Jenkins was a "scholar," and the walls around his villa were covered with roses, which were stunningly beautiful and romantic when in bloom.

Amanda Jenkins walked behind the rose bushes and stretched her neck to look outside.

Just now, she thought she saw a pair of beautiful eyes from the outside, evoking a strangely familiar sensation.

Odd, why is there no one to be seen now?

Maybe it's just an illusion from working too hard on designs late at night recently.

Amanda Jenkins didn't think much of it, turned around, and returned to the courtyard to pick up the scissors and begin pruning the plants and flowers.

Though the Jenkins family wasn't what it used to be, they still had servants to help.

But as long as she was at home, her mother would find ways to make her work.

If she didn't finish the tasks her mother assigned, she wouldn't even think about having a good dinner tonight.

After working all afternoon, her back aching and sore, she finally finished trimming the plants and flowers.

After dinner, Amanda excused herself, saying she was going out for a run, changed into her sportswear, and left the house.

She jogged away from the Villa area but ended up taking a bus to a tailor shop.

The owner of the tailor shop was a Granny with a kind face.

Amanda often came here to help Granny with her work.

Granny, wearing her reading glasses, sat to the side and watched Amanda work skillfully and quickly, praising her again and again, "I didn't expect a young girl like you to be so clever and skilled. Your craftsmanship is truly excellent; even this old tailor is no match for you."

Look at those neat and tight stitches; it was nothing like how Amanda usually appeared at school.

Amanda just smiled at Granny's praise.

While working, she listened to Granny chat about various household matters. Half an hour later, Amanda had completed the clothes it would take Granny half a day to mend.

She particularly liked this job, where she didn't have to hide who she was.

Because she was fast, it only took her half an hour to earn fifty yuan, and when there were more clothes, she could earn even more. It was also good practice for her hands.

As a fashion designer, a solid foundation was essential.

However, she was eager to make more money because there was something very important she needed to accomplish.

When Amanda left the tailor shop, the sky had already darkened. She felt like someone was following her and when she turned to look, she indeed saw a man stumbling towards her.

"Hey, girl, don't go. Come and have a drink with me; just name your price."

The stench of alcohol hit her as the drunken man lunged at her and grabbed Amanda's hand.

Startled, Amanda quickly lifted her foot and kicked decisively, hard and accurately, at the man's vulnerable spot three inches below the abdomen, nothing like her usual meek and docile appearance at the Jenkins home.

"Ouch..."

Taking advantage of the drunken man doubling over in pain, Amanda turned and fled.

After running a distance, she suddenly heard the man's screams behind her, "Spare me, please don't hit me anymore, I won't dare do it again, I won't dare... Ah..."

Amanda's steps faltered. What was happening?

The horrible screams echoed through the streets at night, like the cries of evil spirits in purgatory, chilling to the core.

After hesitating for a while, Amanda decided to go back and see what was going on.

She saw two cars speeding away, quickly disappearing into the night, and the place where the drunk man had been was left with only a pool of blood.

Amanda shivered and hurried to the phone booth on the street to dial 110.

...

The following night, Lucas Griffin was dealing with paperwork in his study when Jonas Jox knocked and entered.

"Brother Kirin, about last night's incident, Miss Jenkins reported it to the police, and they have already traced it back to us."

Lucas's hand holding the pen paused for a moment, and the tight lips that were usually pressed together now lifted into a trace of a smile.

After five years, she was still the same as before, always meddling in affairs that weren't hers, unafraid of bringing trouble upon herself.

Silly woman, she still hasn't learned her lesson from five years ago.
