Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Healing Magic
After arguing with the system for another twenty minutes about his capabilities with the ladies, Keith started to walk towards the exit of the forest which was only a few minutes away.
It took him four hours to get from the exit of the forest to reach the city's entrance gates with the injured but unconscious girl in his arms.
He greeted the same guards at the entrance gate again before he entered the city and he then made his way to the food stall that he had visited earlier today to ask the old man about where the nearest healing station was.
"Good evening sir," said Keith with a slightly hurried tone in his voice as he greeted the old man who was seemingly starting to pack up for the day with his granddaughter, Charlotte's help.
"Oh, good evening young man," replied the old man with a slightly warm tone in his elderly voice as he turned his head to look at the young boy who had started to visit his stall frequently for the grilled chicken he cooked.
"Where is the nearest healing station ?!" asked Keith with a slightly hurried tone in his voice as he adorned a very concerned expression on his face from the worry he was feeling.
"Hmm ... What happened to her ?!" asked the old man with a very concerned tone in his elderly voice as a worried expression formed on his face as he left whatever it is that he was doing and then he hurried over to Keith's side.
"She got ambushed by a large horde of monsters and then she got hurt while trying to escape the precarious situation she found herself in," said Keith with a slightly hurried tone in his voice as he lied through his teeth because he did not want to divulge the truth about this unconscious girl to anyone.
"Okay. Lay her down on the ground gently and then I will try to heal all of her injuries. I know some healing magic," said the old man with a slightly concerned tone in his elderly voice as he looked at the unconscious young girl with worry visible in his eyes.
"Mmm," said Keith with a slightly calmed down tone in his voice as he nodded his head gently before he gently placed the unconscious girl's body onto the ground.
The old man suddenly approached the unconscious girl's body and then he started to examine the girl's injuries with an analytical gaze in his sharp eyes.
The old man then placed his hand onto the unconscious girl's injuries that were covering her body and then he started to channel mana through his fingers which caused the wounds on the unconscious girl's body to start healing at a rapid pace which was visible to the naked eye.
After healing the unconscious girl's injuries, the old man quickly shifted his gaze towards the young boy who had a very concerned expression on his face and was currently kneeling on the ground besides him and the unconscious girl.
He looked at him for a while with a small smile that was tugging on the edge of his mouth before he spoke with a slightly comforting tone in his elderly voice telling Keith that everything was going to be okay and that the unconscious girl was fine and that she will be fine soon enough.
"Come on, do not worry. She is going to be okay. Just give her time to rest and let the magic do its job and before you know it, she will be up and running," said the old man with a slightly comforting tone in his elderly voice as he gave a gentle pat on Keith's firm back.
"Mmm," said Keith with a gentle tone in his voice as he nodded lightly before his stomach growled loudly from the extreme hunger that he was currently feeling.
*Grrr~*
"..."
"Ha ha ha, I will quickly whip up some grilled chicken for you," said the old man as a small chuckle left his mouth which caused Keith to rub the back of his head with his hand.
The old man then quickly stood up and then he started to unpack some of the equipment and ingredients that he was going to need to prepare the grilled chicken.
After a few minutes, two pieces of grilled chicken was prepared and then the old man pack it up for Keith and then he handed it over to the said young boy.
"Thank you very much," said Keith as he took his pouch out of his robe to pay for the meal but before he could do that, the old man prevented him from doing so which caused Keith to look at him with a slightly confused expression on his handsome face.
"Do not worry about this. You are come here frequently and I can judge from your good character that you are a good kid, so the meal is on me," said the old man with a gentle tone in his elderly voice as he patted Keith on his shoulder.
He then took the two pieces of meat from the old man and then he started to devour one of the pieces of delicious meat in front of the old man who smiled at him as he was satisfied that someone appreciated his cooking and then he placed the other piece of delicious meat into his Item Box to save it for the unconscious girl for whenever she wakes up.
After finishing his meal, he greeted the old man and told him that he was going to visit his stall tomorrow morning for some grilled chicken again before he approached the unconscious girl's body again.
He quickly bent over the unconscious girl's body and then he placed his hands underneath her body before he stood up picking the unconscious girl's body off of the ground in the process.
Keith then walked back to his house with the unconscious girl's body in his arms while he also occasionally looked at the beautiful scenery as the sun was setting giving an orange glow to the city's buildings, the trees and the carriages that were moving about on the city's roads being pulled by horses.
He arrived at his house and entered the building before he made his way to his parents' bedroom and then he placed the unconscious girl's body onto the soft and comfortable bed.
He lives alone in his parents' house ever since his parents passed away during the war between the [Human] race and the [Demon] race so there was a lot of free space to utilize.
After placing the unconscious girl's body onto his parents' bed in their bedroom, Keith moved out of the bedroom and then he started to make his way towards his own bedroom.
Keith arrived at his bedroom door and then he entered the room before he made his way to the bathroom.
He entered the bathroom and took off his clothes that were dirty and smelled of sweat and then threw them into a basket that was placed on the ground.
Then he entered the shower and opened the faucet and warm water started to come out of the shower head.
Water poured over his body as he cleansed his body and removed all of the dirt and grime that he had accumulated during the day.
He stood there underneath the shower head with a calm expression on his face and a small and gentle smile also occupied his handsome face as he felt the warm water run down his body easing up all of his muscles that were tense.
His gentle smile continued to adorn his handsome features as he opened his eyes and then he looked over to the distance through his small window that was in his bathroom.
His thoughts were busy lingering on how he was going to proceed from here on out since his actions have certainly already started to affect the plot of the novel.
'But at least some events are happening as they should,' said Keith with a slightly calm expression on his face as he continued to look out into the distance through his small window.
[And, just to be sure. Are you sure that you are okay with that ?] - asked the system with a slightly curious tone in its robotic voice as it started to have a conversation with Keith to get more information about the plot from him.
'Yeah. I mean I do not want to involve my too much into this world's affairs. So long as me and my loved ones are safe, I am good,' said Keith with a slightly indifferent tone in his voice as he continued to stare into the distance through his small window which caused the system to be speechless from his indifferent answer.
[...]
'I am just getting stronger so that I can protect myself and my loved ones. The rest can go to hell,' said Keith with a slightly cold tone in his voice as his blood red eyes started to glow brightly.
'Come to think of it, the protagonist must have passed out from his fight with the [Ice Wolves]. And then tomorrow morning he is going to get his inheritance from [The God Of Time And Space], and then in a week the villain is going to get his inheritance from [The God Of Light And Darkness]. So things are going well so far,' said Keith with a slightly indifferent tone in his voice as he closed the faucet of the shower stopping the warm water from pouring out from the shower head.
'But that old man's healing magic seems interesting. I guess I will devour it when I visit his stall tomorrow,' thought Keith as he exited the shower and then he started to dry himself up.
After drying himself up, Keith exited the bathroom and put on a robe before he got into bed and then he fell asleep due to the accumulated tiredness.
