Chapter 17: UA sports festival III
"Quieten down!" Ms. Midnight swung her whip... I wouldn't mind getting hit by tha- ahem continuing on
"To represent the students, Katsuki Bakugo from class 1A will deliver a speech to all UA students and the audience" Bakugo, walking forward towards the podium with a serious expression, grabbing the microphones from Ms. Midnight's hand
"(nah) I'd win, so don't even bother trying. especially you girly-face, ill kick your ass you bastar-" Bakugo stared at me with a furious expression
"Alright calm down, let's begin by choosing the first event of the day!" Midnight quickly diverted attention from Bakugo's outburst as he got carried back to the field. All of a sudden a big hologram of a spinning wheel appeared,
"Now, the first event will be the qualifier! Many would fail the first event, but remember, there's always next year. just kidding" Midnight cheekily stuck out her tongue, and after a while the wheel landed on "obstacle race", true to the cannon the obstacle race was simply that, an obstacle race.
"There's no need to explain what an obstacle race is right?" If there are people who don't know what 'obstacle + race' means, they shouldn't be allowed near a TV
"So ready? START!" with the loud sound of a buzzer, it was as if a dam's gates opened as 400 prepubescent teens stampeded towards a narrow gate toward the obstacle race, some students were more fortunate than others, having mobility-type quirks give you an edge to this race.
Me having a petite and fragile body decided to be a little cheeky, I spread [Beelzbub] in front of me and sucked them into my Sub-space, and then placed them behind me quickly giving me a head start, which Present Mic commentated
[Did you see that? he's moving the others out of the way, it's like he's just taking a stroll!]
By moving the so-called extras out of the way I managed to make my way to the actual race, but before I could start taking things seriously I felt a cold breeze flow past me, Shoto came with quick speed riding his ice like he was skating, soon he'll ask Honey where his super-suit went.
"Thanks for clearing the way" He turned towards me and said with a shameless expression, unfortunately, he didn't expect me to teleport a kid into his face...
[WOO! Look how he dealt with Todoroki! very unconventional but showy!]
I continued sprinting while having my ego inflated by Present Mic, but the troubles came sooner rather than later, turning my head I saw Bakugo flying straight toward me with a murderous glare.
Although I boast amazing combat abilities I still can't dodge an explosion point blank, as a wise man once said 'You may outsmart me maybe, but I have yet to see someone who can outsmart bullet'
getting knocked to the ground, it gave prime time for me to get surpassed by multiple students, Momo passed by using ice skates on Shoto's ice, and Iida just sprinted by he gave me a pitying look.
[Oh! we have a Bakugo in the lead!]
Trying to pick myself back up, I felt horrible... my face is aching, my sports uniform is torn, and I am not in the first place... I extended my finger forward like a gun and condensed [Beelzbub] to the extreme, I softly muttered "Void bullet" flicking my thumb, a black orb shot forward at extreme speeds, and I quickly vanished into my Sub-space
[Oh! It looks like Rimuru is doing a thing! although he is now behind the others, he won't give up that easily right?]
Currently, Bakugo is in the lead, with Shoto following close by, but what they didn't notice is a black orb quickly catching up with them, nevertheless, they reached the first obstacle, the robot army.
"Humph, like those robots could do anything, DIE!" Bakugo quickly dispatched multiple robots by blowing them up, and Shoto closely followed, freezing robots solid and creating a wall of frozen metal, which the others will have to walk around, while an ingenious plan he didn't account for the ball of pure destruction slamming into it.
[Shoto created a gigantic wall! how will the others pass by? Are they doomed? wait what is that?]
*BOOM*
A gigantic cloud of black smoke rose, acting like a vortex it swirled around the wall of frozen metal destroying it in seconds, but out of the cloud a small teen was propelled at an inhuman speed, almost breaking the sound barrier
"SHT SHT SHT THIS WAS A BAD IDEA." Feeling my skin stretch and the air slicing into my eyeballs was a terrible experience, fortunately, I managed to surpass Shoto and approach Bakugo. Unfortunately, I have no way to land, and I most certainly won't have a plot armor moment like Midoriya...
Bracing myself for a landing I let my feet touch the floor, and started sliding on the ground
"Khuk" Feeling as if my ankles and shins were on fire I continued to slide eventually using my momentum to start running at full speed although I could beat many athletes in speed, against mobility-type quirk users I pale in comparison.
[It looks like the contenders have reached the second obstacle! the pit of DOOOM!] Present Mic introduced the obstacle to the audience
[Well, unless you can fly like Bakugo or create bridges like Todoroki, you will have to go through the tightropes, if you lose your balance, too bad] Aizawa's unenthusiastic voice explained more in detail.
Stopping at the ledge I knew that I couldn't catch up to Bakugo if I kept running, I definitely wouldn't be able to keep my balance while running on a tightrope with my aching legs... Alright, I guess I'll have to do this... Sinking into my Subspace yet again I saw the now familiar void dimension, again feeling the connection to the fog I controlled it to move forward, unfortunately, I can't see where the fog is, so I have to hope I don't teleport straight into the pit.
"Alright... here goes nothing," Closing my eyes I exited the subspace. Slowly opening them and looking down, I saw solid ground. Ice to be exact, my feet were frozen, looking forward I saw Todoroki giving me a cheeky smile
"At the end of the day, you will just be my stepping stone" Ugh, that arrogant phrase, gives me goosebumps just hearing it... no, it's just cold in here... nevermind
Breaking free from the ice I ran at top speed trying to keep up with the two young "heroes" Even while running as fast as I can I am still behind by a long shot. And currently, I don't have any tricks up my sleeve to get further in the race. Feeling the breeze in my face while running I kept going, even as my legs started to hurt more and more... breeze...?
Quickly getting an idea I released some smoke, seeing as it blew in erratic directions because of the wind I quickly got an idea, looking forward I saw the third and final obstacle, the minefield.
[WOOHOO now our three contenders have arrived at the final obstacle! THE MINEFIELD! Be careful not to blow!] Present Mic's voice rang out in the stadium
[Phrasing.... anyway although the mines are nonlethal they still pack a punch, watch where you step, and be mindful of opportunistic opponents] Aizawa said with his usual bland tone.
Unfortunately for the obstacle designer, Bakugo and Todoroki can easily evade the mines by flying or freezing them
Reaching the minefield I quickly used a tactic straight out of Midoriya's book, as I dug up mines and stacked them on top of each other, I also took the liberty to store some mines in my subspace for later "use" releasing smoke onto the Mines I took 20 steps back and detonated the mines, causing a big plume of pink smoke to be released into all directions as well as black smoke being launched further towards the finish line.
and with the gigantic explosion causing both Todoroki and Bakugo to lose their footing (can you lose your footing while flying...?). Giving a mischievous smile I teleported to the furthest cloud of black smoke putting me directly in the lead.
[DID YOU SEE THAT?] Present Mic's surprised voice rang out a second after what happened
[I do have eyes.] Aizawa remarked
[Anyway, in first place we have Rimuru Tempest! winning by a landslide, or a land explosion hehe]
[That wasn't even a good joke...]
After making it into the center of the field, I promptly collapsed, sweat running down my forehead and my legs spaghettified...

