Chapter 3: Innate Abilities

The reason Duyi wanted the heart is because he can suck the blood from it for spiritual energy.

Similar to when you kill a spiritual beast for their monster core, which is the beast's cultivation base inside of it, you can use the monster core to cultivate it into your own spiritual energy.

But you can't instantly finish cultivating it in seconds. The stronger the spiritual beasts, the longer the time needed to cultivate the core.

This wasn't the case for everyone, as some people did it faster than others.

But if someone were to compare the vampire's innate ability to take a heart and suck the blood for spiritual energy to the monster core, the vampire's innate ability is far superior in every way, especially since you'll be able to cultivate the entire cultivation base of the person or beast in seconds, while with monster cores you can only cultivate about 75% before the rest turns to impurities.

Duyi opened his mouth widely, and his canine teeth grew longer and sharper, into fangs stronger than any beast in all the realms.

He bit into the heart, and the blood from the heart slowly began disappearing until the heart turned white.

Once Duyi had finished with the heart, he removed his mouth from it and dropped it on the wolf's body.

Since Duyi was used to drinking blood from the hearts of some of the strongest beings in all of the ten realms, the heart of the wolf tasted terrible on his taste buds, but it did satisfy his hunger.

This wasn't normal for every vampire and only pure-bloods. Pure-bloods have a small appetite, so small that just one heart can fill them up, but the cultivation base of the heart must be within range of their own cultivation base.

In this case, Duyi was only at the 5th Stage of Qi Awakening while the wolf was at the 7th Stage.

This was more than enough to fill his stomach.

A couple of moments after Duyi drained all the blood from the heart, the veins in his body became visible, similar to when he was cultivating his Blood of Hell Cultivation technique.

He sat down in the lotus position and began cultivating the spiritual energy he took from the wolf's heart.

This was what made vampires the apex predators of all the races in the ten realms.

Their innate ability to consume blood from another cultivator's heart and take all of their spiritual energy to convert it into their own spiritual energy.

This was how vampires broke through the cultivation stages so fast.

Eventually, after an hour of cultivating the spiritual energy, a burst of wind escaped from Duyi's body, and his cultivation base soared five stages.

He was now at the peak of the Qi Awakening Stage. What would've taken an average person years to do was achieved in a few hours by Duyi.

'Since I can feel myself nearly about to break through to the Qi Enlightenment Stage, I might as well cultivate an hour or so and breakthrough before I go and search for answers.'

Duyi would spend the remainder of the day breaking through to the Qi Establishment Stage.

Duyi opened his eyes to a night starry sky. The moonlight flashed onto his face, showing his handsome features that would leave most women in a daze.

He stood up to his feet and stretched his arms.

"Now, let's see what I've missed."

Duyi thought leaving this forest would be the easiest thing he'd do since returning, but he has been wandering around for hours and seemed as if he has been going in circles.

'I can't sense anybody's presence. Even if they were miles away, I should still be able to sense something.'

Duyi was wondering what was happening.

The only things he's been sensing the entire time were spiritual beasts that were very close. He did follow them for a little, hoping one of the beasts he followed would lead him out of this forest, but they seemed just as lost as him.

'Is there an array disrupting my senses? Even if I lost all my cultivation, all my experience dealing with arrays should've allowed me to easily bypass this array. Yet, I can't. Whoever made this array must've been a powerful figure, but I would've heard of them if that was the case.'

Duyi pondered about his situation, and he was actually correct. There was an array that was disturbing Duyi's senses. This array was set up to stop beasts from leaving the beast glades, especially since the beast glades are the home to 90% of the beasts in the first realm.

But what Duyi found most confusing was if someone was strong enough to make an array of this caliber, why didn't they make the array only target spiritual beasts and not humans?

Duyi kept on wondering around the forest, hoping he'd find an exit somewhere but kept ending up in the same spot he started.

And just when he felt all hope was lost, he heard chattering nearby.

He dashed over there with full speed as this could be his only chance to leave this place.

Once he found the source of the voice, he saw two white and gold carriages and a group of soldiers fighting a herd of spiritual beasts.

The ten soldiers who were at the peak of Qi Establishment Stage were overwhelming the twenty-five or so spiritual beasts with ease.

Duyi planned on trailing behind them to follow them out of this forest. After an hour of fighting, the soldiers won with just a few minor injuries.

They surrounded both carriages with five people around each and began their trip again.

Duyi followed behind and made sure to erase his presence and cultivation base so they wouldn't sense him.

But then Duyi sensed something was off and felt a sense of danger above his head.

He instantively dodged to the left, and a glowing white sword pierced the ground he was just standing on like tofu.

The door to the carriage at the back opened, and a middle-aged man with blue eyes and blonde hair, wearing a white robe with golden outlines, along with two gold swords creating an X on the front of the robe, exited the carriage.

"What a surprise, you managed to dodge that even though you're only at the early stages of Qi Establishment. Try dodging this," he said.

Duyi was waiting for an attack, but nothing ever happened until his left arm was severed cleanly off his shoulder, and blood gushed out of the wound covering the floor beneath him in red.

The man smiled but put on a serious expression when Duyi's arm healed the next second.

"You're pretty brave for attacking a vampire without fear," Duyi said.

He thought people in the first realm were just idiots since they dared to attack a vampire without an army.

And when the man began laughing out loud, Duyi thought he had a few screws loose.
