Chapter 40: Scyther
10th January 1995
Kanto Region, Viridian Forest
Red and Yellow had successfully navigated their way out of Pinsir territory and into the Scyther territory where Red was planning to capture his first bug Pokemon, A Scyther.
After deep contemplation, Red decided to capture a Scyther because of it's dual typing, Bug and Flying which meant it was effective against Bug types as well.
But to capture a Scyther, one needed luck as Scyther can blend into the surrounding area of Viridian forest so usually it was a lost cause finding one even in the territory meant for them but Red was not going to give up, He had a lot of days remaining... He would find a Scyther no matter how long it took, even if it meant he had to drag Yellow through the entirety of Viridian Forest.

The outskirts of the Scyther territory looked devastated as Red entered, His eyes glued on the devastation.
It seems like a battle went on and it was even capable of giving the surrounding area a lot of trouble... Then Red's eyes landed on a Scyther, it's green outlandish figure near the small lake at the corner, It's back to a tree, The Scyther was seemingly resting.
Yellow stared at the Scyther, her heart growing restless all of a sudden.
"Red, I don't think..." Yellow was muttering and tried to grab Red's hand only for her to feel nothing, He wasn't there. She turned to the Scyther and saw Red calmly walking to the Pokemon with Riolu beside him.
Yellow let out an exasperated sigh, Red and Riolu were the same... always longing for a powerful opponent.
"Can't they just rest?" Yellow questioned no one in particular as she saw Red smile at Scyther.
"You can stop pretending to sleep," Red said with a shrug and Scyther turned to him, a little bit of curiosity in it's eyes.
"I want to challenge you to a battle, Of course it's not any ordinary battle, It'll just be one with a bit of a bet, If I win the battle, I will catch you in one of these," Red said, flashing a Pokeball in front of Scyther, "And if you win, I give you a month's supply of Bug Pokemon food,"
The absurdity of the bet made Red sweatdrop, If he lost, He'd be giving out a thousand Pokedollars but all for good measure.
Scyther nodded and Red took a quick scan with the Pokedex, Scyther was at LV. 18 which was higher than any Pokemon that he had but...
"How many of my Pokemon do you want to face against?" Red asked.
"Scy!"
Scyther pointed to every single one of them making Red blink in confusion.
"You want a Six versus One Pokemon battle?!" Red asked.
Scyther nodded and took a combat stance.

Red had a counter measure for Scyther's double team, Pidgey's Sand attack and Gust would serve as a good counter measure.
Scyther's Aerial ace could be delayed if Pichu had a chance to use Thunder Wave first in the battle.
Scyther's Pursuit would be a very viable move as he would be switching out... and he didn't have a counter for that yet but everything could be thought about on the way.
Red and Scyther were a considerable distance away from each other with Red gripping Pichu's Pokeball.
"Alright, Go Pichu!" Red ordered as he threw the Pokeball into the air and revealed Pichu who was timid.
"Thunder Wave!" Red ordered.
A small weak wave of electricity spread around the arena, striking Scyther in succession as the Pokemon had decided to let Pichu get the first hit.Red raised up his Pokeball to return Pichu but Scyther was faster, a thin black aura shrouding it's figure as it slammed into Pichu just before Red was able to return Pichu... it was a one hit KO.
Pichu was returned and a bead of sweat went down Red's face.
'Pursuit is a very scary move... It's full potential can only be used when a Pokemon is about to be switched out and since the Level difference between Scyther and Pichu was a lot... Pichu was instantly knocked out,' Red thought as he gripped Charmeleon's Pokeball.
"Let loose, Charmeleon!" Red ordered.
Charmeleon appeared in the battlefield, red hot flames protruding from the tip of it's tail.
"Flamethrower!" Red ordered.
Charmeleon rushed forward, His mouth glowing in a red light as a powerful Flamethrower tore through the air but to his surprise, Scyther dodged the Flamethrower without trouble and raced to Charmeleon.
"Metal Claw, Engage in close combat!" Red ordered.
Charmeleon's claws lit up as they collided with Scyther's scythes causing a crackling sound as the two steel type moves clashed, Red could see a flash of fire and his eyes widened.
Charmeleon bounced off the ground and slashed once again but Scyther moved away and swung it's scythe, Charmeleon got a leg injury and it was bleeding.
"Once again, Flamethrower!" Red ordered.
This move was made in point-blank range and it would be very impossible for even a fast Pokemon like Scyther to fly out of the way... but you know what they say about Speed... It's unpredictable.
Scyther dodged the impending catastrophe of fire by using Aerial ace to dodge, A really smart tactic.
"Charmeleon, Return!" Red ordered.
Charmeleon was wide-eyed as he was returned into his Pokeball without any delay.
'Crap, I really need to change up my strategy, First of all, I need to focus on weakening Scyther, It's too fast... Even as it's paralyzed,' Red thought as he unclipped another Pokeball.
"Alright Riolu, Your turn!" Red ordered as he threw the Pokeball into the air and revealed Riolu who looked excited to finally be battling against Scyther.
"Vacuum Wave, Turn the tides!" Red voiced out his encouragement.
Riolu took a step backwards, aura flickering around her arm as an orb of wind energy was formed. Riolu released the Vacuum wave on Scyther who looked ready to dodge it...