"what do you think of the blue-haired one?"
"I'll definitely send a request for her to work for my agency"
"Did you see how ingenious her actions were?"
"yeah.."
"[INSERT BACKGROUND CHATTER]"

Multiple pro heroes were watching the replays of the obstacle race, with an unexpected dark horse winning the race it is reasonable that the heroes would be interested in them
However, a certain fire-headed man, this dark horse was the bane of his existence, Enji Todoroki was seated looking at the big screen with a furious expression.
"That girl..." Clenching his fists, Enji stood up and stated walking somewhere, the rest of the heroes couldn't ask where he was going due to the spine-chilling aura he was emitting.
"She dared to humiliate my son like that..."
(A/N: for those wondering, I probably won't stop referring to Rimuru as a she... I mean from first impressions Rimuru definitely looks like a girl, don't lie to yourself.... smash..... No homo)

Opening my eyes I saw the white ceiling, 'I'm in the infirmary aren't I..' letting a groan out, I still felt my legs aching...
"I'ts about time you woke up" I heard an old feminine voice to my side, of course, it was Recovery girl
"Alright you can rest a bit, but soon the next event will happen, make sure not to miss it" Chiyo continued
Looking at the ceiling I evaluated my performance during the race, honestly, I did what I could've, but at some point, I should get better control over [Beelzbub] I need to improve my mobility, and also improve my utility, I can't be a one-trick pony. without noticing I fell into deep thought for a long time...
"Hello.. earth to Rimuru..." Hearing a girly voice to my side I was surprised... looking to my right I saw Tokoyami, Jiro, Kirishima, and Yaoyorozu were visiting me... well Tokoyami was a given...
"What do you want?" I asked tiredly, I still felt exhausted from running the whole time
"Well you collapsed after finishing the race, so I- I mean we were worried about you" Jiro again said, this time stuttering... is her face a little red? what is she blushing for...
"I'm fine... just my legs hurt"
"Yeah we all saw that, quite the nasty fall" Tokoyami commented.
"Ahem- Rimuru although we would like for you to rest, the next event will be announced soon, as the vice class representative I need to inform you that you still have to compete" Hearing Momo's overly serious tone, I could still tell she is worried about me, what do they call it? right, "The power of friendship" bleurgh...
"Fine, Fine..." Sitting up straight I slowly tried standing up, my legs were a little shakey but I could make do... let's just hope that I won't need to carry anyone during the cavalry battle...
