Chapter 1: Chapter 1 - A Road to Redemption

The battle was finally over. Kaguya Otsutsuki has been sealed away. All nine tailed beasts are gathered in a circle around a small group of people. These people are Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, Kakashi Hatake, and the Sage of Six Paths himself. Though the spotlight is not shining on our original main character, but on Kakashi, or rather the small remaining amount of chakra within his eyes. At this moment, Kakashi was talking to someone within his subconscious.

"I'm gonna get going soon. I really made a mess out of the Shinobi World. So much that I don't even know what to say to you before I go."

Kakashi, beneath his mask gave the man a smile and said, "We were able to say our goodbyes as friends, not enemies. I got to say goodbye to the old you.. the one who was always late because he was helping others. I couldn't ask for anything more."

The man standing in front of Kakashi was none other than Obito Uchiha, the one who made Kakashi who he is today. The one who was presumably dead, but come to find out he was the masked man with the fake identity of 'Madara Uchiha,' who's only goal was to plunge the world into an infinite dream. Now he stands before him not as an enemy, but as a friend.

Obito looked at Kakashi's smiling face and said, "Thank you, Kakashi." He gave Kakashi the warmest smile he could.

Obito then said. "Well, I'll be going then. I've been keeping Rin waiting for too long."

"You better give her a good excuse for being late." Said Kakashi teasingly.

"I told her I'd be helping you, so I'm sure she'll understand."

Kakashi brought his gaze to the ground. "Oh, I see."

With that, Obito faded away into nothing. Excited to finally see Rin once again, but also sad to leave his best friend behind.

Kakashi looked to where Obito once stood and said, "Obito.. thank you."

Obito then woke up soon realizing he was next to Rin on a wooden bench holding her hand. She was looking off into the distance as if she was admiring a beautiful view. Obito then saw that there was something small and pink on his shoulder. They were underneath a beautiful cherry blossom tree with many sakura petals falling from it. It was so huge that one might be intimidated, but to Obito it gave him a sense of ease, a feeling of safety a feeling that told him he could finally put everything down and just relax. He hadn't felt this way for a long long time. For the first time in years, Obito felt truly happy. Though albeit pretty late, he realized that he was in fact in his child body. Without a doubt he really can say he was Obito Uchiha. Just then, Rin spoke to him.

"You still have something to do don't you?"

Obito was startled and confused. Something to do? He thought he had done everything he can what more can he possibly do? The battle is over isn't it? Isn't it time to rest?

Rin got up from the bench with Obito's hand in hers and dragged him from his sitting position. While being dragged along by Rin he was confused as he realized they were now running towards the beginning of a paved road. Before they stepped onto the road, Rin stopped and looked Obito in the eyes with a beaming expression.

"You can start here." Rin said with a smile.

Obito gave her a quizzical look and said, "Start here? What do you mean? What's going on Rin? I thought we were done."

Rin said nothing and gave Obito a smile and then let go of his hand. As soon as she did, Obito began to move farther away from her, or perhaps she was moved away from him, Obito could not figure out which.

"Rin?! What's going on?! Why are you all the way back there?" Said Obito.

Rin said nothing. It was then Obito realized she was back at the bench beneath the towering cherry blossom tree. Rin changed from her cheerful expression to a slightly more serious one and said,

"You have to go Obito. You can't come back until you've reached the end of that road."

"What?! Rin I don't understand! Why can't I just finally rest? Why can't I just be with you?!"

Obito screamed in confusion, desperately hoping Rin woukd change her mind. Alas, she showed no signs of saying otherwise. Obito knew this, she was always like this from beginning to end. Even in the afterlife now.

To Obito's surprise, Rin began to become transparent. This made Obito panic and he tried to run to her, but no matter how far he ran he wasn't going anywhere. He was still at the beginning of the mysterious road.

Just before Rin completely vanished. She put on her signature cheerful expression while waving to Obito and said,

"I'll be waiting at the end of the road. Don't hurry though, okay?"

With that she completely disappeared.

Obito was confused, his mind was racing trying to figure out what is going on. 'What is happening? I don't want to be alone! Please! Please!'

"Please!"

He screamed the last bit of his thoughts out loud, but no one responded except his echo. He then turned to the long and empty road from what seemed like leaded to nothing. 'I guess I don't have any other choice do I? If Rin really is at the end of this road, then I'll just finish as fast as I possibly can!'

"All right! Then let's go!" Obito shouted.

However as soon as he took a step onto the road..

Everything went black.
