Chapter 5: Damn Mosquitoes

(Asahi POV)

"What the hell am I looking at?"

Before me stood a dirt house with a single glass block for a window and an oak door, probably one of the most hideous homes I've ever seen.

"It's the house" Saitama said with a deadpan expression.

'Note to self, don't let Saitama build the house ever again' I sigh and go back to mining and let Saitama continue with his questionable building practices.

The mine is quite deep, taking a while to reach the bottom. Holding a torch, I explore the dark cave in search of ore. Soon, I stumble upon a vast pit of lava lighting up the area.

My breath stops as I spot something at the far end of the pool—a distinct grey and blue block. 'Diamonds.' Quickly building a cobblestone bridge to get across. I finally reach the coveted ore and mine it with a motion of my pickaxe.

Diamonds in hand, I journey back to the surface. By the time I get out it's already night. 'This isn't good' running back as fast as possible. I see the dirt house on the horizon and Saitama still adding more blocks. But behind him, a creeper closes in, Saitama completely oblivious to the impending danger. Then a message rings.

Saitama was blown up by creeper

'This is going to be a long playthrough'

————————-

It has been a week since I first came into this world.

Recently my involvement with Vaccine Man lead me to becoming 12th of A-Class. Although I wasn't credited with the kill and neither was Saitama.

'Wait, did they think King killed Vaccine Man? Oh, that poor bastard" The realization raised numerous questions, particularly about how King managed to get close to the battle without meeting his death. I could only chalk it up to his supernatural luck.

Reflecting on that fight, I pondered, 'I wonder when I will get my hero name?' My future hero name has been lingering in the back of my mind for the past week. All I can do is wait patiently.

The only other noteworthy event was the appearance of the giant monster Marugori. Although I wasn't present in the area to stop him, Saitama defeated him.

Moving on, my training began. The issue with weights has been somewhat solved. I have resorted to lifting abandoned buildings. This part of Z city has been abandoned for a few years, so I don't have to worry about disrupting the public.

Although, the quiet atmosphere in Z City is unsettling me.'The house of Evolution should be making a move soon, I need to be on the lookout' Currently, I find myself at Saitama's apartment, passing time by playing video games.

To my surprise, games from my previous world are available here, allowing me to play games like Minecraft. It seems to be one of the games Saitama struggles with.

"We interrupt this program for breaking news. A large swarm of mosquitoes has been sighted in Z City" The TV suddenly flips to a news station showing picturesque of dead animals.

"Mummified remains of attacked farm animals have also been found. If you encounter a swarm of mosquitoes flee immediately."

"It seems that we now have a mosquito outbreak" Saitama comes back into the room with an green elephant watering can.

"Yes, although I have a feeling that these mosquitoes won't be around for long"

Saitama heads to the patio to water his lone cactus. Suddenly, loud clapping breaks the silence. After a while, Saitama returns inside, sporting a visible tick mark on his head.

Buzzzz.....Buzzzzzzz

A lone mosquito buzzes around Saitama, surviving all attempts to squash it. The movements were so quick that all I could see were afterimages.

"Are you losing... to a bug?"

"Shut up! I'd like to see you try killing that damn mosquito!"

"Fine, I'll handle this." Focusing on the mosquito, I prepare to catch it between my hands. A loud clap echoes as my hands collide.

Buzzz Buzzzz

The pesky insect slips through my fingers unscathed. Thinking it was a fluke, I clapped again, attempting to squash the bug. Once more, it flew away with no signs of damage.

'Time to get serious.' My arms take on a dark shade of black as armament haki envelops them. I clap once more.

Buzz Buzz

'How? Why won't you die?' A rapid succession of booming claps assault the mosquito, yet all attempts fail to kill the insect.

"Stupid bug! You asked for this." I draw back my hands, focusing on the bug. A sudden burst of Conqueror's haki reverberates throughout the room, shaking everything, and the mosquito crashes to the ground.

"You got it." Saitama seemed surprised

"Now, since that's over—"

Buzz Buzzz

To my horror, the mosquito rises from the ground and hovers near my face, almost as if it's challenging me.

'This means war.' Locked in a showdown of strength with the bug, I brace myself. Meanwhile, Saitama is just relieved that the bug is no longer bothering him.

Somewhere else in Z City

A theif breaks into a store, leaving the place with a large supply of stolen goods. He laughs as he exits.

"Thanks to that warning, they're all empty…Like someone's going to die from a mosquito bite. What's losing a little blood if I get all this?"

