Chapter 7: Chapter 7 War
"The enemy are coming!"
"What!"(2x)
Sarah and Scarlet's shocked voice was heard on a closed room located on the study of the Master of the palace.
"To be precise, the one who would be attacked is the Cecilion Empire and the enemy is the United Southern Kingdoms." The one who was speaking was the father of both Sarah and Scarlet and also the King of the Evergreen Kingdom, King Raphael Evergreen Griffin II.
King Raphael ruled the Kingdom for about 23 years, was crowned by the age of 19 when his late father, Griffin I died whit an illness of heart disease. Griffin II managed his Kingdom with an ordinance that benefited not only the nobles but also the commoners.
The King was loved by all and was worshipped as the most fair King of all. But now, here he sit in front of his two daughters, with a heavy heart.
"Oh! So aren't we safe? Since the one who would be at war are not us." Scarlet breathe a sigh of relief as they have dodged a tragedy.
"No, we're in fact in danger. We can't even just watch the war unfold, because we can't escape." Sarah cut off Scarlet's celebration .
"Yes, you sister is right. We can't escape." Griffin II stood up dejectedly.
Both sister saw their father who was once an energetic man when they were still kids. Now, as time have changed all, they only saw a King who carried the entire burden of the all his subjects. A man who was 42 years old, with wrinkles, white strands of hair and heavy eye bags, whose appearance doesn't match how a King should be.
"The United Southern Kingdom's ships path that they took is on the direction of our Kingdom."
"It was a sudden news that surprised everyone, even the newly throned King. Much to our surprise, the United Southern Kingdoms have been prepared at the start when the late emperor's news of his illness was spread.
"Isn't that 3 years ago? Not even the spies of the empire have gotten a little news!?" Sarah questioned his father as she was trying to get all information from him.
"Their might be but as we all know even if we are affiliated with the Cecilion Empire it doesn't mean that they will share all. Or maybe the news was cut off by the nobles of the empire. They might have already on cahoots and are ready to join the enemy." With a wry smile the King slowly sat down on his chair.
"Dad, this might be a problem. As I know the United Southern Kingdom has an advantage on naval battle. With 7 Southern Kingdoms ships all together, we wouldn't won the war. They'll just bulldoze through and plunder our Kingdom within a day." Scarlet's analysis worsened the mood of the entire room. "Even their are reinforcements, we can last for another day. Unless if you disregard the casualties dad, then I advise to let the enemy land and force them to land. With the forts, our soldiers can fight with their best but victory is still slim."
All three of them fell silent after Scarlet provided her strategy. In fact already knew that anything they do can still be their defeat.
"Well how about you two should go first to the Cecil-"
"NO!(2x)" Without waiting for their father to finnish his sentence, the both strongly objected.
"Father, I'm a princess of the Kingdom and I'm also proud to be an Evergreenian! Even if I don't know how to fight I still can help heal the wounded, help the logistics and organize the civilians! I won't turn back to the place where I grew up!" Sarah's gaze to his father contains a will that won't accept her father's suggestion.
"DAD! I've trained with all the soldiers, studied how to fight with a sword, a bow and a spear! Studied horsemanship and also strategies that can help in a battle and even in a war! I won't be a coward who will escape and let everyone die because of my weakness!" Scarlet stood up and smashed her hands on the table looking at her father and also won't accept no for an answer.
