Chapter 5: Chapter 5 - Gharl King

Chapter 5 - Garl King

Skill orbs were rare commodities.

Their purpose was clear. Anyone who got their hands on them would never give them away and if they could, they would immediately use it to strengthen themselves to increase their chance of survival.

The colour of the skill orb on the pedestal was dark green. Kiel was excited.

Usually skill orbs comes in 4 main category;

Green represents Stamina affecting health pool, health recovery and physical endurance.

Blue represents Intellect affecting mana pool, mana recovery, spell power and mental powers.

Yellow represents Agility affecting movement speed, dexterity and flexibility.

Red represents Strength affecting power, defense and skill power.

The darker the colour, the more powerful the skill contained.

Initially he wanted to immediately take the orb but he was wary. Especially of the two statues next to the pedestal.

His years of experience in the tower taught him that while there were many bountiful harvests, there were no free lunches.

Steeling himself and curbing his excitement. He carefully approached the pedestal like a nervous deer.

As he got to the pedestal, he saw a depiction carved around the bottom of the pedestal.

On the front face. It showed a beam of light shining down from a gigantic hand pointing down from the sky toward a gigantic Gharl prostrating in the oasis.

Within the beam of light was an orb suspended in front of the head of the Massive Gharl.

Moving clockwise around the pedestal, on the right, it showed the gigantic Gharl swallowing the orb and its body blew up. Its face was contorted in pain.

Continuing on, he moved to the back. This time the parts of the blown up Gharl was coming together to reconstruct a much smaller body. The orb was still hovering in front of it.

Strangely, Kiel could see fear and indignation on the face of the Gharl while looking at the orb.

Finally on the last side, the picture shows the orb on the pedestal, but the two statues were obviously alive and were fighting off a horde of Gharl heading towards the orb.

After seeing everything, Kiel sat down while pondering on what he should do next.

After a while he called out another prompt

"Tower of Extinction: Hell Clear Progress"

######

Tower of Extinction: Level One.

Hell Clear:

Directly kill all Gharls.(10/60)

Obtain the treasure in the Oasis.

Survive for 2 months 3/60

Reward:

Chosen Weapon upgrade 1 level,

Bonus 1 Character Level.

Bonus Skill upgrade 1 level

######

Fifty more Gharls, and fifty seven more days to go. To top it off, getting the orb might trigger the two statues.

Kiel sat down and started to sort out his conditions and the level clear requirements, and he needed to come up with a game plan.

After about a while he came up with basic goals he needed to do daily:

Kill at least 5 Gharls every other day.

Hunt for Thabits for food

Get the grass and wind them on the statue

Without wasting any more time. He first started to do the easy stuff first.

He went out, got fifty strands of grass and brought them back.

While tightly wounding the grasses around the statues legs and arms, he slit the grass along the fibers to get the sap to seep out and let the sap dry and harden around the statues.

His idea was to completely soak and cover both statues in resin so thick and heavy they will be rendered immobile even if they are reanimated.

Next, he went out to scout for Thabit burrow and Gharl packs then set traps using the grasses and saps to entrap then kill the beasts.

As for killing the statues, he did not even bother to even think about it as the picture depicts the two statues fighting off dozens of Gharls and there is no way he can be powerful enough to get to that power level in this stage unless he used some sort of trick.

Hence just like that, Kiel starts his boring daily routines of cutting grass, winding them around the statues layer by layer, tracking Ghalrs and Thabits, then setting traps to kill those.

Days passed and he took longer than he had anticipated. By day forty, he finally managed to kill another thirty six Gharls meaning there were only fourteen left in the level. As the masacre went on it became harder to find the scattered Gharls.

During this period of time he also discovered a massive horde of Thabits living in a humongous underground cavern. Not one to shy from challenges, he created a trap that will allow him to kill the Thabits in batches to farm the experience points he needed to get stronger.

In those thirty seven days, Kiel killed an additional thirty six Gharls, he had also massacred about 88 Thabits. Netting him 3020 experience points.

Going through more than a dozen Thabit burrows, he found two additional Mana Lode, one gave him 25 mana points and another gave him measly 5 mana points but at his level, every point counted..

Also, he found another 30 Mana Core, totalling his pool to 34 Mana Cores.

He called out his status windows and his hard work for the past 40 days were shown:

Next he reviewed his clear progress again:

14 Gharls lefts and 14 days to go.

Looking at the statues next to the pedestals, he couldn't help at the absurdity of the sight.

Both statues were completely covered in resin and grass up to their neck. Then from the chin up, another round of grass and resin which made it looked like Khrisna's Butter Ball Boulder.

Looking at the strange sight he wondered 'how could the statues' neck still hold up?'

Shrugging his shoulders to clear useless thoughts out of his mind. Struggling with all his might to hold back his desire of getting the orb now as he was still worried. He continued his arduous task for another ten days getting up to the evening of day fifty six.

During which he managed to kill another thirteen Gharls and twelve Thabits. Which netted him another 695 experience points and 8 mana cores, this brought him up to level 8 making him shy 455 experience points from leveling up to level 9 and a total of 42 Mana Cores.

No matter how he had spent the previous 2 days roaming the whole area or lifting the bloodied carcass of a Thabit up high, the last Gharl would not show up and there were no more Thabits.

After giving it a thought he decided to just go for the orb instead of waiting till the last moment. But for now, he will sleep.

Next morning he will go for the orb full fresh and ready.

After all, he only needed 1 Gharl and about 4 days left. He had also stopped adding resin to the statues the past two days and those resins are now hard as rock.

Looking at his status, he add up the following, 1 points to Stamina, 3 points to Agility, 8 Points to Strength,

The system immediately prompts:

"Agility stat has reached 20 points, Climbers acquired a skill:

Fleet Footed(2): Increase Movement speed 20%"

"Strength stat has reached 20 points, Climbers acquired a skill:

Power Boost(2): Active skill to increase strength by a factor of 1.2, Cost 20 mana. Last 5.5 minutes, Cooldown 55 minutes"

Automatically, his status windows flashed.

The next morning Kiel got up early, washed himself, ate a filling breakfast and walked to the pedestal.

After checking up his gears. Kiel decided to wait no more.

Kiel calmly walked up the pedestal and grabbed the orb.

######

Skill Orb

Extreme Regeneration(S): Increased regeneration of cells and bones. Can regenerate lost limbs or organs except, brain and heart.

Can not level up

######

Kiel screamed in ecstasy and without much thought, immediately learned the skill.

As soon as he did, he felt a pleasurable vibration throughout his whole body and at the same time, the two statues at the sides started to tremble. Sniggering to himself. He leapt up and did a split kick on both the big resin boulder that was only one meter apart.

He heard two loud resounding cracks and a sweet sweet prompt.

"Guardian Puppet died, you gain 250 xp"

"Guardian Puppet died, you gain 250 xp"

"Level Up. You are now level 9

You gained:

All Stat +1

Free stat + 2"

He immediately leveled up and hit level 9. Over one month of effort is absolutely worth it.

However, before he could revel in satisfaction, an even bigger tremor rippled throughout the oasis.

Turning around, Kiel felt utter despair as he saw a mountain like humongous Gharl rising from underground.

Roaring in towards the sky and everything was blown away by the sound shockwave that even the resin mountains were sent rolling away.
