Chapter 2: = 010 =

'Could humanity really defeat an invasion if it happened?'

'Well, you make that question sound as if we lack the fundamental understanding of War? For years we have fought countless battles, WWI and WWII, are key examples of invasion type scenario's-'

'I think her question was misinterpreted Mr Smith, I think what everyone here wants to know, here at the science brio- is, if an unknown life force was to attack. Could we win?'

'*cough* well if it's other worldly beings you're referring to, in simple words, no-'

"Run! Don't look back! Just keep running!" Screamed a mother as she pulled her young son behind her. In the background people seemed to be in shambles, screaming, holding dead loved ones and being killed mercilessly.

A weird mechanism that branched out across the sky seemed to covered the city as unknown beings dropped from it. These creatures were humanoid enough but had no sense of emotion nor did they talk. Their intention was to simply purge or so people thought.

Their bodies were covered in metal that seemed to morph into un-humanlike counterparts in certain circumstances. Once an arm could convert into a blade and slice a woman's head from her shoulders in a clean swoop.

Running away was impossible even when it was screamed, their legs contorted to become thinner and lighter, fast enough to charge and plunge into the chest, pulling forth the human heart.

The boy watched in terror as this creature disfigured his mother before his eyes. Unable to process, the unknown beings humanoid head turned to him.

His fear was so much that soiling his underwear was an understatement for it. Shaking was impossible, no movement, hoping, praying? Maybe, maybe it might let him live?

Unable to know it's thoughts the boy stood still for his life, not even breathing. The creature came closer, what could be called it's face right in front of him.

It's face then started to contort as well as it's body, opening up a gap symmetrically cutting itself in half almost? The inside wasn't empty, what appeared to be it's brain and organs was on full display. But that wasn't what the boy focused on. No, it was it's long fingers that had curled around his small frame and were slowly feeding him into an empty space within itself!

No words, only fear as the creature slowly pieced itself together with a living human inside! As if accomplished it ran so fast that if you blinked you might of missed it. The boy was squished between the organs as if in the chamber of the absent stomach. It was then he started to cry, the small space as the creature moved caused motion sickness. But the humanoid alien creature didn't let up as it swung it's body up the branched mechanical ship in the sky.

Suddenly the movement stopped, the boy opened his eyes, he'd vomited on himself it seemed, not that he could remember.

"m..m….mo-ther…" he softly croaked as the alien creatures body once again parted from the middle and he was retrieved by a slimmer humanoid who's head was mostly attached to what appeared to be the flooring in long, thinnish tubes.

"Do not be afraid" it spoke to him, shock, horror, confusion came upon the boys face. For how did this humanoid alien creature know English?

"This may not make sense now, but we were people too once." The seven year old couldn't comprehend what he was hearing?

Them? Human? It had to be a sick joke!

"This world must die so that others can live, you are young, the future. You will avenge us and those below who have perished for your sake" it's voice was enchanting but hollow, void of emotion but somehow sounded pained. The creature walked up to a device and put the boy inside before closing him in. Suddenly sliver, liquid, shining substance began to fill the chamber the boy had just been put in.

The boy feeling hopeless asked "W-will… I d-die?"

The creature about to leave turn it's slender shaped body, one that looked feminine but not replied, "Yes…" the boy hiccuped, through it all he was still going to die? Even though he was young, he knew what that was. "But only for now."

'what'? He thought but the substance in his chamber was already covering his mouth. Holding his breath he watched the creature walk away as what seemed to be more creatures bringing children to it.

suddenly it was dark, no noise, nothing.

he couldn't hold out now,

he thought about his mother but images of her being dismantled ruined them. Letting go he opened his mouth the liquid coursed through him to his lungs choking him.

His vision blurred, his world had just ended.

"Do we have to check this? I feel like there's nothing here!" Boredom laced words were spoken as she walked accompanied by three others. They all worn equipment ready for battle with technological advanced breathing masks and other devices.

"You know you didn't need to come with us. You could have just stayed in Ydarlis" Spoke up a male companion as the woman scoffed at him.

"Oh please, if I didn't come you would've wondered away again to a brothel house on the outskirts Cain"

"You Bitc-"

"Cain, Melda, enough! I would like to finish checking this World and confirming our mission without you two screeching for once!" Shouted another Man as the woman next to him sighed.

"whatever" the two of them spoke in unison.

"What exactly happened here anyway?"

"Invasion most likely, from the reports it wasn't a system arrangement"

"You're telling me all this destruction wasn't caused by the system?" Cain enquired in disbelief.

"It may have had something to do with a God?" Melda cut in.

"Not likely, Gods still have their rules to follow, an entire world and timeline gone would be too noticeable. This world would have been players like us right now and have gone through trails if it wasn't gone already."

"Matheus I think I found something."

"Sailo, what is it?"

"My device is picking up a disturbance down here" Salio replied as Matheus and the others made their way over to a medium sized opening going below the surface.

"Could it be a dungeon?"

"highly unlikely considering the system would of told us. Not to mention-" tapping on her devices screen she spoke again, "there's an error 010 in this area."

"I've never heard of an error 010 before?" Melda spoke to herself in question but the others hearing it also agreed.

"Wait is the system functional right now?!" As if to test the theory Matheus immediately clicked on his wristband and his status appeared. Sighing in relief to see it.

"yeah… it is, shit that scared me for a second. Is you're device defective Salio?" He questioned to which he got a cold glared. "Right, right, you're right, why would it be? You're too paranoid to have bad working equipment. Does that mean down there is possibly a dead zone?"

"Could be off grid that even the system doesn't know what's there, it could be worth checking."

"No! Absolutely not! As much as I hate the System and the Gods, going down there for a deadzone is not worth it! We should just go back to our world and report that this is officially an apocalyptic world." Melda spoke as she assured her answer but nodding her head forward a few times.

"Shut up Melda, go back to Ydarlis if you're going to be a bitch." Hissing at the comment she glared at Cain.

"For Christ sake, shut up both of you!" Snapping Matheus glared at them both as they 'hmph' in disagreement. "I'm stuck with two year olds"

"heh" Salio snickered as Matheus sighed.

"Cain, Melda, if you don't want to be apart of this mission anymore return now, Salio and I will complete it. As much as I acknowledge having a deadzone may pose a problem, we must fulfil the mission entirely. Considering the fact that Gods can't come here is one strange thing, the fact the system doesn't know anything is even crazier."

"Sorry Matheus, I'll stay" spoke up Cain with his palm rested on the back of his neck in awkwardness.

"yeah sorry" Melda spoke softly after.

"I'm going to go down, that way we can avoid who is and isn't going down."

"Matheus-"

"I'm the strongest here and should be only mildly unaffected without the system. The rest of you simply be look out, if I don't come back within an hour assume the worse and go back and report."

looking at each other they agreed as Matheus put on another breathing mask.

"set a timer now and if I don't come out, leave immediately." Getting on his hands and knees, he tied a rope to his waist and set a device upon the dirt. Immediately it clamped into the dirt fiercely, checking it he tugged it and then slowly but surely fed himself through the hole that he could just barely fit through.

knowning he wasn't going to have any communication he began to crawl down.
