Romie's pov
"Ha!" Agi laughed out in a mocking tone.
"That pathetic thing can't even handle the weakest man in my army"
"Do not underestimate the power of a determined woman, it's not a far-fetched saying when a lady wants to ruin you even the devil takes lesson" the lady warned sternly.
"You are standing there telling me my downfall will be caused by a wolfless female!"
"That same female made you feel fear after five years" She counted a smug look on her face, Agi bit the insides of his cheeks as he stared darkly at her.
"There has to be a way to stop her, I'll do whatever it takes" The desperation in his voice was so raw I could feel it crawl on my skin.
Why did he see me as such a threat?
Was it possible he couldn't control his feelings towards me?
The heat in my cheeks made me look away as the short kiss we shared flashed through my mind.
I couldn't fathom what he was so afraid of. One look at those beautiful eyes could sweep me off my feet, goosebumps flared on my skin from the mere thought, if only he knew the power he had over me.
"I do not have the answer you seek. I've given out everything I know about this. Maybe if I could meet her I might be able to sense something, it's not a promise just an opinion" she continued.
"I'll bring her to you. I don't care if I have to drag her down here to do that," he swore.
My hands balled into fists as I tried to stop myself from shaking.
"The resentment within you has been harbored for so long you don't know who to blame for your issues"
"I blame myself every day" he looked away and I ducked behind the trees, my heart racing, his eyes were in my direction as he looked away had he managed to spot me?
"Lucinda-" he said, making me let out the breath I didn't know I was holding. The ringing in my ears blocked me from hearing the rest of his statement.
I couldn't stay any longer fearing he would spot me. I was already in his bad books. I didn't want to know what he would do if he found me eavesdropping on his conversation.
I left my spot behind the tree and retraced my steps back to the pack.
When I got to the entrance the guards held me back.
"You look new here, are you lost?" one of them smiled at me menacingly, I felt so irritated!
"Let me go I don't want no trouble" I tried to pull my hand from his but he tightened his grip to the point my wrist ached.
"We know you're the fugitive that the Alpha hates I'm sure he would give us a reward if we place your head at his feet"
"Unless you act nicely that is" the dark hair added and they both cracked up.
"Let me go I don't want trouble" I pulled harder, the people around didn't even spare me a glance it was disheartening.
"Please let me go" I pleaded but all they did was laugh at my attempts.
"The Lady said you should let her go!" a voice cut through the air immediately after my hand was released and they maintained their stance on their posts.
"Zane! Thank goodness you're here" I said in relief rubbing my wrists that were turning red.
"You should be ashamed of yourselves" he spat at the guards then led me into the pack.
"Did they hurt you?" he asked gently, I nodded in disapproval.
"I've faced worst" I shrugged.
"Like last night? Where did you run off to, do you know how worried I was?"
I suddenly felt bad, his concern evident in his tone.
"I'm really sorry"
"No, don't worry about that what happened?" he questioned, I smacked my lips not knowing how to respond.
How was I going to explain the most cruel Alpha in the country was my mate?
Or the fact he only marked me to see me suffer?
And how did I forget the fact he hated me so much for the mere fact I refused to reject him?
Never have I ever heard of such!
Who the hell wanted that, the answer to that was the devil and that was who Alpha Agi was.
"I'm still figuring it out myself, how is your leg?" I asked changing the subject.
"All better thanks to you, you know you should try out to be a doctor or nurse in the pack hospital, that is if you're not planning on returning to your pack anytime soon" I could sense his nervousness on the last part of the statement.
Heaven knows I would want nothing else than to return home fall into my bed and act like this never happened but it seemed I had no such luck.
Agi had left his mark on me and my father would kill me if I returned home unsuccessful.
The only solution to both problems was the demise of Alpha Agi and yet again another dilemma.
"I'm not returning soon but I don't know if being a nurse here is a good idea"
"It is! I still can't believe you're a healer, you should be some celebrity" he sounded so impressed.
I blushed running my hands in my hair.
"What's that on your neck?" Zane asked, leaning in.
"You have been marked?" he uttered so seductively it made a shiver run down my spine, he was so close I could feel his breath on my neck.
"You!" a voice startled me.
I looked in the direction of the source to see Alpha Agi boiling, he stormed towards my direction and I stayed frozen in my spot.
But instead of walking towards me he grabbed a fist full of Zane's clothes.
"Alpha what… In the blink of an eye, he punched Zane in his lower jaw throwing him off balance.
My hands instinctively cupped my mouth as I watched the display petrified.
