Chapter 2: The Attack

As the sun set to the horizon, the old mansion regained its enormous view when all the lights from the iron gate to the tower illuminate the surroundings. It stood like a castle, overlooking the sea in a vast property of Fontvieille. A Rolls-Royce parked in front of its huge custom arched wooden door.

Alejandro Grand, the tenth successor of the Grand Empire, came out from the driver's seat and rushes the stairs towards the main door. Though an illegitimate child, he captures the heart of his paternal grandfather – Magnus Grand, the Godfather of an enormous underworld society.

A chauffeur meets him halfway and catch the key he had thrown after bowing its head – a gesture of greetings and respect to the man. Ascending on the stairs towards the main door, Maverick, the Old Butler, rushed towards him to give some updates.

"How is the old man?" he asked. His expression is somewhat indifferent.

"I have to be honest, the Godfather don't have much time." upon hearing this he lost his track and glance at the butler in a questioning look.

"How was it possible? Was he ill?" he asked with gritted teeth.

"That's was actually the reason why he's been trying to ask you to come home since last year. I believe you had your reason Mr. Grand for not complying but there's so many things to catch up with your grandpa." Maverick explained in a monotonous behavior.

He sighed. He knows too well that his grandfather, really wanted to pass down to him the obligation his been doing for almost four decades. The obligation of protecting their family and destroying its enemy. For his grandfather, obligation for their family is such a huge responsibility.

When he was about to leave, the butler called him once again. "Mr. Grand, I'm afraid your cousin, Fabio, is also upstairs." He said in a warning tone.

He stopped and stared at the butler, his expression darken. "Why is he here?"

"You know why, Mr. Grand." Without hearing more of Maverick's words, he stormed upstairs, towards his grandfather's room.

As he opens the door, the old man's eyes widened and he was greeted with a huge smile with tears running down its checks.

"Alejandro!" the old man called in much astonishment.

Meanwhile in the Go household, Marilyn cried as her daughter vanished heading back to Philadelphia. She knew that with a heavy heart, Lellouch went back to her work after two days of visit in their small town.

"I hope nobody recognized her, Marilyn." Felix, her husband said. "If we knew all along that she will be found here, we could have sent her to your relatives in Asia."

"How can this be? How can we be so sure that she will not be found in Philadelphia?" she replied, her anxiety started to hit her. "We have no choice. We need to turn her over before anyone could take her." She said trying to convince her husband.

"How sure are we that this man can be trusted, Marilyn? This man was just a couple of years older than her. He wasn't there when the feud happened. We don't even know if he really is our ally and how much information he had from the past." Felix exclaimed. He can't contain his confusion and started pacing back and fort in their dining area.

"What should we do?" Marilyn started to cry. "We swore to the Old Man that we will protect that child in return for the safety and peaceful lives of your comrades and this family."

"I need to talk to the Old Man." Marilyn's eyes widened upon hearing this.

"Alone?" How can you be so sure if the old man is still in good health? What if someone will hunt you down on your way to Europe? Outside this town we're no longer safe. Have you forgotten how unfortunate Macario was?" she said in a panic, her hands shaking.

Macario was Felix's younger brother. They once were a part of those trusted made-man of a powerful Mafia in Mexico. Twenty years ago, Macario decided to leave the mafia. He discovered that the Boss was responsible for their parents' death and that he and Felix were kidnap when they were still toddlers. The cause of the incident involved the secret of the wine cellar that the Boss wanted to locate. He fled to Greece where he finally reunited with his love and two children. Unfortunately, the Boss located their home and mercilessly massacred the whole family.

Felix knew all along the reason behind the death of their parents. In fact, he was still five years old at that time and he was there when the Boss himself killed them in front of him. At a young age his hatred grew but he could not do anything as much as he wanted revenge. The Boss was too powerful for him to handle.

"If he only listened and turned himself to the Old Man, his family would have been saved." Felix said in dismay as he approached his wife and sit beside her. He held her hand trying to calm her. "All we have are each other's arms, Marilyn. I have accepted our fate knowing we can't have our own child. But having Lellouch give us hope to be parents, and we did."

"We raised a beautiful and loving child as our own. We were whole. Now our family is in danger!" she uttered in between sobs.

Felix cupped her face and kissed her in the forehead. "Now, we need to decide what is best to protect her." he sighed then continued "Tomorrow we will turn her over." He assured her as he took her in his arms.

Meanwhile, Marilyn went to their room and opened the bottom compartment of her table then took the necklace she has been keeping for more than two decades – the Heart of the Sea. Its blue diamond sparkle like swimming in the middle of the calm sea which reminded her of Lellouch. The diamond reflects her eyes.

Marilyn was the housekeeper of the Dexters' Mansion in Manhattan. At the age of twenty-seven, she earned the trust of Maria Dexter - the young heiress of the Dexter Family whom despite her being pregnant abandoned her husband. Young Maria was on her due when a selected member of Mafia attacked the mansion. She was in labor and Marilyn assisted her on the Masters bedroom.

She can still remember how she held the small child, still covered with blood. Maria, in her dying state, asked protection for her child and place the necklace on its body before covering her with white cloth.

"The necklace will reveal her true identity. Please protect her with your own life." The woman murmured before passing away.

On other hand, Felix who were an accomplice of the attacked planned to escape the gang. This was his only way to leave the Mafia. The place was already on fire when he reached the Masters bedroom. There he saw Marilyn holding the crying baby whom he felt love at first sight. With the turned of events, he saved her, as they escaped with the child in her arms.

Indeed, the young heiress was right. After a month of hiding, they were located by the powerful head of the underground society – the Old Man also known as the Godfather. An agreement was made between the Old Man and Felix himself that involves the safety of the child they were carrying. The child must be kept hidden until the feud between two clans mended. In return, the Old Man will support Felix together with his other comrades who escaped from the mafia and secure their safety.

Marilyn was still reminiscing the events of her life when suddenly a loud explosion was heard not far from their home. She started to panicked.

"Felix!" she shouted running outside her room. Tears runs to her cheeks when she found him at the garage limping.

"They're here." Felix said trying to calm himself and drag himself toward the living room. "Try your best to stay calm and do what I say. Keep your head down and go to the dining table. You will see a button on the left corner of the table. Press it and a hidden cupboard will open. From there, you get me a gun."

Marilyn was shaking but still obliged. She crawled towards the dining area and do as she was told. Taking the gun with her, she crawled back towards Felix when she saw him tying a cloth on his left leg. The pain is evident in his face, he started to look pale. As soon as he took the gun, they can hear footsteps coming from the kitchen.

"Oh! I forgot to lock the kitchen!" Marilyn whispered. Without a word, Felix grabbed her and they crawled towards the hallway. He asked Marilyn to hide and squeezed herself inside the tiny stockroom.

"Wait here. Just promise me, don't come out unless I call your name." Felix instructed. As he was about to go, its Marilyn's turn grab him this time.

"Please be safe! Please promise me!" she cried. Felix didn't answer her, instead, he kissed her in a passionate way, although too quick, before disappearing in the hallway.
