Chapter 9: Chapter 9: The Blue Eyed Menace, Finally Caught

"It was you, the one who sent those ugly men?"

"...What? What are you even spouting!?"

The darkness of the room very slowly dissipated away as the clouds covering the glimmering moon outside started to flow away, revealing the panicked expression on the old man's face.

The veil of the moon, however, only made Luci's bright blue eyes to almost fill up the entire room with its… otherworldly glow.

"The bad men you sent to kill me," Luci stepped forward, causing the old man to quickly grab anything he could grab near him, "Out of all the adults I have visited that might want to kill me, you are the only one who was surprised I'm still alive."

"I'm… the only one?" The old man was slightly confused at first as he held the chair he was holding tight. But soon, his ears finally caught the noise that was clamoring ceaselessly outside the streets.

"Find him! Catch the blue-eyed menace!"

"He… he tied up my wife and accused me of trying to kill him!"

"He's gone mad, I tell you! Those village people are savages! He ate the meat I have been smoking for 3 days and told me it was punishment for trying to kill him!"

"Everyone, calm down! Let the city guards find him and stay in your homes!"

And as the old man heard and noticed the light on their torches getting brighter and their voices getting closer, the old man quickly abandoned the chair he was holding and rushed toward the window.

"He is—!!!"

Before he could finish his screams, however, he felt himself falling down as Luci kicked the back of his knee, preventing him from shouting further as Luci covered his mouth as soon as he was able to reach it.

The old man then felt himself being violently turned around, only to see Luci pointing at the corner of the room — and there, he saw a large cage that wasn't there before… with some sort of beast growling within it.

"You like putting animals in cages…" Luci's small and cute voice whispered into his ear, "...How about you join them for once?"

"Please, kind sirs! I… I think the blue-eyed menace is in my home! I have been hearing my husband scream but I can't open the door to his study!"

The city guards who had been scouring the streets of their city all followed a woman inside a small manor; her terrified breaths, piercing the guards' ears as she led them up the house.

And even from the stairs, they could hear the sound of someone's fear calling for help.

"Quick, break down that door!" Berns, who was leading the squad, hastened his steps as he ordered his men, "Gods be damned, little Lucifer! What have you done this time!?"

And as a loud crack snapped in the air as the guards kicked down the door of the house's study, the scream that previously seeped from the room instantly bombarded their ears.

The guards quickly raised their weapons and barged into the room, only to see a bundle of wrinkled fat trying to fit in between the bars of a cage.

"T…that's my husband! Help him!"

"That's…" Berns could really only squint his eyes as the old man stretched his hand helplessly toward them. Berns was trying his best not to stray his eyes away from the old man's naked body, but the most he could do was just slightly look away. As he did so, however, he noticed a beast chained inside the cage with the old man.

The small beast was hairless; its limbs long and malnourished for its body. Its face, however, was eerily similar to a human.

"That… isn't that the cheron we caught lingering in the sewers!? I thought we locked it away in the dungeon!?"

"Kree!"

"Good heathens!" Berns and the other city guards could not help but back away as the cheron tried to leap into its cage. Fortunately for the old man, the cheron was not really able to reach him due to the chains attached to its neck.

"W… What are you pigs doing!?" The old man said as his fat melted into the cracks of the cage, "S… Save me!"

Berns and the other guards woke up from their mild shock as they all rushed to help the old man out, but before they could even take 3 steps, they noticed a shadow sitting on top of the cage.

"Ah, Berns, Berns," Luci let out a sigh of disappointment as he crossed his legs, "Always late, always the disappointment."

"How did you even get inside the walls!?" Berns pointed his spear at Luci, "We have tripled the guards after what happened near your village!"

"Increase your guards all you want, it won't matter if I can jump and climb over the walls like the cart titan," Luci let out another sigh as he leaped down from the cage.

"Cart… titan?"

"You won't understand," Luci shrugged as he looked to no one in particular.

"The wall is several trees tall! Are you saying you can climb over it!?"

"That doesn't matter," Luci raised his palm, "This old man just confessed to sending those bad men to my village to attack me!"

"Attack you!?" The old man screamed; his saliva blowing all over the place, "You killed Angela!"

"Wait, you…" Berns blinked a couple of times as he lowered his spear, "...You sent mercenaries to kill a child because of a turtle?"

"Just a turtle!? She was my baby!" The old man screamed in rage and fear, "And yes! I confess to everything. Just…

…just get me out of here!"

***

"He… will be what?"

"Sent to the castle to be disciplined and learn some etiquette."

"But why!? I caught the bad man!"

A few hours after the chaos that Luci wreaked in the city, he was forcefully… escorted back to his hamlet, causing all the villagers to wake up from their dreams as they heard all the noises and saw all the torches outside.

None of them minded, however, as they once again gathered around old Meera and Emmett's hut to see what the commotion was all about.

"I caught the bad man!" Luci repeated his words as he hid behind Meera.

"...And you also terrorized more than 20 houses," Berns sighed.

"Berns, please…" Meera also pleaded, "...You know he doesn't belong there."

"He's—"

"He doesn't belong anywhere." And before Berns could talk, the chief knight of the city guards raised his hand, "We will be taking him to the Earl's castle to be trained, and that is final."

"When…?" Meera asked as she held Luci's hand tight."

"Now."

"Now!?" Meera quickly shielded Luci as the city guards waiting outside started entering their hut,

"You… you can't do that!"
