Chapter 9: Web Shooters

Peter woke Xavier up early the next day for school, making sure that he would wake up in time. Xavier felt like he hadn't slept at all. He had pushed himself much too far the night before. At least he didn't have that headache anymore. He dragged himself off to school, where he slept like a log until Cindy woke him up.

"Hey, you ok? You've been sleeping all class." She asked. She had sat down next to him and put her head in view of his, since he didn't bother raising his.

"Yea I stayed up all night is all. What, are you worried about me?"

She stared at him for a moment. "...Of course not, but if you need anything you can always call me ok?"

"Mhm, you got it. I'm gonna go back to catching up on sleep now." Xavier said. Cindy stayed for a second, watching Xavier fall back asleep, before she got up.

"Cindy?" She stopped and looked back to see him sitting up again. "Yeah?" Cindy stood, grabbing her left arm with her other one.

"Thank you for checking on me." On the inside, he was smiling. 'Apparently, Cindy Moon is weak to eye contact.' He thought before going back to sleep.

"Of course."

Xavier ended up sleeping through most of his classes that day. He felt much better after some much needed rest. After school, Xavier and Peter went to the Lab again to try and find out how their abilities drained them. To do that, Peter needed to scan their brain signals if possible. Luckily, the Lab was high tech and their father had all sorts of random machines lying around. It wasn't anything amazing, but it did the job.

This time, Peter was the guinea pig, as Xavier was still tired from yesterday and wanted to be in top shape before any more tests. The boys found that over strenuous use of the ability, the brain waves would slow down. It seemed that there was some kind of drain somewhere, but they couldn't find the reason so they moved on.

Peter's new ability seemed to be all about controlling his essence and presence. It went from emitting emotions to making him less noticeable, like his presence had dissipated. Peter said he was able to 'see auras and he could 'suck' in his aura so people didn't notice him. And when the boys tested it out of the station, Xavier found it hard to find him. Xavier let Peter get out of his notice while he had some trouble finding Peter.

Xavier found that he and his brother were able to stick and stand on almost any surface. It didn't matter if it was on skin or through their shoes, they could walk on the ceiling either way. Peter took some samples of Xavier's webs and began to synthesize his own formula. Xavier took a look at the shop for spider-gadgets and found too many to count. So he narrowed it down to web shooters and found a few types. Many of them had different types of effects that seemed cool, but he went for the basics.

[User! You have a free pass for materials in the shop: 1000 pounds of common material- 100 pounds of uncommon material- 20 pounds of Rare material- 10 pounds of Epic material- Or 1 pound of Legendary material.]

Xavier immediately dove into the material shop. Taking a closer look, the materials ranged from normal metals like Iron to rare MCU metals. Though the price of a metal called Uru and anything else was extremely high.

Xavier found that the prices were rather standard. That was because all the materials had separate ratings from common to legendary. With Uru being epic rated. The common metals like iron were one Token per pound. Uncommon were 10, Rare jumped up to 50, Epic cost 100 per pound and Legendary cost 1,000 per pound of material. The prices were extremely high, until you considered the effects.

Uru is used mostly by the Asguardians. It is said to be from the first moon in existence. It is extremely durable and rivals Vibranium in resilience, landing it in Epic. It had to be overpowered because it also multiplied whatever energies passed through it. So as far as Xavier thought, the prices were fair. In the other tab were the blueprints that he was looking for. These had the same ratings and prices per piece as the materials. Strange thing he noticed, if he looked a gadget up in the shop, he would get a blueprint of it no matter how silly.

In order to get the best deal, Xavier looked around the shop for some kind of suit combo. It wasn't easy to find an affordable one, but he soon found something called a Basic Suit Builder. It took materials and put them together to form parts of a suit, and it was only uncommon. That meant that he still had 990 Tokens worth of the free pass left. Peter found something similar for gadgets that brought it down to 980.

He bought the gadget builder now and brought it out. It was a sleek metal box with a smooth surface, no blemishes on it anywhere.

[Users need to say what they wish to be made and a basic version will be crafted, after materials are imputed.]

"I want to make a pair of web shooters and a portable web synthesizer." Peter was the one who spoke up, since it was his gadgets being made.

[Materials: 2 pounds of Stainless Steel.]

Xavier checked and it turned out to be uncommon. That was an easy 20 Tokens down the drain, but it was for a good cause. Plus, he still had a lot more. He put the steel onto the machine and it opened up and swallowed the materials. They just sank beneath the surface like it was a liquid.

The cube went still for a moment, which scared Xavier, but it soon spit out a set of web shooters. Right after a canister the size of Peter's palm shot out as well, and almost hit the ground. Though, Peter managed to catch it right before it fell. More testing, and they found this model of shooters was only a little worse than Xavier's organics, but it made Peter happy. Especially because the synthesizer would slowly create more webs on its own in canisters that would be stored in his inventory. All in all- A productive day.

Crime rates were rising. Villains like Black Cat were beginning to show their faces, even Scorpion had made his first appearance. Norman Osborn has gone missing from Oscorp, making Harry temporarily take his position. It seemed that Norman's disease had gone rampant and bedridden him.

Xavier and Peter got accepted into their internships, both under Dr. Octavious. Xavier signed up for it because of how advanced the technology being used was, and he wanted to see if he could replicate it as there were no more crafters available in the shop, only tools. He would have to make everything himself from now on, unless it was basic.

Peter was getting more and more restless during this time. He flinched every time he saw a new headline on the news. He knew he could do something, but he lacked the conviction. Though, he did end up signing up for the wrestling tournament; just like in Tobey's series. Xavier knew that Uncle Ben's time was coming and although he could stop it, it was an incredibly important part of Peter's story. Even with how much the old man reminded him of his grandfather.
