Chapter 4: Unseen Power
Jin-Ho and Johan Seong's stare-down lingered in the cold night air, a tense silence filling the space between them.
Johan, the formidable leader of the "God Dog" crew, was a force to be reckoned with.
Jin-Ho knew that challenging someone like him would be nothing short of insanity.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Jin-Ho's face paled as he swallowed his fear. He couldn't afford to make a reckless move.
He had read the webtoon, and he knew that Johan Seong was a monster from the very start, feared by many.
Apologizing was the safest course of action. "Sorry for bumping you," Jin-Ho stammered, his voice quivering with apprehension. "It was an accident."
Johan didn't say a word. Instead, he turned around and continued walking, his pack of loyal dogs following him.
As Johan moved away, the tension lifted, and Jin-Ho let out a sigh of relief, beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
"Phew! What am I thinking?" he muttered to himself, still in shock at his impulsive desire to confront Johan Seong.
With a lingering sense of unease, he continued his journey to his apartment.
Reaching his comfortable apartment, Jin-Ho fumbled for his keys and entered. The interior was tastefully decorated, a far cry from his previous living conditions. He couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for his newfound life.
Deciding to make the most of this, he embarked on a culinary adventure, deciding to cook a famous Korean dish – "Bibimbap."
Jin-Ho gathered ingredients, including a variety of fresh vegetables, perfectly marinated beef, and the essential gochujang sauce.
As he meticulously prepared the dish, he marveled at his newfound culinary skills, courtesy of his system. He sautéed vegetables, expertly seasoned the meat, and arranged the ingredients beautifully in a hot stone bowl. The aroma wafting from the dish was nothing short of heavenly.
Jin-Ho sat down to enjoy his meal, savoring each bite of the flavorful Bibimbap. The satisfaction of cooking such a delicious dish himself filled him with a sense of accomplishment.
While enjoying his meal, he couldn't help but think about the unique abilities of his "system."
He had the power to copy the skills and abilities of others, but he hadn't yet tested it in a real-world scenario.
The thought of trying it out excited him, but he also understood the potential risks and ethical considerations. He was torn between curiosity and caution.
After dinner, Jin-Ho decided to relax and gather his thoughts. He had a plan to make the most of his system, but it needed careful execution.
The idea was to venture out late at night and find some local thugs to observe and copy their abilities.
With his resolve set, he donned black clothing to blend into the night. The dark attire added an air of mystery as he prepared to explore the city's streets.
As Jin-Ho ventured into the night, he scanned his surroundings, searching for any signs of unusual or criminal activities.
He was determined to find a situation where he could intervene and utilize his newfound abilities.
For almost half an hour, he walked through the quiet streets, his eyes sharp and his senses alert. He passed by quiet neighborhoods, a few late-night establishments, and a park that was eerily deserted in the dark.
Finally, he spotted two thugs harassing a woman in a dimly lit alley. They were towering over her, their intentions clear from the fear in her eyes.
The woman was crying, and as Jin-Ho looked at her, he felt a deep sense of empathy. She was suffering, and her eyes pleaded for help.
Memories from his past life, where he had always been someone to help others, flooded into Jin-Ho's mind.
He couldn't stand by and watch someone in distress, even if it meant putting himself in danger.
He stepped forward, his voice carrying through the darkness. "Hey, what are you guys doing to that woman? Whatever it is, you should stop it!"
The two thugs abruptly turned to face Jin-Ho. In the darkness, he struggled to see their faces clearly, but their size and build were intimidating. They burst into laughter, mocking Jin-Ho for his "cringe" and "corny" entrance, for trying to be a "hero."
As their laughter echoed through the alley, Jin-Ho's eyes never left the woman. He saw the desperation in her gaze and knew that he had to act.
His past life's values and his newfound abilities compelled him to intervene.
Without hesitation, Jin-Ho rushed at the two thugs. His movements were swift, but they were uncoordinated.
He threw a punch at the first thug, but the second thug managed to deflect it with a quick kick, throwing off Jin-Ho's balance.
His punches were clumsy, and it was clear he had no knowledge of fighting techniques. Both thugs easily dodged his attacks with their considerable speed.
One of the thugs prepared to strike Jin-Ho with a straight punch aimed at his face, but Jin-Ho's body moved on its own, as if guided by an invisible force.
He instinctively dodged the attack with grace and precision.
Then, something strange happened. A voice resonated in his mind, saying, "The System has successfully copied the attack."
Jin-Ho was baffled but didn't have time to dwell on it. A strange sensation coursed through his body, like an electric current. It wasn't painful, but it felt as though he was absorbing something.
As the thugs prepared to launch another attack, Jin-Ho found his body moving independently. He executed the same attack they had attempted on him earlier – a straight punch. However, he didn't just copy their attack; he had somehow mastered it, delivering the punch with precision and power.
The thugs were caught off guard as Jin-Ho's punch landed with force, sending one of them stumbling backward.
They couldn't believe their eyes. Jin-Ho's once clumsy movements had transformed into skilled and effective strikes.
Jin-Ho sporting a menacing smile as he gazed at the astonished thugs. "Well, this is getting fun!"
