Chapter 16: Segregation Might Not Be Bad After All

As for the infrastructure itself, the school has one main building, which was built like Nobel's manor in Europe in the 17th century.

Only this manor, they call the primary building, was over 10 stories tall and had a surface area similar to that of a football stadium. It was a humongous megastructure, that was comparable to a few malls combined, and was a piece of architecture that I've never seen back on Earth.

The exterior resembled that of a European manor, which was mostly made from red bricks and copper frames supporting it. The outside of the manor, had tall windows all over its exterior, and pointy roofs made from blue tiles and balconies hanging from the sides of the building.

The interior of the building looked very similar to that of a noble's mansion, with high ceilings, long and elaborate corridors, and beautiful paintings and carvings on the walls and ceiling.

The floor was made with smooth white granite, and the walls and ceiling were made from what seemed to be red oak, which made it look more like a rich man's mansion, than a school.

Even my classroom looked more like a bedroom that royalty would sleep in, rather than a place where students would study.

There were hundreds of rooms similar to my classroom, all over the building, and the main building also had several halls, an assembly area in the center of the building, and long arching flights of stairs, that connected the several floors.

Although the building's structure and design looked old and ancient, it possessed all the latest technology a school would need and more.

Like, how there were several lifts all over the buildings, and a ventilation system that provided air conditioning. There were also several other features, that even the best high school buildings don't have, but I don't really remember them.

Aside from the hundreds of classroom, there were also specialised rooms for practically teaching the students, faculty rooms, labs, and even club rooms in the building.

The main building was where all the students, no matter what their race, attended all their common classes, and was its main purpose.

Aside from the main building, there were also several other buildings on the campus grounds that were equally amazing as the one I'm in, which I'll explore later on. Like the cafeteria next to the main building, built around a massive tree that was over 200 metres tall, and surrounded in glass like a greenhouse.

Or the auditorium, which could house over 10000 people, and could even open up it's ceiling for certain performances.

Overall, the place the school was built on and it's infrastructure, were enough to prove that it was the number one high school in the world. Not to mention the academic-award-winning faculty that worked here, and the extensive programmes they have towards research, cultural, and extracurricular activities, with budgets that would even make a decent size company, quake in their seats.

Rather than simply calling it a high school, it's better to call it an institute with world-class facilities and resources, to help nurture the future generation of the continent.

As for how the students were distributed into classes, when there were several different races, and how the education plan works, is actually quite simple to understand and practical.

The first half of the day was when all the students, attended classes according to their stream without fail. It was mandatory for everyone, no matter what they wished to do or what race they were, and were referred to as common classes.

As for the second half of the day, the students were allowed to choose and join specialised classes, in which their interests lie, which was similar to how university worked.

After that, school would normally be over for the day in normal high schools.

But in Eden high, it was time for club activities, which were mandatory for all students that attended the school.

The students could join any club they wished to be in, whether it was research based, sports related, cultural based. Or even a club that was completely random, like for example, the cheese making club or the mushroom growing club.

The school put a lot of importance on club activities, because of how it could nurture the students interests and shape them for a better future, so they didn't deny any type of club request from the students and accepted them all, no matter how ridiculous they sounded.

Basically, any type of club can be made, no matter how absurd it was, and they would even get funds for it.

The only thing the school asked for in return, was results and accomplishments from the club, that could confirm that the club was doing something substantial.

If they didn't produce results, then the club would have to disband, and it would be closed down by the school. The members of the failed club, would also get low grades in their next evaluation, since club results were also taken into consideration in their grade sheets.

So, students normally wouldn't take any risk to start a club just because they thought it would be fun, and they would carefully consider where their interests lie and then join a club.

The way in which students were distributed in classes, was also very straightforward.

The students of each race would simply be put in the same homeroom class, as the other members of their race, or a similarly related race. This isn't due to any segregation that's going on in the school, and is simply a matter of convenience, as two different races in the same classroom, may cause some small problems.

Like for example, if a Lamia which was a half-human half-snake race, were to slide around a classroom, it would be inconvenient for the other students to move around due to their rather large tails, and other races might even step on their tails by accident.

Although this could all be avoided if everyone was careful, it was simply easier to separate the students based on race, since the students could understand one another better because they belong to the same race.

For the few races that are out there, that have a substantially lower population compared to other races, and don't have enough fellow race members to make up a class, they would be allowed to choose a classroom of their choice, as their homeroom.

The problem of the students not interacting with members of the different races, is also not present, as these same-race classrooms were only followed for the common classes.

After common classes, the students normally interacted with each other outside the class, be it during specialised classes, clubs, events, programmes, or simply in the cafeteria, where students of different races would interact and make friendly relations.

Overall, the way the school maintained itself, even though it accommodates several races, is very well balanced, and the person or people who built this entire system and structure, which allows everything to run smoothly, truly deserve praise.
