Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Becoming A Mage

A month had passed after Arthur's awakening.

After our house had been destroyed, we had to stay at a nearby Inn. Luckily however, father had managed to contact some of his friends to help him rebuild our house.

The house was rebuilt surprisingly quickly. Truly shows the magnificence of magic in this world, so convenient!

I also had my birthday with Arthur when we both turned 3 years old. Both me and Arthur were given a sword as presents, which I was grateful for and hugged them in gratitude. We even had cake, which I was a little sceptical of as it was completely black and looked burnt. I was hesitant to try it, but I didn't want to make them feel bad so I gave it a taste. But surprisingly, it didn't taste too bad.

Mother has also began to teach me and Arthur to read and write. We both had managed to surprise her as we took in all the information and remembered pretty much everything she said. I was cheating a little as I have my memories of my past life, but hey! I did manage to learn a completely new language in only a few months, by myself no less!

My brother was being a genius as usual, learning everything quickly. Other than our house being destroyed and rebuilt, I am currently on the last step to becoming a mage!

I was currently outside our house, a good distance away so I don't destroy it like Arthur. It wasn't too far, so when I awaken my mana core, my parents would probably realise that I have awakend. I see no reason to hide this from them. They are my new family afterall, it wouldn't sit right with me if I hide things from them. Plus, even my brother had awakened. I can't have my little brother surpassing me now, should I?

Casting my thoughts aside for now, I closed my eyes as I began pulling on the last bit of mana to awaken.

Concentrating, I began moving it as I guided it towards the centre of my abdomen–a little above it. As it slowly gravitated towards where all the other bits of mana are, my anticipation rised.

As it was about to reach its destination, the mana surrounding me began to surge and move violently. I then noticed my mana core had completely formed as it took the form of a black, crystal ball.

It felt as if only an instant had passed as I opened my eyes. I noticed that the world seemed more vibrant. The sky seemed more bluer than usual, whilst the trees and grass had a more verdant look to them. As I slowly gravitated to the ground whilst my eyes slowly adjusted, I noticed that I've destroyed everything around me... All the trees that have once surrounded me had been completely devastated whilst a crater was formed underneath me...

Good thing I did this outside...

Oh, father is also here. He looked shocked as he stared at me with his mouth wide-open.

I'll just smile and wave...

REYNOLDS LEYWIN'S POV:

I'm extremely happy right now! I can't believe I have two amazing sons. When Arthur awakened, my joy reached it's highest peak. Having my child be awakened as a mage is truly the happiest moment a father can have! He even awakened below the age of 3! That's simply unprecedented!

Everyday, I was always itching to teach my sons all about magic and start their training. I would even let them play around with wooden sticks and teach them a little about my past as an adventurer so I can brainwa... I mean give them valuable information to use for the future!

When I found out that Art became an augmenter like his old pops, I nearly cried with tears of joy!

I truly have the best sons in the world! Art was definitely going to be an amazing mage when he grows up, and Tori would definitely have equally high achievements, I just know it!

I just hope Tori can awaken as a mage too like his brother. Could you imagine that? Having two sons as genius mages that awakened at around the age of 3! No, no. I can't place such high expectations on Tori, I would be happy as long as he grows up to be a promising young man!

I'm contemplating on teaching Art the basics on how to manipulate mana, but I don't want Tori to feel left out. Perhaps I could just let him train alongside Art with his endurance and strength training.

I was contemplating on what to do with my sons before I suddenly heard an extremely loud explosion just outside the house.

*BOOM!*

WHAT!??

I was startled, but quickly calmed myself down as I quickly left the house to see what it was.

I jogged towards where the noise had come from. As I swiftly reached the source of the sound... I saw it. I was once again left in disbelief and mouth agape.

You can't be serious... Both my sons are one in a millenium geniuses?

Haha... This is too good to be true.

I saw my son in the middle of the crater, looking as if he was taking in his surroundings. I think he noticed me as I saw his eyes locked onto mine before giving a gentle smile with a light wave of his hand. His eyes looked more vibrant as I can even notice it from here. I might just be imagining things, but did his eye just flash gold for a second?

ARTORIAS LEYWIN'S POV:

Nearly a year has passed after my awakening.

During this time, my father had taught me and Arthur on how to manipulate mana whilst also starting our training. As both me and Arthur were augmenters, we had been training our body lightly as we couldn't spar due to our age.

Alongside this, we would take reading and writing lessons with mother.

When I had free time after all my lessons, I would usually just spend some time with Arthur, usually just reading books next to eachother.

The year had went by rather quickly with not too much happening, when my father spoke up when we were having dinner.

"Honey, I think it's time we get Tori and Art a proper mentor."

...

*clang*

The sound of a fork hitting a plate was heard, drowning the silence before mother replied.

"What? Reynolds! Artorias and Arthur isn't even four yet! No! Besides, you said if our child was an augmenter, you'd be able to teach them!" Mother spoke with evident desperation.

"I also never expected our son, both of them, to be this much of a prodigy in mana manipulation. Who has ever heard of an awakening at the age of three?" Father responded a lot more calmly.

"But that means both of them will have to leave home! They're only four, Reynolds! We can't have them leave home at such an early age!"

"You don't get it. When I observed Tori and Art's body while they meditated, I couldn't help but feel that all of this was natural to them. Alice honey, I'm holding our sons back by trying to teach them something they can do in their sleep."

As they continued their quarrelling, I was simply just enjoying my food whilst Arthur seemed to be playing with his.

After a few minutes of quarrelling, our father–not being able to argue against mother–had turned to me and Arthur before asking for our opinion.

"Tori, Art, this is concerning you two, so you both have a say in this as well. How would you feel about going to a big city and having a teacher?"

I contemplated a little before I was about to give a response, however Arthur beat me to it.

"Can I at least try meeting some mentors and have them see if I need to be tutored or not?"

*Silence*

A few seconds of silence continued after Arthur's reply before I heard mother mutter something about having us get our mana core and channels tested, with our father agreeing.

After our dinner, the entire family started preparing for the next day. It was a journey via horse-drawn carriage through the Grand Mountains to something called a teleportation gate which will get us into a city called Xyrus. The journey would take around 3 weeks.

It also seems we would be travelling alongside my father's friends who were the ones that help rebuild our house. They were apparently my father's ex-party members during his adventuring days.

My mother and father packed all the necessities while I simply took my wooden sword and a few books to keep me busy during the journey. Arthur also had the same idea as me.
