Chapter 16: Family Problems

Seeing me arrive home, Bridget gave a dejected smile and waved at me.

"Hey." – she said, clearly tired.

She tried to get up, but clearly she had no strength.

I ran to help her.

"Let's go in, I'll make you something to eat and then we'll talk." – I said while holding her in my arms.

With effort we went to the kitchen where I sat her at the small table.

I didn't have many things at home so I took eggs and rice from the fridge and made her egg fried rice.

When I placed the plate in front of her I could finally see her situation clearly.

Bridget's eyes were swollen from crying, her hair was unkempt, and her clothes looked like they hadn't been changed in days.

When she saw that I had prepared something for her to eat, she tried, but clearly she had no appetite.

"What happened? – I asked her after a few minutes.

The agony was clear on her face.

The feelings on her face ranged from disbelief, sarcasm, and outrage in quick succession.

"The Malfoys happened in my life." – she said finally.

I started to imagine what could have happened, but none of the scenarios that came to mind were good.

My blood started to boil even before she explained what had happened.

"You wouldn't believe what they put me through this summer." – she continued, still having difficulty speaking.

Seeing her in that situation was making me uncontrollably angry.

"It all started in the second week of the holidays. Lucius approached my father at one of the Ministry events." - she said.

She was extremely emotionally hurt. I couldn't help myself and grabbed her hand to comfort her.

"He had the audacity…" – she cried, losing a little control.

"He proposed to Draco?" – I asked.

She shook her head.

"I wish that was it." - she said.

Worse than marriage with Draco, I find it difficult to imagine. My options were running out to deduce the problem. But it was clearly something worse, even humiliating.

"He approached my father as a middleman for the Crabbes!" – she said finally.

For a second I froze.

Gorilla number one.

My blood ran cold before boiling again.

That bag of lard.

"Malfoy offered to expedite the paperwork for my family's recognition as nobles." – she said disgusted.

"And my father accepted!" – she cried, falling into tears.

"He sold me." – she murmured amidst crying.

I squeezed her hand trying to comfort her.

It didn't take long for the poor girl to fall asleep at the kitchen table.

Gently I took her in my arms and took her to the room next to the suite.

I gently placed her on the bed and covered her with a light blanket, just so she wouldn't get the cold of the night.

I returned to the kitchen and collected the food she had barely touched and prepared to call it a night.

When I finally arrived at the suite I leaned against the door and let my body fall towards the floor.

I needed to burn that fury inside me.

I started doing push-ups compulsively.

If I had known where the Crabbes lived I would have left right now to get rid of them all.

I just hate politics.

I don't know how long I stayed there, I just know that at some point I became too tired to use my arms. I got up using only my legs and threw my body on the bed.

The fury is still inside me, only I was too exhausted at that moment.

I fell asleep without realizing it, still thinking about a million ways to get rid of the suine.

I woke up the next morning feeling fatigued, but even after what I did yesterday I was still able to move with ease, the effects of Body Forging Dan were still minimally acceptable.

I took a shower and went to prepare breakfast.

I had put on one of my old shirts, but apparently it had become too small for me. Without much patience, I just took it off and threw it in the corner of the room.

When I entered the kitchen I saw Bridget trying to cook, but without much success.

"Good morning." – I saluted.

She looked up at me.

"Oh! What is this, go put your clothes on!" – she protested, seeing me.

For a second I was mad at the shirt and forgot to put on another one.

I raised my hands in apology and went to the laundry room to get one of the ones I had washed.

My clothes were all uncomfortable to wear, I would need to go out shopping.

"Better now?" – I asked when I returned to the kitchen.

Bridget gave up,

I took advantage of the opportunity to take my place at the stove.

She managed to light it, probably with her wand, but it was nowhere near hot enough to use.

With a wave of my wand I made it heat up to the temperature I needed.

I fried eggs, made some toast and heated water for coffee or tea.

"How did you learn to do things around the house?" – she asked.

"I knew I wouldn't return to the Notts so I took some time to figure out how to live on my own." – I explained.

She seemed to accept my answer.

"Besides, this kind of thing is among the basics Muggleborn learn." – I said.

At this moment she was surprised.

"Do Muggleborn learn this kind of thing?" – she asked, still in disbelief.

I nodded.

"They start magic lessons at age 11, receive a list of Spells that they can use to help around the house and monthly lessons on Defensive Spells." – I explained.

Bridget's surprise increased even more.

"Have you never read about war?" – I asked curious.

She was embarrassed at this moment.

"It wasn't one of my favorite topics in my house, even though they didn't participate." – she said.

I put the food on the table.

"Malfoy is one of the richest and most influential men in the entire country. Crabbe and Goyle are his right and left hands, it is a fact because they have something else in common." – I started talking.

Bridget was uncomfortable with my mentioning the subject.

"All three were Deatheaters." – I said finally.

Her fists clenched until she nearly drew blood from her own hands.

"Aaaah! What the hell!" – she shouted.

"From what happened last year, they know that Voldy didn't die completely." – I completed my explanation.

"They were recruiting him for their little club and turning me over to the Crabbes was the act of loyalty they were asking for." – she said in a defeated tone.

"Unfortunately this is a big possibility." – I commented.

She seemed to have overcome some of the trauma and was more hating her father than actually disappointed.

"Is there any problem with me staying here until the start of the school year? – she asked while pouring a cup of tea.

I rolled my eyes pretending to be annoyed.

"Of course you can, I'm going to go buy some things, I believe you need clothes and your materials for the year, write down everything you need and I'll buy them later. Walking among muggles shouldn't be a problem, but you shouldn't wander through Diagon Alley." – I said in a casual tone.

She was a friend, at that moment I felt more like protecting her than taking her to bed, not that I would refuse if that happened, but I decided to stop my advances.

----------------------

Without Harry to disrupt Quirilmort's plans and the fact that the defenses would never need Harry to meddle (at least the only real one, the mirror), Voldiril had to try to use students to get the philosopher's stone, which our know-it-all Headmaster would never let it happen.

So he had to flee when Quiril's body could no longer support his soul.

And in this world, students know what happened, even if the daily prophet hid it.
