Chapter 3: Chapter 3: One-eyed

Wenyu stood on the top floor of the residential building, overlooking the corpses scattered on the ground. Ignoring the filthy bloodstains and severed limbs, he leaned against the railing, gasping for breath.

After bidding farewell to the young neighbor upstairs, Wenyu embarked on a frenzy of clearing out zombies. First, the fifth floor, then the sixth, and finally the seventh.

With some close calls along the way, and after clearing the seventh floor, he had finally accumulated the required points.

"Check points."

"Ding, remaining points: 12."

The effort was worth it. In the previous apocalypse, it took Wenyu three months to accumulate enough points to transition into a professional. How about this time?

Just a few hours. This was his capital. Wenyu understood that becoming stronger was the top priority. The stronger he became, the better equipped he would be to face the challenges of the apocalypse, especially as the magical calamity approached six months later.

Squinting his eyes, Wenyu looked at the seemingly peaceful city outside. For the first time, the apocalypse didn't seem so terrifying to him.

Returning to his rented apartment on the third floor, Wenyu quickly consumed some food and lay down on the bed in silence, resting for a while. As the fatigue gradually faded, Wenyu picked up his weapon and headed outside.

The corridor was littered with bodies, and the mutated zombies' appearances closely resembled humans, casting an eerie atmosphere on the entire floor.

Wenyu was immune to the scene before him. Even a mountain of corpses wouldn't deter him; as long as his life wasn't threatened, he would charge forward.

Casually breaking the finger bones of a corpse with a kick, Wenyu descended to the ground floor and walked towards the community's exterior.

The distance from his building to the community gate was approximately a hundred meters, which was not far in normal times. However, after the apocalypse, this distance became treacherous.

Countless body parts and blood covered the short path, with at least a dozen zombies scattered around, either feasting or wandering aimlessly.

Wenyu silently tightened his grip on the weapon and stared at the glowing pillar near the community gate. That thing was his hope—the exchange pillar, the hope for humanity against mutated beasts and monsters.

Humans had the upper hand over zombies, thanks to their intellect. Wenyu used the spear to knock on the door of the corridor. The distant sound attracted zombies, and around ten of them swayed towards him.

While systematically killing them, Wenyu noticed that the number had exceeded ten. He felt his weapon tightened; however, facing slow-moving targets, Wenyu was confident he could handle them without getting surrounded.

After consecutive stabs drained a significant amount of his stamina, the last zombie fell before him.

"Ding, gained another ten points."

Seeing the points skyrocket, Wenyu couldn't help but smile. Stepping over the blood, he approached the corridor entrance, noticing a reduced number of zombies outside. Wenyu grabbed his weapon, quietly preparing to charge out.

The remaining zombies posed little threat to Wenyu. As he advanced towards the glowing pillar, his enthusiasm intensified.

"It's almost time. Just a little more."

Swiftly killing another zombie, Wenyu estimated the distance to the pillar—only fifty meters.

With every stride, the distance decreased.

Suddenly, a terrifying low growl echoed, interrupting Wenyu's fantasy of life in the apocalypse.

Wenyu's pupils contracted; the last obstacle—zombies—was sent flying by a gray shadow. Subsequently, a beautiful head soared into the air, and dark red blood splattered everywhere. The pale eyes stared directly at Wenyu.

A chill ran from his forehead to his lower body, and he stood frozen in place.

Because Wenyu saw what killed the zombie.

It was a dog, a dog he was very familiar with.

In the community, people named it "One-eyed" because it only had one eye. The other eye was blinded by a man-made injury when it arrived. Wenyu was well acquainted with this dog.

About a year ago, this stray dog appeared near the community, with a terrifying eye wound, mottled gray fur, and a limp hind leg. Even the most compassionate girls kept their distance from this intimidating stray dog.

Within a short time, One-eyed, despite being half a meter long initially, became the best-fed among the stray animals. In this environment, it didn't take long for it to evolve.

Originally just a meter long, One-eyed had tripled its size. Although its fur was still as ugly as before, the exposed skin was tight, and no one could underestimate the explosive power of the muscles beneath.

The massive body brought immense strength. Earlier, One-eyed's pounce sent Wenyu's dream lover flying three meters away, and then its sharp teeth bit off the zombie's head.

Wenyu knew clearly that this despised stray dog had evolved.

A first-level mutant creature.

For Wenyu, an ordinary person, the current One-eyed was a death god.
