Chapter 93: Evolving: part 2(chapter 92)

previously in chapter 91

The lion's three heads were each distinct: the central head had piercing yellow eyes and emitted toxic gas from its mouth, the left head exhaled frigid air, and the right head could unleash torrents of water. The beast roared, its combined voices creating a chilling symphony of danger, and without hesitation, it charged at Salva.

Salva barely had time to react as the lion lunged, its central head releasing a cloud of toxic gas. He leaped backward, narrowly avoiding the poisonous fumes. The gas quickly spread, corroding the vegetation it touched and leaving a trail of withered plants and blackened soil. Salva's eyes watered from the acrid smell, and he knew he had to be cautious about breathing in the noxious substance, well, it was pointless, but he wanted.

The lion didn't give him a moment to recover. The left head, with its icy breath, exhaled a blast of frigid air. The ground where Salva stood was instantly coated in a thick layer of ice, making footing treacherous. Salva's hybrid form provided some resistance to the cold, but he could still feel the biting chill. He dug his claws into the ground to steady himself, then retaliated with a burst of his own fire breath, aiming for the left head.

The fire met the icy breath in midair, causing a violent explosion of steam that obscured both combatants' vision. The lion, undeterred, used its right head to spew a powerful jet of water, attempting to knock Salva off his feet. The water hit with the force of a battering ram, sending Salva skidding backward across the icy ground. He dug his claws in, anchoring himself, and used the momentum to propel himself into a leap.

With a roar, Salva leapt onto the lion's back, gripping its thick purple mane. The beast bucked wildly, trying to throw him off. The central head twisted around, snapping at him with deadly fangs, while the left and right heads continued their elemental assaults. Salva clung on, avoiding the snapping jaws by inches, his muscles straining against the lion's violent movements.

He knew he had to disable the heads one by one. Focusing on the central head first, Salva summoned all his strength and slammed his fist into its jaw, dislocating it. The lion roared in pain and fury, its toxic breath momentarily halted. Seizing the opportunity, Salva moved towards the left head, which was preparing another blast of icy breath. He grabbed it by the mane and twisted hard, aiming to break its neck. The lion thrashed even more violently, forcing Salva to release his grip to avoid being crushed.

The right head reared up, ready to unleash another torrent of water. Salva rolled to the side, dodging the deluge, and sprang back to his feet. He spat a stream of fire at the right head, the flames engulfing it and causing the lion to howl in agony. The fire didn't penetrate the thick scales immediately, but it weakened the head's defenses.

With a swift, powerful movement, Salva leapt onto the right head, using his claws to tear at its eyes and throat. The lion's roars echoed through the devastated landscape as it desperately tried to dislodge him. Salva's relentless assault finally paid off as he managed to crush the throat of the right head, silencing its water attacks for good.

The beast, now severely weakened, staggered back, but its central and left heads continued to fight with ferocious desperation. Salva knew he had to end it quickly. He darted towards the left head, dodging a weakened icy blast, and delivered a powerful uppercut that shattered its lower jaw. The head slumped, unable to continue its assault.

Now, only the central head remained. The lion, bleeding and battered, made one last desperate attempt to crush Salva with its toxic breath. Salva inhaled deeply, his chest expanding, and unleashed a massive torrent of fire directly into the lion's mouth. The fire met the toxic gas, causing a massive explosion that sent both combatants flying.

Salva landed hard, rolling to dissipate the impact. He rose to his feet, slightly dazed but still ready to fight. The lion, however, lay motionless, its heads charred and its body lifeless. The ground around them was scorched and cracked, the trees reduced to smoldering stumps, and the air filled with the acrid smell of burnt flesh and toxic fumes.

Salva, breathing heavily, looked down at his defeated foe. The once majestic and terrifying three-headed lion was now nothing more than a smoldering carcass. He felt a mixture of relief and exhaustion, knowing that this victory, like all the others, had come at a high cost.

He stood amidst the desolation, the battlefield a testament to the brutal clash that had just taken place. So, he did what he did best: he ate the three-headed lion. It took an even longer time, but after he devoured everything, he felt it. "It's time," he smiled to himself as the evolution began. It was painful, to say the least, as his body expanded due to his muscles, bones, and tendons growing at a ridiculous rate. But that was the extent of the changes that occurred. His scales grew darker and more rigid, his fangs and claws sharper, his senses heightened. Everything about him grew and improved. As a result of his evolution, he was forced into his true form, which was now 30 feet tall. He resembled more of an adult creature than a juvenile one.

"It's still addictive feeling your strength increase in an instant," he mused, getting addicted to the sense of growing stronger. He started to test out his newfound strength. He first reverted back to his human form before stomping on the ground, causing it not only to shake but to break, creating a crater so large it could become a pond. "And this is human form," he chuckled. He tried harder, striking the ground with his fist, which caused a literal small earthquake, splitting the ground apart like a canyon. He smiled, "I should be able to completely shatter a large building now," he guessed. Then he entered his full form and used all of his weight to stomp on the ground.

This created an even bigger crater, doing much more damage. He tested his speed, running in his true form. In just a matter of seconds, he was approaching 100 mph, without even trying hard. After he was done testing his newfound strength, he was ecstatic. "More, I need to fight more things," he declared as he made his way through Amenth. Every step of his was thunderous, shaking the ground and breaking anything beneath him.

[ a week later ]

Salva stood amidst the barren wasteland of Amenth, his massive 30-foot frame towering over the desolate purple desert. The rocky cliffs and canyons surrounded him, casting long shadows under the dark, thunder-stricken sky. The occasional dead tree dotted the landscape, their gnarled branches reaching out like skeletal hands. The air crackled with energy as thunder struck every few moments, illuminating the grim expanse in brief, blinding flashes.
