Abilities Shikai:
Weapon creation /Sealing
- Anything that Hakkōhyakuhachijūichi Shō hit with his hammer side could be made into a weapon by Oetsu. This allows him to effectively seal anything into a weapon that he hit with it.
- This was powerful as he could seal other weapons that weren't Zanapkuto or anything really into a weapon under his control. Including the ground. He could hit the ground and turn the entire battlefield into a weapon under his control.

Magma generation
- Apart from that Hakkōhyakuhachijūichi Shō released flames and magma that were millions of degrees Celsius hot and allowed Oetsu to either burn and kill enemies or reshape and forge the battlefield the way he wished.

Blazing Refinement
- Hakkōhyakuhachijūichi Shō has the very rare ability of self-refinement. Oetsu can refine his Zanpakuto, making it more durable and its abilities more potent.
- With each refinement the flames and magma get hotter and deadlier.

Weapon storage
- Hakkōhyakuhachijūichi Shō has the amazing ability to store and transform into 88 different weapons. These weapons have to be crafted and created by Hakkōhyakuhachijūichi Shō itself.
- In Shikai, Hakkōhyakuhachijūichi Shō can be transformed into any of these weapons at any time. The weapons keep their abilities or special properties and are as strong as Oetsu made them.
- If one slot is already occupied, then it is possible to switch out the weapons and designate a new one to that slot.

Abilities Bankai:
Forge Domain
- The single ability of Hakkōhyakuhachijūichi Shō's Bankai is to create a domain that simulates Oetsu's forge. Anything and everything inside this domain is essentially in his forge and in this forge, Oetsu can turn anything ... into anything he wants.
- Everyone that is inside the domain essentially becomes building materials that Oetsu can use to forge with them.
