Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Sometimes the Truth is Hard to Believe
In a plain room without any decorations, a table is set with a young boy and girl still in school uniforms seated. Two police officers, sipping tea, are questioning them.
In about half an hour, they recounted the incident and gave their opinions on it. After that, Ji Yun and Xu Lin are led out. They expressed their gratitude to the police who were present.
In the lobby, despite the darkening sky, some people are waiting—teachers, including the familiar faces of the class teacher and Su Qingwan.
"How did it go?"
Su Qingwan approached first, and the stern expression on the class teacher's face also eased a bit as he inquired about them with concern.
"The police reviewed the surveillance and questioned us. The other party is fully responsible. As it involves students, there's no physical violence, and I'm not injured."
"They can only criticise and educate him. His parents need to come to the police station to take him home."
"We can also choose to involve our parents and negotiate compensation."
"Though we're the victims, let's not involve our parents in this. Ji Yun also doesn't want to bring her parents."
"Of course, the police will discuss with the school how to handle it. We won't interfere."
Xu Lin explained systematically. The class teacher nodded and patted his shoulder.
"It's good that it's resolved. It's a minor matter, but it's best to go check it out tomorrow to see if there's anything wrong."
Just as he finished speaking, they saw a director waving his hand not far away.
"Ms. Su, I need to go over something first; could you arrange for these two kids to go home?"
"Sure."
The class teacher quickly left, while Su Qingwan looked at Xu Lin, who still had a calm expression.
"Xu Lin, Ji Yun, let me drive you home. You can leave your bikes in the bike shed."
"No need; it's not a big deal; I'll go back by myself. You can take Ji Yun home," Xu Lin declined.
"No, I'll go back by myself," Ji Yun, who had been silent with her head down, finally spoke up.
"Well, many people in our class are concerned about you, but for the safety of the students, the school wants all students to leave the school area. Are you sure you don't want me to drive you?" Su Qingwan asked.
"No need; we're almost adults," Xu Lin said, glancing at Ji Yun beside him, who seemed to have something to say.
"Alright then." Su Qingwan nodded, feeling a bit disorganised in her mind as she knew she had a big battle to face that evening.
As the two of them walked out of the police station, their bicycles were parked outside.
He hopped onto his bike and saw Ji Yun taking her time, so he called out to her. "Don't worry about it; if there's anything, we can talk on the way!"
"Okay!" Ji Yun responded.
Ji Yun also uncommonly raised her voice and then got on her bike, following behind him. After crossing the road, they entered the bike lane.
Xu Lin saw her approaching and automatically positioned Ji Yun on the inside, riding on the left side at a slower speed.
"If there's something, say it now."
"Xu Lin, please don't do this again in the future, okay?"
"Huh?"
Xu Lin was also taken aback, not quite understanding. He thought she was going to thank him, but instead, she started with "don't do this again."
Before he could fully grasp the situation, he realised that Bai Yueguang (White Moonlight) was still Bai Yueguang. Her bike came to a stop, her eyes glistening with a hint of tears.
"What if you get hurt?!"

Xu Lin quickly took out the tissue she gave him and handed it back to her.
"But what if something happens? What if you hit your head?"
She pouted, looking displeased, while Xu Lin continued to smile, feeling a bit tipsy as if he had been drinking.
"Yeah, you're right. But in such situations, there's no other way. If I didn't come over, who else would help you?"
"I know, so I'll be tougher in the future; it's my fault."
"Okay, okay, it's nobody's fault; it's all that guy's fault."
Xu Lin saw her taking the blame upon herself, realising that this girl was too kind-hearted. Being too kind-hearted might not be a good thing in society.
"Ji Yun, besides, I wasn't hurt. When he slapped me, it wasn't the sound of my face; it was the sound of me hitting his hand."
"Hmm?"
"When he slapped, didn't I block it? Then I pushed back and hit the back of his hand. It was actually a sound of hitting backward before hitting forward, but I don't think anyone noticed."
"You're really something, but don't fight with others in the future."
"I know, nowadays, who still resorts to violence? We're in a civilised society."
"When I came to help you, Li Bin and the others went to the police station to find the police."

"You wouldn't have come if there weren't so many people, right?" Ji Yun stabilised her emotions and said it jokingly.

"She's working overtime today, and my dad drives a taxi, so he's busy until late every day. Xu Lin, where do you live? If it's not on the way, I'll just go back by myself."
"I live in Jinxui Mansion."
"You live in Jinxui Mansion?!"
"What's wrong?"
"I also live in Jinxui Mansion. I've seen you heading west after school many times, but we've never crossed paths. Considering the timing, we should have bumped into each other at the south gate. And why do you always head towards the west after school?"

She was about to agree, but changed her mind. "Let's go back together. But if we come to school together in the morning, people will gossip; there is no need for that."

"Can I ask you a question?"

"Huh? Tell me, and I'll go to school with you tomorrow."