As he finished a black swarm of mosquitoes passed right by him, throwing his beanie flying into the air. "The wind?" he asked baffled at what happened.

While his back was turned a larger swarm appeared and ran up his body. The swarm swiftly surrounded his entire body. The mosquitoes cling to his skin.

Screams of agony fill the air, as thousands of mosquitoes pierced the thief's skin, sucking his blood. In no time, all that remained was a dried-up corpse.

The various swarms of mosquitoes soon converge into a ball in the sky. At the center, A tall, white, humanoid monster controlled the insects, collecting all the blood into her body.

"Come on. You guys. That wasn't nearly enough. Go get some more for me!"

"Target acquired"

A large sea of flames surged towards the monster, Mosquito Girl, causing her to pause her commands and leaving her irritated at the sudden intrusion.

"I see. You make them suck the blood, then take it for yourself."

"You must be controlling the mosquitoes via some sort of signal. That would explain their mysterious behavior."

"So if I were to get rid of you, would the swarm disperse too?"

A man spoke, dressed in a white t-shirt and blue jeans. However, most notably, he bore robotic features: shiny metal skin and piercing black and yellow eyes. He was the cyborg, Genos.

"Ha ha, our next meal is here. Go drain him dry." A swarm of mosquitoes rushed towards Genos.

"Incinerate."

A sphere of flames enveloped Genos, incinerating all the insects. Mosquito Girl hovered in the air, shock visible on her face.

"I'm going to eliminate you. Stay where you are," Genos declared, pointing his arm, prepared to unleash more fire. At his words, Mosquito Girl snapped out of her trance and chuckled.

"You, eliminate me. Go on and try!"

Immediately the battle began, as Genos uses the surrounding buildings to push himself closer to engage. He then launched into the air on a path straight to collide with Mosquitoe Girl.

Launching a swift blow to her face, Genos found himself countered by a slash to his back. Both exchanged attacks until Genos managed to block her claws.

A glint flickered in his eyes as the booster in his arm glowed blue with power. The whirring sound of the booster spinning grew louder until.

Booom!

The small explosion pushes both attackers back. While Mosquito Girl maintained her flight, Genos was propelled into a nearby building. Using the moment to regain his footing, he propelled himself back into the fight.

However, this time, Mosquito Girl was ready for the incoming assault. Her long left arm clashed against his, leaving Genos vulnerable as she strikes back with a downward hit throwing him straight to the ground.

Genos skillfully rotated his arms to slow his descent, mitigating the impact as he landed on the street after leaping off the building. He slid on the pavement without taking too much damage.

As soon as he found his footing, Genos raised his arm, preparing to unleash another blast of flames at the monster.

"Incinerate"

A stream of fire erupted from Genos' palm, hurtling toward Mosquito Girl. However, she swiftly dodged the attack. Genos persisted, firing multiple streams in her direction, but she evaded them all, rapidly closing the distance.

Clang!

Mosquito Girl flew past, landing a hit on Genos. His right arm lay atop her extended horn. Brimming with confidence, she laughed.

"Maybe a leg next?... Ugh!"

Abruptly, she felt a strong tug on her legs. Glancing backward, she realized her body now lacked both of her legs.

"Huh, where are my legs?"

Genos threw her legs aside, maintaining eye contact, goading her to attempt another attack. Mosquitoe Girl gasped at the sight and tried to retreat from battle.

"Impossible. You cannot escape from me"

Genos fired a large fireball at her retreating figure. Unfortunately for him, a large swarm of mosquitoes formed around her and took the brunt of the attack.

Just as she flew further away, seemingly about to escape, a man suddenly appeared above her, his leg hurtling toward her head. The action happened so quickly that she had no time to react.

Pew...….Boom!

In a flash of light, she was immediately struck down, crashing directly into the pavement, sending cracks and dust scattering all over the road.

The man, dressed in a yellow hoodie and black sweatpants, landed on the ground. Genos rushed over, halting as his eyes scanned the newcomer.

"Hero: Asahi, A-Class, Rank 12."

"Yeah, that's me."

"I believe it would be most efficient if we work together to stop her," Genos proposed to the man now identified as Asahi.

"I agree, but what's your name?"

"My name is Genos. I am—"

"Ha! Ha! Ha! Come here little ones!" Manic laughter interrupted Genos. Mosquito Girl slowly pulled herself out of a small crater, beginning to summon mosquitoes to her side.

Asahi and Genos exchanged a glance, nodding in mutual understanding. They both prepare to fight.
