Chapter 18: Lucille Florence

Seeing that the girl was staring at me, waiting for me to reply, I decided to answer back.

I looked up at the girl with a slight smile on my face, that I always had when I talked to people, so that I could leave a better impression on them, and asked

"You are?"

The girl raised her eyebrow, as if she was surprised that I didn't know who she was and slowly said, while staring at me from above

"What do you mean 'you are'?... Shouldn't you already know who I am?"

"I asked that question because I don't recognise you. Am I supposed to know who you are?"

"Of course you should know who I am." The girl said indignantly.

"I introduced myself as the class monitor of our class, when you first transferred into this school, a few days ago. I even remember saying that you could count on me, if you needed any help, and you readily agreed at that time."

The girl looked perturbed as to why I was acting this way, even though apparently, we had already met before.

"Sorry. I'm pretty sure, that we haven't met before." I denied immediately.

"You must have talked to someone else that looked like me...Yeah, that seems to be a more likely situation, than you saying that we've met before."

I said, which made the girl look even more confused, as if she was wondering where I got the confidence to say that, when she just told me that we had talked before.

"Why are you so insistent that we haven't met or talked before? Didn't I just say that we met last Monday." The girl questioned.

She then said, with a slightly vexxed look on her face "Or is it that you think that I'm the crazy one in this situation, and am making up stories."

The girl seemed to be losing her patience when talking with me, and started to look at me in annoyance.

"Oh no. I wasn't thinking of it in such a way." I hurriedly denied and continued saying, while looking like I was pondering over something

"It's just that I find it really hard to believe when you say that I've already talked to you, as I normally never forget the interactions I have with pretty girls."

I then looked into her eyes, which perked up in surprise from the sudden compliment, and with a smile that was a bit longer than the one I normally always have, I said

"Especially a girl like you, who looks like she could make men faint with a glance, and capture their hearts with a single smile...There's no way I could forget someone as beautiful as you."

Hearing my words, the girl blanked out for a moment.

After realising what I said, her face flushed, and her eyes twinkled with embarrassment. She looked like she was trying hard to not lose her steady composure. But her cheeks, which were starting to flush, gave her away.

"That...That...I..."

She looked like she wanted to say something about my words. But was too embarrassed to respond.

After shaking her head in a cute manner to calm herself down, she looked down at me with her cheeks still flushed, and said as if was willing to come to a compromise

"You're saying that you don't know me. And I'm saying that I do. But what does it really matter?...Why don't we just reintroduce ourselves and start over as if we just met."

She looked at me, as if she would really kick me and run off, if I still insisted that I didn't know her.

"Of course. I would be happier than anyone, to be able to be acquainted with a gorgeous lady, such as yourself." I stood up up from my chair and said with a excited expression, as if I was really glad to make a new friend.

"There's no need to be so excited." The girl said in a flustered manner and put some distance between us, as when I stood up from my chair, I was only a few inches away from her.

She then cleared her throat in a very elegant manner, and held out her hand for a handshake; in a business like manner, and steadily introduced herself once again

"Nice to meet you. My name is Lucille Florence, and I'm the class monitor for this class. If you have any doubts about this school or need any assistance, please feel free to come to me, and I'll do my best to help you  out."

She then looked at me in a less serious manner, with a little worry in her eyes, and said

"This is exactly what I told you a few days ago when I introduced myself. I hope this time you don't forget, like you did before, as it would be embarrassing to introduce myself a third time."

"Of course!" I placed both my hands on her hand and shook it energetically, like we were old friends, and said

"Lucille Florence...A beautiful name, that belongs to an even more beautiful person. I'll engrave that name deep in my heart, so that I'll never forget it for the rest of my life."

She blushed once again and frantically pulled her hand out, out of embarrassment.

She then rubbed her hand that I just held, as if she were feeling the warmth that my hands left, and looked at me as if I were some kind of weird enigma that she had never seen before.

I didn't let her look bother, and introduced myself as well

"You seem to already know my name since you just called me using it. But for formality sake, I'll introduce myself again.

My name is Luca Carté, and I just transferred to your class from a small town outside Eden, just a few days ago. Although I seem to have forgotten you, even though we seemed to have already met; I hope you don't keep that in mind, in the upcoming future.

If you really do mind, then please do slap me on the face, no matter how many times you want, until you feel satisfied, so we can write off this small grudge of ours."

I closed my eyes and puffed out my chest, as if I were ready to get slapped.

"No! No! There really is no need for that. I've already forgotten that even happened. So you don't have to get slapped or anything!"

She waved her hands and quickly said, while she looked at our classmates around us; who were wondering what we were doing, looking a bit embarrassed.

"Is that so? Then I really have to thank you for being so generous and merciful."

I stopped closing my eyes and looked at her with a thankful look.

"No. I don't really deserve to be called that, since that's what anyone would do. I don't think that there's anyone out there who would want to slap someone, just because they forget their name.

...And honestly, I don't think there's anyone out there like you, who'd be happy to get slapped by someone, just to clear up a misunderstanding."

"You're clearly unlike anyone, I've ever met before."

She said as she looked at me, wondering where they picked up such a weird person, and at the same time smiled, as if she found me amusing.

"I get that quite a lot." I said and laughed it off.
