Chapter 0
A family of four is at the mall. The parents, a little girl, and a little boy who only looks a few years older. Everything was going great, the family of four was happy and having fun. A few moments later a group of robbers came into the store they were in and began shooting. As bullets went flying the family quickly attempted to hit the floor however a few bullets hit the mother and son of the family. When the robbers got close to them, the father tackled and fought with one of them. Then another gunshot was fired, hitting the father in the back causing him to lie unconscious along with his wife and son.
By the time the police and ambulances arrived, the robbers were nowhere to be seen. The parents and son were taken to the hospital. The little girl refuses to leave her father's side. Eventually, at the hospital, she is forced to separate from him. Now the little girl is waiting in the hospital lobby to get any news on her family. Soon a police officer, a friend, and a co-worker of her fathers show up.
"Hey, are you okay?" he asks the little girl. She nods. "Ok, so we are going to wait here until they tell us how they are doing. Ok, Jane?" He waits for her response. Jane nods again. After a few minutes, a doctor comes out, "I'm sorry to inform you, that all three of the family members did not make it." The officer turned and hugged Jane, she was crying harder than earlier.
Jane turned on the light of her hideout. Then grabs a stick that is leaning against the wall. She waves the stick around, this is where her training begins. Over time that little girl grows up and gets better and better. She trains with her bow, boomerang, guns, knives, and sticks. She works out and runs obstacles she has made herself. Jane slowly improves over the years. She gets stronger, faster, and smarter, but she doesn't let anyone know.
Now she's leaning on the front of her drug dealer's car. His name is Evan and he's also leaning on the front of his car, next to Jane. They both have a bottle of alcohol. They stare off into the night sky, looking at the stars. A few seconds later Evan pulls out a bottle of pills and hands it to her. "The usual," he said. "Thanks," she said as she put it in her jacket. "I wanted to ask you something. We've been like this for a while and I wanted to ask if we could make it official. You and me." He's worried about her answer. He knows how hard it is for her to let anyone in, even him. They have known each other for years and she still doesn't let him in completely, he's at arm's length.
"You know what? Yeah, let's make it official," he instantly smiled at her answer. He wanted to hug her but he knew she wouldn't let him. She smiles back at him. With that, they both kept drinking.
When Jane arrives at her foster family's house, there is a car waiting for her. It's her social worker's car, she'd recognize it anywhere. She knows what's about to happen. It's happened too many times before. As she gets closer she sees he's already waiting for her with her duffle bag. He nods confirming her suspicion. "I'm sorry," he said as he opened the car door for her. She gets in.
